- Its been a few years since I did a video on this first gen Dodge Cummins D250 shop truck. In this video I get you caught up to date, and then take care of a few problems.

I love your rig , those side doors with the narrow compartment, is good for jumper cables or tow strap, I would say.
I was about to say jumper cables when I saw your post
Jumpers yes. Also, some different gauge wire coiled up. Maybe some fuel, brake hose lengths. Ratchet straps, small ones, would seem to fit also. Maybe a blue tarp also.
Yeah, jumper cable are what I thought too.
I'd fill it with burritos, I bet you could stack 20 or 25 in there
ratchet straps and rope
I can't understand why your channel doesn't have more subscribers. Yours is one of the best out there. Thanks for the video.
Rick is 100% right. I don't get it either! He needs to go play in the MORR Offroad Games and his channel will blow up!
Yep , I bet he would do really good and have the cheapest rig there . Lol
Give it time. It doesn;'t happen overnight.
The screw tube algorithm only promotes certain content.
His channel has gone up about 3-4k subs int he past few weeks. So he's getting more noticable!.
I hope he paints the truck a dark green (similar to the other track truck) while keeping the bed that rustic color (ya know.. rusty lol).
That truck looks like something Mad Max's plumber would drive, and I mean that in the best possible way. There's something really beautiful about cobbling together a functional vehicle out of assorted salvaged parts :)
Mad Max's plumber. HA HA
Cant beat the cummins. Got me a 2001. Theyre sweet.
"it's got a cassette player, so that'll be an upgrade" Goddamn I love your channel Brother 😂
Without stepping on your 1st Amendment right, this is a family oriented CZcams video, hopefully no one was offended by my comment.
65mph at 1900 is a great result, well done my friend. And with brakes and all!! What a rig
I love your channel, your junk, and your personality!
Love the channel, I'd paint it white, then have the doors lettered up the name of the channel.
That old Dodge has got a lot of character, and is a good old workhorse of a truck ! Thanks for saving him and making the videos. American Iron All the way!
Question (unrelated to the video): Have you ever or will you ever do a video of the green and tan colored RV in the background that looks to be 4x4? I’d love to know more about that thing.
You definitely should paint the truck bed. Get all that rust off and paint it silver like the cab. It's a good design and deserves to be presented in a professional manner just as if it were factory. There is no sense in neglecting good solid work.
12:10 "Now make sure you put the right thing in the right hole." Legendary!
My wife says paint it yellow I say camouflage. I would keep tire chains in one flap door compartment & jumper cables in the other. Thanks for sharing what you do we love it!
I learned on this channel a few videos ago that the best color possible is the one you have lying around. As always James, a great video, thank you very much.
BTW, and all due respect: Your gorgeous rig, (I DO mean it!!..), should outlast most any similar truck in America🇺🇸, 'cuz you're the proud & loving owner who keeps it.. 😉
You just can't beat the MPG's and reliability of a Cummins engine James 🙂👍 Nice job with the repairs 🔧🔩
Yes, this is the truck every man needs!
Sat here and watched this one bookend to bookend. Love all the camera work you do in these and appreciate the teachings as well (brake bleeder setup, explaining the rear ABS plunger piston system). Great vid! Like the truck.
That upper compartment you don't used much - put a sign inside that reads, 'Keep Closed'. That will be the purpose of the compartment - to hold that sign.
In the narrow side compartment(s) you can hang jumper cables, extension cords, welding leads (if so equipped, you can modify the alternator to stick weld). The 3.54 gear is much better suited to the 5.9 Cummins torque range with stock tires than those models with the 4.10s on the street. You can change the drive/driven gears in the transmission to correct the speedometer, but mostly you need to know when you are driving 65 mph. You can set the needle to register 65 mph correctly just by moving the needle, that is all you should need.
IIRC, the 4.10's topped out in first gens at 74 mph against the governor.
That old Dodge is a solid rig.
And looks better than the newer RAMs.
Great video - even better sitting here with the Sunday morning coffee, dogs are fed and napping, house is quiet and someone else is doing the work. Thanks for taking us along!
Re colour - either leave it or as someone else suggested, wire wheel it back to natural colour and clear coat.
Same here👍✝️🙏
For the volume issue off the new radio, try to clean/lubricate the potentiometer with Caig Chemical "De-OxIT" or Nu-Trol.
And, by the way, do the same with all potentiometers in that radio...
Great video, as always! Thanks for showing us!
My 1989 wd250 4x4 I ordered 3.54 gears .it was the last year you could get posi in the front end with 3.54 .it was posi front and rear ends. Sold it with 210000 miles still had original oil pressure 30 at idle and 45 going down the road. Great truck to small for family. I have been driving ram trucks for 35 years this year. Had a 03 3500 junk it was red my 2021 is blue like the 89 it will be a good running truck . I have color carma .Denis from Santa Rosa CA
Howdy neighbor!
My 2 cents are paint the bed semi gloss black. Keep up the good work! 👍
Black is the right color. Primer black is the right gloss. Don't want it looking to fancy !
I had a 93 2500 2wd CTD that I bought new. It was an awesome rig. The only down side was that unless the truck was working hard, it didn't make much heat. I nearly froze to death on the freeway in sub zero temps even wearing a snow suit. A "Winter Front" for the grill solved that problem.
You made my Saturday night - thanks for another great vid!
For the sides, I would wire brush the bare metal and clear coat them. I'm not a big fan of the rusty metal "patina" although I know it is pretty popular. I think shiny metal protected by clear paint would look good.
I certainly have a lot of fun watching your videos. Your presentation style is great.
Looks great. If you'd done the axle swap before the speedo, you coulda gotten a different gear set for that to adapt the speedo to the rear end ratio.
I say paint the bed the same brown color as the doors on the mutt truck. That brown looks great; just the right shade of rust.
Paint it Omaha Orange.
Then accent the hood with the same color. I’m sure Dodge had some sort of race package that had a catchy look. Thanks for the fun.
You should paint the bed matte black, it'll match your shirts and hide any imperfections :) plus, when the rust starts coming back it'll look awesome
Weld tabs or pegs in those boxes to hang box end wrenches. Make the pegs long enough so when you close the door, the pegs all but touch the inside of the door. That way, as long as the door is closed the wrenches can’t go anywhere as you drive
I just found this channel and it’s now one of my best now
Great video! Love the way you recycle parts from your stash! Look forward to the next one on this truck
Great video and endless humor indeed! Blessings and respect!
The truck will look great if you paint it a matching silver. Thanks for the interesting video.
I think you should paint it! Blue and silver!
Love your channel man!
Thanks for all this entertainment!
I enjoy watching this channel, your approach to life is honest and practical. I look forward to your next post.
Central California watching
The inner timing cover bolts can back out and destroy things as well on a 5.9 cummins
Well, so it seems your new / old truck /Apocalyptic rig is pretty much ready. Regarding the rear flanks I'd suggest a couple things:
>1stly, sandblast + prime.
2ndly, paint both sides in whatever colour YOU like ..
😂😂😂
The rusted plate steel wouldn’t bother me, except that eventually when you lean against it while accessing the bed, you’ll end up wearing rust on your clothes. If the other side wasn’t in a mismatching primer, I’d suggest some sort of clear coat to seal it, rat-rod style.
Gonna be a good rig to haul your hoards to the new property! Definitely paint the box to match the cab, make it look little more respectable, shouldn't take that much work. Probably have silver tractor paint. Added bonus... much better fuel economy! Good job as always, thanks for sharing!
Function over Form. Sure paint would look good...but meh.. him and nice things dont mix.. like myself and Carpeted floors, itll get ruined within hours lol
right but not everything needs to look like it belongs in a 3rd world country@@fetus2280
Great video. I, like others, agree about the side compartment being used for your ratchet strap collection. I believe that in there, they would probably become even more fun to pull out the whole giant tangled Medusa's head of ratchet straps and ratchets that are inextricably wound into a filthy, rusty nightmare. I await that video with bated breath!
Oh! And by the way!
Whatever you do, don't paint it. At least not in any good looking way. Maybe if you found some free paint down at the recycle center, but otherwise, paint is just added weight that only slows you down.
Keepin it simple over here.
on the other hand if that brake unit will seize and your rear wheels will lock up first with little braking pressure, its a real pain if that happens as you cannot get replacements anywhere for 20+ year old vans or ute's(or as yankys call them, pick ups or trucks)
Paint it red. So next Christmas you can pull the covered wagon with it, just in case.
"Well THAT doesn't look half bad.." 😂😂😂
I love the optimism attitude
Lots to learn from this Guy..and getting entertained same time. Can not get better that that😎
Side doors with the narrow compartment looks good for the tire preasure check thingy you made a couple of videos ago!
James, you really need to get that COE halftrack thing going! That's gonna be so badass when it's done.
Hey the radio played born on the bayou!!!! As soon as you turned it on!!! Did anybody else catch that, I think that’s a good omen👍👍
Love the truck nice job on the repairs i think a nice sky blue would look great!
Agree. Sky or robin egg blue would look great with the silver.
I enjoy watching your shottie work,
have'n a beer while watching absolutely luv this
Good working rig , cab silver , work bed white and decals , thanks for sharing 👍💨💨
Was driving across texas buying a rusty jeeps today thinking about if a new video would be up. Heck yeah!
I always save parts for things I have.
I definitely know it’s worth doing this to save in the future.
Maybe leave a note tag on the parts to save workin out the issues.👍👏
Great action I real like your diesel truck in rust we trust so no paint on the box I like the diamond plate with nature patina I enjoy your videos Thank you for showing .
Love it. I'm saving up for a first gen.
I'd paint the box black.
It'd look good, but in his climate you could only touch it 3 or 4 months out of the year!
I am glad to see someone else do the drill press thing the same thing I have been known to do, including how to enlarge the holes
Paint it black, paint it black....Thanks for GREAT video...
That rig looks really nice. I'd say go silver with the paint on both sides. As for those side doors. Jumper cables, extra tow straps. Maybe some spare parts like belts, wires, and your standard bottle sizes of fluids for whenever you might find you need a topup off on the road.
Great work, enjoy watching. Color of the beds black is what I'm thinking
EXCELLENT video!! I really enjoy your channel's content. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Every episode: And this happens BRAAAAP!
'Cassette is an upgrade'. I started driving when cassettes were just coming out. My first big stereo upgrade was a Kraco 8 track/cassette player. Yes, I kept a pencil handy to fix the cassettes.
I like your practical approach to’challenges’ 👍
That cummins sounds lovely...!!!
I agree with Herbert Bell, I feel silver would be a good colour that matches the cab... A very good video I enjoyed this one immensely.
To mount a camera under that truck and drive it around is an interesting way to check your own work! I’ll keep that in mind✌
I love that truck!! If I ever have any money at all (not likely) I'm buying a Dodge with the OG Cummins.
Watching this on tv, im going to solve this problem by ignoring it, 😂 subbed🤣
I can watch this channel 4 ever
Nice work as always! I'm have an '05 Dodge 5.9 (but with the not so good automatic trans, now on #4 at 340 K miles) all stock everything, runs at 1700 RPM=63-64 MPH, 2000 RPM=70 MPH. Looking forward to more vids of work out at the Low Buck Mine.
Dandy rig! Gotta love the simplicity of the older models.
hi , looks like a good truck . ah , more toys , more fun , ain't it great . thanks for sharing .
The man has a fine shop with lift, yet he works in the dirt like a shade tree mechanic.
Awesome. More motivation for me to go out and find another Dodge pickup...
Love the channel, keep up the great work!! 👍
Some of the best entertainment and contents on UTube awesome stuff
Low Buck
You’re the best. Thank you
hi, you make cool and interesting videos
keep it up!
Great work and not giving up!
Your videos are so much fun to watch.
Maybe paint it black? Love your show! I'm always excited to see the next one pop up.
Ohn that killer pin, the little bolt right next to it, is where your supposed to bolt and S shapped piece of flat metal touching the end of the pin to hold it in right on that little screw that right next to about a 10 mm, your shop peening might work, , don’t even over over rev it, at high rpm’s, is when it strarts pushing out, ok, that going to be a kool truck ,in the end, thanks BigAl California.
great work truck, I think if you went all silver paint it would be cool. Glad you have new brakes.
I really do like your kind of humor!
Thanks for sharing this great vehicle! Please keep them coming!
Hard to beat white for longevity or light metallic blue for looks, my two cents worth. I like your methods and smarts. Keep on a keeping on!
Would be cooler in the sun
Can't beat a white truck if you don't like the rust.
Great Video. Love the truck. You will find something to put in those rear compartments. I have faith in you .😂😂😂😂
Nice, looking fwd to your next installment.
One sweet ride, sounds great.
Paint it all one colour please. Love those old Dodges.
12:51 If that hub has a rear seal to keep the oil out, grease them. If there is no rear seal to let the oil in, don't grease them.
Just awesome. If you don’t like the grey then go matt black, nobody messes with a matt black truck.
Bout to move south I swear😂 there’s about 2 foot of snow on the ground and It’s negative 2 out rn and It’s drifting over really bad 😂 and here you are working on your projects in a flannel
Hello from Nova Scotia Canada, would the Dodge truck you're working on 1993? One tuff old truck keep the videos coming love your show
Old cookware wins every time!😂
Cool truck. Great video!
Nice rig! Great work truck
Love your Videos!.
Simultaneously educational and hilarious!
Looks good great job..
