- Float fishing for trout is becoming a mainstay. Using a float to drift salmon eggs, corn, dough bait and plastic eggs allows anglers to see the bite instantly, reduces snags and keeps a bait flowing freely in the system. In this episode of Pautzke Outdoors we break down how to rig a float properly for weekend warriors and first time trout anglers.

Excellent detail in this presentation! Thank you for the high-quality content. - Tennessee Smoky
I use the exact same knot on all my rigs. Quick, easy, & effective. Can't wait to try this float & egg setup. I think I'll buy the gold label & pink shrimp first.
I love your videos keep up the great work
I first learned this rig fishing for steelhead in Northern California more years ago than I like to think. I also use this rig for drifting bead head flys on the river.
Thank you!
Your explanation of the whole thing helped me out!
Thank you for your teams helpful tips! I’m a beginner and now I know how to set up a line by my self.
A note on the float. If the stem is hollow you can set it up as a slip bobber. I do this for crappie fishing.
Great detail in this video. Thank you for taking the time to go into this detail of the float rig.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Thank you
What size and type of main line do you use? Thanks for the how to video!! Love all your trout videos!
What pound test is your main mono line? I love your videos by the way!
Nice video
Is this tje setup you all use when you fish the smoky mountain streams?
Can you use a weighted swivel and lose the one split shot?
How big of a split shot should you use
I use those water filled floats to toss flies with spinning gear
What would you say works best in winter? Eggs or paste?
They are both effective!
Where do you put the float? How low on the line?
depends how deep the water is, where the fish are lying etc
Honestly the floats aren't that good. The slot in it is much too wide and makes the float drift wrong and sink to far. I tried both with and without split shot. I switched back to trout magnet floats in the same trip and had no problems.
Hi Alex,
The size floats we have are designed for small streams. In those areas they work perfect, always with a small BB or smaller split shot.
Lol... its a carp pole rig. 😂
