Yeah, that battle sequence in The Blackest Heart is the most unique I've ever read. It was so fun.
How in the world are you doing your first real video and you already have a dope thumbnail and intro graphics?
Also, you are so on point with some of these - especially your take on Robin Hobb. She really is a genius.
😆Thanks! A combination of Canva, iPhone's Photos App, and DALL-E LOL
Was thinking the same thing. I need to step up my game!!@@KindlesandKicks
A fantastic list! The Book That Wouldn't Burn was my favorite read of 2023, and I agree that it's genre bending. I hope you'll find many excellent books in 2024!
Thank you so much!
Yea, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell! This makes me so happy that it made your top 10 reads of the year! (The footnotes made it an extra special read for me. The rich stories and world she alludes to in the footnotes...I wanted more of those stories!)
Woohoo, Dune! I hope you will continue the series. Dune Messiah needs more love.
Yaaaaaaaas, Assassin's Fate! I totally agree, Robin Hobb is a literary genius. The grief and catharsis of the whole series ending, and--like you said--the joy and sadness and all the emotions in between that the series elicits.
Looks like there are three books/series that we can discuss, if you ever want to! 💜
My top reads of 2023 (no repeat authors, no re-reads):
1. Assassin's Fate by Robin Hobb
2. Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes
3. House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky
4. The Black Company by Glen Cook
5. Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology
6. Evil for Evil by K. J. Parker
7. Sacraments for the Unfit by Sarah Tolmie
8. The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
9. A Brightness Long Ago by Guy Gavriel Kay
I wanted to say I appreciated your kind comment on my most recent video so I wanted to repay the favor.
A nice collection of books on this list. I’m hoping to read Jonathan Strange this year.
Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy JSandMR. Be interested to hear your thoughts after you read it.
Welcome to booktube! Thanks for the quality vid!
New subscriber here welcome to booktube always glad to find a new lover of fantasy and science fiction and all things good reading hope to watch you on your long journey of making videos for the masses
Thank you so much!
Love the energy in your video 😊 I just finished Dark Matter and it is still tripping me out tbh 😂
This was such an excellent video! You convinced me to add quite a few of these books to my TBR. I loved your energy and book descriptions, I really look forward to the videos you'll release in the future 🥳🥳😁😁
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words!
Love the List. Love the Video. Love the Energy! And, def Love the Style! 👊🏼
I think I’m following in your footsteps with some of my reads as I’ll be reading Howling Dark at some point soon and I’m one book into Red Rising Saga.
Dark Matter is fun and your description of it as a “palate cleanser”is spot on!
Dune is for sure a book that grows on you, a great re-read. 👍
Speaking of re-reads, I should pick up Johnathan Strange & Mr Norrel again. It’s been a long time since I read it and I liked the feel of Piranesi, a LOT.
Oh, and I’ve got to to read Bobiverse.
Great stuff! 🙌
Thank you so much!
Welcome to booktube!! Great passion and an SG-1 ref? okie, ya' sold me. :p *subs* someone's probably already mentioned it if you weren't aware of it, but Strange and NOrrell was adapted into a limited series a few years back. perfect, no, but i enjoyed it quite a bit! I've only read the liveship trilogy of Hobbs but absolutely want to go back and devour the rest of her writing. your not about engagning battle scenes in your honorable catches my attention as my brain usually zones out during them.
Always great to encounter a fellow Gater. I have to check out the show. It would be interesting to see if the actors match what I imagined the characters looked like.
First time catching your channel so Welcome to Booktube fellow content creator! Howling Dark was my last read of 2023 and yeah definitely earned a spot in my top 2023 reads. I'll be continuing with the Red Rising this year with Iron Gold. I'll be back and all the best to your channel! -Cheers
Thank you so much. Appreciate the comment and encouragement. Hope you enjoy Red Rising as much as I did.
Dude, JSaMN is in my all-time top 10, love it! It's the way with words, you have to be on that for the journey not just the end. And Sun Eater, yes!! Then Dune and Dark Matter, great books. I need to catch up on Robin Hobb, I'm just on Tawney Man.
Great video, can't wait to see your channel grow!
Thank you so much! Appreciate the comment. Look forward to your thoughts on Hobb as you read more.
Saw the cap and clicked the Thumbs Up.
Heard the Snoop lyrical segue and grinned. Thanks for sharing - you are top-notch!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the love!
Subscribed and looking forward to more great videos!
Awesome list! Definitely an amazing way to start your BookTube journey!!! I am a Robin Hobb fan from long ago, but still need to read the last two sets. Many of the books that you mentioned are on my TBR, so maybe they will be in my top 10 for 2024! ;o)
So many of these I still need to read! Great list!
Thank you!
Great list! All of these are books I've either loved or are very high on my TBR - besides Dune, which I am currently rereading, hoping to like it more this time 🤣
I'm listening to Dune after having read it several times over the decades. I did not love the films.😐
Licanius is a tapestry of prose. I'm rereading 1 & 2 so I can finish the series.
Buhelman is my Hobbs 😉
Hope you had a better experience LOL
Hi, great first video! Can't wait to dive in to more, thanks.
Thank you so much!
Hey there! New to your channel. I found you through this video when I was looking for best of 2023 lists. Loved the energy you brought to this video. I read most genres, but I have a soft spot for fantasy and sci-fi, so I really appreciated this list. I enjoyed Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell. Not sure if you've read Clarke's book Piranesi, but that was my favorite read of 2022. It's quite different, a lot shorter, and very quiet, but has some magical realism/fantasy elements that were very interesting. Oooh I enjoyed hearing your review of The Book That Wouldn't Burn. That's been on my books to read list for a bit. Maybe I'll bump it up the list. :) Happy to see Dark Matter on the list as well. You can't go wrong with a Blake Crouch book. Subscribed and looking forward to checking out more of your videos soon!
Thank you so much! Piranesi is on my TBR for this year. I’ve hard nothing but great things about that book. I appreciate your comment. I watched your February Book of the Month video last week. Love your content. Will be watching more.
@@KindlesandKicks thank you so much! I appreciate the support as well.
Heck yeah. RotE was the same for me in 2022. Hobb's writing is just fantastic and 8 of my top 10 slots would probably have gone to that series. Great video!
Thank you so much for the comment. Glad you enjoy her writing as much as I do. Yes, if I did not restrict myself, it would’ve been all about Hobb 😂
I'm excited that I get to subscribe to a channel that's in its infancy! I CANNOT WAIT for more.
Here's my top 3 of 2023:
#3 - Words Of Radiance by Sanderson
#2 - The Road by Cormac McCarthy
#1 - The Sword Of Kaigen by M.L. Wang
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I have not read The Road or Sword of Kaigan yet, but Words of Radiance is one of my favorite books ever!
@KindlesandKicks I was fist pumping so much reading Words Of Radiance.
Loved this vid! I just read Dark Matter this past month and loved it too, totally agree on it being a great palate cleanser.
So happy to see Howling Dark on here-once we reach Vorgossos in that one it turned into one of the most interesting reads of my life. You’re in for such a treat with the next Sun Eater books.
I’m thrilled over here getting hyped for reads on my tbr like the books from Cahill, Clarke, Islington, and Durfee. Not to mention I still need to continue Red Rising past the first 3 books and am going to be digging into the final Elderlings trilogy soon!
What a crazily stacked reading year you had, and I’m so happy you’ve thrown your hat into the ring this year on Booktube!
Oh man, you have so much to look forward to!
Thank you Ben! Just know, you’re one of the booktubers who inspired me to start a channel.
@@KindlesandKicks oh wow that means a ton!
Im the same with Cahill. I grew up on Pern so i liked it very much but it was like an old pair of slippers 😛
First off GO SIXERS!!!(Auto Sub) Second, I'm digging those book shelves. Third let me know if you down to do a buddy read sometime. Keep the great videos coming Sir.
Thank you so much for the love man! I’d definitely by down for a buddy read. Not sure why I hadn’t subscribed to you already. I’m subscribed now. Really enjoy your content and like your style.
@@KindlesandKicks Thanks man. I'm always floating around the community. I'll try to keep an eye out for your TBR and maybe we can link up on a buddy read.
Enjoyed Dark Matter a lot, great list dude
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed Dark Matter as much as I did.
Lol my first introduction to grimdark was also mark lawrence(broken empire series) and I fell in love with the genre. Have u read the 11th cycle? It's like berserk(the manga/anime) if you like DARK and gritty AND crazy fantasy lol I think you'll enjoy it
Added it to my TBR. Heard a lot about it. Thank you!
Great video and great list! Although I can't believe you have Dark Matter above Dune and Dark Age!
Haha it’s funny you say that because after I posted the video I reconsidered where I placed Dark Age. It’s amazing!
@@KindlesandKicks Dark Age is easily my favourite in the series too
I finally picked up JSaMN on Libro 🙌🏼 i looooved the tv show.
You should try Eaters of the Dead. Seriously one of the coolest approaches to storytelling.
I'm going to check that out
My number one book last year was Reincarnation Blues. I read (listened) 200+ books and it was a great year 🙌🏼🤓 I have no life 😬😳😉
That's amazing!
BOBIVERSE 🙌🏼🤓❤️
Dark age should be higher 😊
Haha it may be after I re-read. So much happened.
Still haven started RR or EoS 🤦♀️
I think you'll enjoy them
