    I love Costco. I don’t find I overspend and I go right to the products on my shopping list with a quick browse everywhere else. You have to know your market prices. I generally find their gas cheaper too. One tip I haven’t seen mentioned here - you don’t need a membership to fill a prescription, the filling fee is less and the base cost of the med is generally cheaper too. Just tell them at the door you are going to pharmacy. Saved about $10 on a passport photo recently too.

      Gail Johnston, I know-right. I often wonder how so many people manage to forget where they parked their cars. It seems that they mindlessly park, get out and walk away without even looking at their surroundings- they just focus on the front door of whatever store or house they’re walking towards. Then when they walk out of the building- they stop right outside the door to stare and scan the area in hopes that they can see their cars. It’s amazing how many people are using the Panic button on their remotes to locate their cars and they’re so stupid that they don’t turn off the annoying thing until they’re standing right behind it.

Only problem I have with costco....I often fall in love with a product only to never find it there again. Thanks for the "*" and "7" info. I'll stay away from trying new if I know it will not be there next time.
      Sure this is an adf or Costco but they're a good company, people are usually friendly and paid better than the poverty leve. I love the samples, the 25¢ cold water bottles at snack bar as well and the blended berry drink! Hint for parents....go to the book area right off and let your child enjoy a book while sittling in the cart. I got done shopping so much faster by doing that. Now waiting for grandkids since my kids are grown. 😁

    I’ve been recently going to Costco. And for me the most annoying thing is the no aisle signs. Costco is so crowded and honestly what I want to do is grab my stuff and go. I feel like the “hunt” is just so you grab stuff you didn’t go for. But for me I don’t buy things I didnt go for. So usually if I can’t find what I want I end up leaving and going to Walmart or something. I wish there were workers who’s sole position is to stand at sections of the store and direct people to stuff. Because not being able to find what I need is just frustrating.

    Actually, the moving around of stuff in Costco is ALSO and primarily about getting the shopper to walk around the store more. If the products were in the same places or in the same ile, when people need something, they would just go to that location, get what they need and leave just like they do in many super markets. BUT, by moving stuff around, it means the shopper will be going around a bit more, which marketing shows, often means they will also buy more. (ooooh, that giant bag of M&M's is looking good. I don't recall seeing that before).

    I work at a grocery store and study psychology and the real reason why things are all mixed together/unlabeled/moved often is because it forces people to walk through the aisles and encourages you that pick up more things than are on your shopping list, not because they want you to have fun 😉

    Loved your video, I just wanted to clear something that you said about the "sample people", which are actually, "sales advisors", and play a very important role inside the warehouse. They are always willing to help find the product for you even if they don't know where the product is. They are "Costco ambassadors", and I wish members would give them a little more credit and treat them with a little more dignity. Good job CDS!

    The reason there are no aisle signs lies in Psychology. The reason wholesale clubs are profitable is not only because they have membership fees, but also for reasons like this. By not putting up signs, you tend to roam around more looking for stuff, which makes you look at more products than you want to, which tend to make you buy more stuff than you need.

  • @jayyy2359
    @jayyy2359 Před 6 lety +52

    People complaining about the lack of signage. Seriously if you go to Costco more than once a year you should be able to figure it out. Every Costco is fundamentally set up the same and things don't actually move all that much. You have hard lines which is for products like electronics, dishes and hardware. Then there's foods where obviously you find food. And there's center where they have the clothing area, a seasonal display and anything they're trying to promote. So if something isn't in the place it usually is..first check the end cap, second check seasonal. Flour is in the baking aisle along with similar baking/cooking products. It's never going to be merched with the bottled water so why you looking over there?? Shop smart people.

    • @sams4dad95
      @sams4dad95 Před 5 lety +1

      River and the Fez If it were that easy, why is it that there have been times when I asked an employee of Costco (who I assume goes to the store more often than once a year) where an item is, they had to ask another employee or 2 where to find the item.
      And not everything is shelved logically. Try looking for pistachios. Are they located where nuts are located or snacks? Answer: snacks. Walnuts, pecans and almonds are located with nuts-where other grocery items are and in a totally different area of the store than where snacks are stocked.
      And there are 3 stores that I shop at (1 close to home, 1 close to work, and 1 close to a friend) and they all stock bread in different places.
      If I can park my car in a huge parking lot and use a GPS app on my smart phone to locate my car, why can't stores like Costco create something similar, using barcodes- so shoppers can easily locate where a particular item is stocked?

      Lol believe me, Costco always moves their stuff around. Especially nowadays. In the past, this wasn't the case and I could find items in a heartbeat. Now? I need to make a couple laps to get everything I need. ALL of the Costcos I go to change their item placements on a weekly-monthly basis and the changes are not logical either. I frequent over 5 different locations and my family and I have been members for over 25 years so I speak from past and present experience. I'm not complaining but, like a previous responder said, it would be nice if the employees knew where things were. If a company moves things so often that even their employees don't know how to find the products, that's stupid. Time is money. If I have to run around 5 times looking for a product that is lost in a warehouse, I'd rather spend $5 more at another store to save time and my sanity. And the great thing? I usually don't have to spend that much more. I just make a run to Smart & Final which is slowly becoming a great competitor. So watch out Costco.

    • @jayyy2359
      @jayyy2359 Před 5 lety +1

      @@KC-ym6uk all I'm saying is you're not going to find swimsuits with the toilet paper in any Costco. Food is literally on one side of the warehouse and hard goods on the other. Seasonal, clothing and organics in the middle. Shop smart. Food items will move up or down a row or two depending on it's need for space. Maybe even double merched. If items are on coupon then they'll be on the end cap. Costco has so much product turnover that things simply go where they fit that day.

    They carry a product that I try and like, and then I go back to buy more, only to find out that they don't carry it anymore. This has happened many, many times. It has become very annoying. A good example, their store brand canned Cola which was one third the price of Coke.
    Now the love. They have without a doubt, THE best return policy of any brick-and-mortar store. In all the years I've been a member, they have never refused to give me my money back on any purchase, even if it was made seven or eight years previously. The only exception to this is now cameras, TVs, and computers, which only have a 90 day return period. But they make up for that by giving you an extended warranty on the item.

    14%? Most things I find are relatively priced comparably to wal mart on a per unit basis. Quality is where they seem to excel. Some things are a little cheaper but you do have to compare.

    • @hatchjustin
      @hatchjustin Před 6 lety

      Yup. 14% is the biggest margin without the corporate offices making an exception (which happens sometimes)
      Of course you can get off brands at other store for a comparable price, but thats apples and oranges.

    • @CountrySingerWannabe
      @CountrySingerWannabe Před 6 lety

      I am not comparing the off brands that others carry in my analysis. Apples to Apples if my comparison. Even if 14% is their biggest margin; it must the biggest margin at Walmart or Winco foods as well. That aside I do find plenty of value in my secondary ways by shopping at Costco.

    Here's a better secret, I've been a Costco shopper since 1999 when they were still price club.
    All the product that you like to buy, or seasonal item. Make sure you pay attention to all the price, take a picture if you have to. When they have their coupon or discount sell (yellow label). Pull out your photo and check. 90% of the time, I notice that they markup the price and put a yellow label on it to drop it back to the original price.
    Example, there was this folding tool table for wood working. The non-sale price was $59.99. I was like, wow that's pretty ok price, but decided not to buy and wait for it to go on sale. Two weeks later, I happen to walk by there and saw the sale, wow?
    I looked at it and on my face....OMG....WTF??? On the label $69.99, $10 off = $59.99, what? Really?
    3 days ago, I went back and I was like...LMFAO!!! There was no sale or coupon at all and the price on the label was $39.99!!!!
    Took a picture of it with the price, and bought it...

    Here's what people do not realize about cosco as well at Sam's club. If you have to pay 60$ a year to shop there then u aren't saving any money UNLESS you shop there alot. For example if u go to Costco once every 3 months for instance, you have to save at least 20$ to make it worth it. If you go and only save 50¢ per item u purchase, unless u purchase alot of items often you aren't really saving any money. Plus most people have to drive quite a distance to get there so that means u have to save even more to recoup what the cost of membership. What the company relies on is the people who pay that 60$ and barely ever shop there. That's how they make their money. That's like buying a gym membership and never going. That's how the gym makes their money and can afford to offer the memberships cheaper. I purchased a membership to Sam's a few times and only shopped there once or twice during that year and it costs me more money to purchase the membership then it would have to just shop at my neighborhood shop n save. So there u have it. Also they charge more for business accounts and they usually pay a substantial amount more then the average Joe to join. So they have to spend way more money there to get back what they paid for the membership.

    You can't beat $2.99 for a 40 pack of bottled water. I go biweekly for 4 packs of them alone (along with other stuff). Yes that's 160. They go fast here. A 10 pound bag of frozen wings for $20.99, nice. Add your favorite sauce when finished cooking. I find great stuff now and then too. Rule of thumb, if it's a great deal. Especially in clothing, take advantage and buy it then. Odds are it won't be there next time and you'll kick yourself in the butt. I've tried several garbage bags, even the best brand name ones. Nothing compares to the Kirkland brand ones, only one that actually stays in place. I'm not getting paid to say this. I just love Costco.

    The only thing I didn’t know was the *!
    In Australia the hotdog is for $2 problem is, it’s all pork 😢😓
    The pizza 🍕 is for $15
    The pie 🥧 for 4$
    The sandwiches for $5
    & everything else is much more expensive than America! I compared the prices ! But still it’s better than the other stores !
    I always buy things much more than I intended to buy in the 1st place 😭
    But I love the place & encouraged everyone I knew to get a membership & they did & where happy about it 😊
    The bad thing though, in Australia there is no member points unlike in America where you could pay your membership from your points & this thing really upsets me!!

      Mary Proveaux I worked for the demo company at Costco for 2 years. Most Sale's Associates know where product is because we are moved around the store every day. If you want to know where something is, ask them. Also we aren't allowed to say no to more than one sample per person but seriously, people who come up more than once and don't buy the product are our least favorite people. Also you don't need a membership to buy alcohol there. And please be nice to the sample staff, we pitch you all sales in hopes to make sales. We depend on those sales to keep our jobs!!!! And don't stand in front of their carts giving them the evil eye because a sample isn't ready, there are millions of members plus their family's coming in every day, we are doing the best we can!

    Love Costco! Go there about twice a week Every visit takes me about three hours. Great stress reliever and gets the bones moving. Member since before it was named, Costco. Started in Hawaii then Nevada. Meats are the best, gasoline is the best price and high quality,. Since they sell so much of it, is always "fresh". I drive from Las Vegas to Pelican Lake (Part of Detroit Lakes), Minnesota every year in the summer and try to make (if Possible) the majority of my gas purchases at Costco. Fargo, ND is the last refuel in the way in and the first in the way back... Motto; "If Costco does not have it... I don't need it"
