I'm sure in her mind she was making a huge statement but I'm sure not one of those city council members gave a shit about her resigning.
They were secretly thrilled she quit.
The statement is this: "Women are too emotional to be cops. I quit".
Did you watch the video? The city is extremely short staffed and hiring a new officer, especially for small departments, is very costly with background checks on all of the applicants, HR time, etc. Clearly you have no experience in government/corporate operations/governance.

The point of my comment is council members don't care about police officers because its not their problem. They set the budget for the police department and it's up to the police department to hire or not hire. So it sounds like to me you have no clue as to how different governmental agencies really work and its relationship to those charged with budgets.

The only time we get time off or counseling is if we are shot or shoot someone! Just being in a chase and getting shot at is just another day at work. If every officer got time off after an accident where nobody was shot or killed there would be no one else left to work! So when a shooting accures, it's big step up from just training for it and dealing with the aftermath that follows. Being a cop these days takes a heavy toll on your soul. You are expected to issue lots of traffic tickets to raise money for the municipality, even if they are illegal arrests, and you are expected to lie for your fellow officers when they make false arrests, assault innocent people, and even murder them.

I don't blame her for wanting to quit after something like that, but the way she chose to do it was incredibly immature. The last thing her community needs is someone with low emotional intelligence enforcing the law.
I commend her for quitting. If it isn't for you don't stay. That department has a leadership problem and the city council does not have any idea what a police department needs. This is emblematic of all small police departments throughout the nation. They want a police department but don't want to pay or want to tell cops how to do their jobs.
