- Here is a video on how I retrofitted a set of Power / Articulating (Tri-Mode) Running Boards on the my 2016 Silverado LT - 1500 Truck. These came off of a 2017 Sierra Denali. Many have said that BCM Programming was required. I did NOT need any BCM Programming to get them to operate. Enjoy the video on how I did it.

NOTE: The drawing in the video shows 16AWG and 12AWG. This is INCORRECT. The correct wiring should be 16AWG and 22AWG. Layout has been updated and can be downloaded here. www.dropbox.com/s/8kr7qdwq19y7r0q/Running%20Board%20Layout.pdf?dl=0
Phil Gamboa but I need all the pages to see the numbers so I can order the plogs you think you can send to me thanks
Phil Gamboa would these fit on a 2015 Denali?
Jacob Sullivan - My presumption is if you’re a Crew cab, yes.
Phil Gamboa do you only do personal work? I just bought same running boards need this done on my 2016 GMC Sierra allterrain
@@noebarbosa2373 di you find the wire Harness
i love when people tell you something cant be done and then you go right ahead and prove them wrong. you do amazing work man.
That's what usually drives me! :) and Thank You!
Been a minute since I’ve watched this... And I’m still impressed!!! If I ever find me some articulating boards, I’m making that drive up to Dallas and letting you do your thing. I’m forever grateful with all your wiring/products! My DL3 mirrors were great as was the wiring I needed for my jump seat - center console upgrade! You’re the best thing about GM-Trucks forum.
Wow! I always read on the forums this could not be done, but you did it! Excellent investigating skills, I also liked how this did not need programming to function. Thanks for posting this how-to!
Ryan Stachniak - Thanks! One of the driving reasons I got them is because they said “It couldn’t de done” :).
Just wanted to post this a week ago i found and purchased a set of this running boards. I got a hold of Phil and set up an appointment for this morning. I live in Tomball near Houston drove to Dallas and met Phil. Great and awesome guy he let me stay and watch him preform his work. Stayed and watched the whole installation of this steps on my 2018 Silverado. Great and clean work very satisfied with the work. Thanks again Phil hope on doing my door handles with your new upgrade.
How much for the installation?
Great video, love the fact that the wiring is very clean. Steps look great!
Ok, electrical engineer or technicians make this work look so simple. Your upgrades look very clean like factory. Excellent work and video
Absolutely beautiful video Mr. Gamboa. I admire your work.
Thanks! I completed 3 local installs this week and still amazed when it "just works" :)
Your experience as a professional automotive enthusiast has went up to 100%.impressive!!!!subscribed!
Bimer catracho - Thanks! I just finished installed the new IP switch as well and can mow disable the running boards, extract, and retract from inside truck :)
Cool, looking forward to your video installation of the alpine x110-slv in your truck. Hope you look into it!! I installed one in my 2015 Silverado, with a Bose module, and a bypass relay. I put 2 sundown audio zv5 12' under the back seat with a sundown audio scv-4000d amp. I made a custom box for the subs. by the way, my next modification will be the door sills you installed in your truck! On behave of fellow bowtie owners,
Thanks.
Phil Gamboa Hi Phil, awesome video! I'm getting ready to install escalade esv running boards on a 2016 suburban and was curious to see if you knew which wire I have to run to the Oem switch? (bought the switch off of ebay)
Thanks again!
Phil, Wow Man! Great job...You definitely have a skill set for upgrading, Looks great, With all the additions and upgrades you have completed, Definitely a one off! It's no longer a Texas edition, It a PGAMBOA edition! Keep up the great work my friend!
Phil. i just wanted to thank you for sharing this video! I appreciate it & was able to install this on my 2014 Chevy Silverado. You are the MAN!!
Thanks man! Glad it was helpful!
Was it plug-and-play for your MY14, too? I have a MY14 Sierra and would love these, but unsure if there was anything that changed harness wise after the MCE refresh...
@@etmccaus - It is still PnP for 14/15 trucks. Only difference is - Fuse Block won't have the OEM 30amp Fuse for it. So swapping the fuse block to make the power wire landing OEM. Also, the GMLAN and Running Board Disable wires in the X138 connector are not present in the mate plug. This means, that those circuits need to be delivered inside the truck. The disable circuit lands on the IP Switch. The GMLAN lands in the passenger Kick Panel junction.
Do they look perfectly straight on your 2014 like on this 2016? I'm going through this install right now and mine seem slanted down on the outside and higher on the inside
Dude! You saved my life! I've been down for this for a while
Love your videos man. There is so much info in them. I'm wanting to do a lot of this same stuff to my 2017 Silverado Midnight edition crew cab LTZ
you do outstanding work Phil
Celso Armijos - thank you sir!
I love watching your videos, I think it’s awesome how in-depth you go into what you are doing. You make it very easy to follow along and understand. I’m looking to purchase a Silverado in the near future, I’d love to get a 16/ 17 model. So watching you do all these cool upgrades to your truck makes me want to get a Silverado even sooner. Please keep cool content like this coming. Great work
Victorious 69 - Thanks!
Phil Gamboa great video. I have A 2016 LTZ. If I got some of these running boards would it be plug and play? I have noticed there in a plug under the left side of my truck just hanging there not plugged into anything. I always assumed it was for powder running boards.
@@dgatekeeper - You have pics of the plugs you are referring to? I have yet to see a truck with the plugs present unless the truck came with then and the owner took them off.
If so, email them to me - sales@HarnessDR.com
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!!
Scott Walters - My pleasure!
You sir! Are amazing!👌
Wanting to do this to my 2019 Sierra with the new power steps that come on the 2500 trucks. Do you think it would be the same process. When I look at my fuse compartment it has the fuse for the power steps.
Ok do you have a harness that will allow you to add 4 bed lights instead of the 2 that the GM kit allows
I have an 18sierra that Im considering the tri mode power steps for.
How did you come across these and do you have associated part numbers?
Nice work!!! I got an 18 Sierra Denali, but it don’t have power boards. Might have to find me some now.
Love these boards! No longer will I be dragging my behind off the seat. Hoping that stepping onto the boards upon exit will preserve the leather seats longer.
hi i had a question......nothing to do with the steps but ....is there a way to put the oem trailer brake on the 2016 gmc Sierra 1500 ... i have a plug in bakc of the change holder and was woundering if it would just plug and play or what would need to be done ? thanks
I just stumbled upon your great videos...what is the part number for the running boards
@phil Gamboa, you sell any of the pins and plugs? i want to wire mines but don't want to order unnecessary amounts
cesar munoz - Yes I can. Contact me at HarnessDR.com
That kick-switch is awesome.

Yes! I added it to my 2021 silverado too!
I bought a 2020 silverado high country but I didn't have the Articulating Running Boards installed and I want the factory ones just like you. You say that no additional program is necessary on the truck's computer, that it is only a cable installation?
When do you think the Center Console video will be up?
hello friend good job, I have a silverado 2019 rst, can be installed in my trok?
Hey Phil is there a harness to connect this same boards to a 2019 GMC Sierra? Can you make me one or where can I find it?
Hey where can I find the factory power steps and I have a 14 GMC Sierra Denali.
Love your work sir, I just wanted to ask you I dont know too much about any of this but I would love to do this too my truck I have been asking around and nobody knows how to do it, so I just wanted to know if you could do the harnesses for me and I will pay you for them thanks and I hope I hear from you and keep up the good work.
Hey phil will these work on a 2016 silverado double cab
Awesome video!
How hard was it to find the running boards?
Seems not to many people would want to part with them.
Art Bunger - Bought them of a member off GM-Trucks Forum. I see them from
Time to time. Mostly those Denali trucks that get lifted, get rid of them.
Hi
Where i can get all this connectors from 1 site?
In nexus they have big minimum!!
You have other parts number at mouser?
Thanks
Hi man..
Very very good video!!!
Many thanks..
What is the part number of this running boards?
You think it can fit to silverado 2015?
Thanks.
It'll fit a crew cab but not sure of part #s. I bought mine from a take off truck.
Awesome work... If I get all the parts from 2015+ Denali (running boards, harness, module, inside dash switch assembly) would it be easy fit for Tahoe 2015+?
None of this has been tested in an SUV.
How did you know they would work that way? GM post 2011 doesn't generally leave availability to do things like this, programming wise. They either charge you for special programming or make it impossible to do altogether.
Phil I bought mirror harnesses from you awhile back for dl8 to dl3 and they worked amazing I just picked up some of these running boards for my 17 denali any way I can get the harness from you???
This one is a little tougher to fabricate. I just got back from vacation and have a ton of other booked orders to tend to. I had another person ask about a harness for this. I'll have to look at my connector/pin inventory. When I made this video, I bought just enough to make my harness. So I'll have to revisit this and see if I can make a complete harness for others.
If you ever do get some harnesses done for the running boards I'll definitely be interested too
I've seen all the upgrades you've done to your truck and I'm currently working on those upgrades
Question. Would this style fit on a 2015 silverado 2500HD diesel high country?
Phil Gamboa do you have those harness for sale?
Wher can i get the pins for tne upgrade
The page you have only can buy more the 3000 parts
Great video! How would you install OEM boards on a 2009 Escalade ext? I recently had one with the factory power steps but sold it and got another one but it doesn’t have the factory button in the cab or boards. I managed to get the OEM boards online for the new truck but I’m not sure how to wire them but I’d like to use the disable switch in the cab so it’s as factory ad it can be. Any suggestions?
Not sure. I only have info for 14-18 trucks.
Phil Gamboa is there anyway you could help me find the info? Just curious that’s all.
@@stephenjacykrealtor I wouldn't know where to start since all my work is done on my personal 2016 truck - most of which applies to 14-18 trucks. Maybe look for GM Truck forums in your year range?
Wow, you continue to amaze me with your videos!! Also, i know the trucks with these boards have a switch on the inside for them as well under the enter console where the other switches are located. Will you be adding this switch to your truck as well? I still want to come and visit with you to see if you can install the door handles for me.
str8304 - In my wiring observations, I couldn’t find any other info on switches. I was another video where these boards were shown. As I understand it, there is a disable switch in the Instrument Panel (under the Temp controls) along with the bank of other switches. I haven’t ventured into looking into that yet as my main goal was to get them functional first.
If I were switch out the back of switches, I would be adding other switches for components I don’t have. So... at this time, I’m leaving it as is. If I get more time to look into that disable switch, I will.
My understanding is that these steps only come on the higher trims (High Country and Denali?). So those trucks will have more features on that I/P Switch I’m referring to.
Shoot me a PM/Email about the door handle install. :). I’ve been getting a TON of messages about these recent mods. Lol
Will do! Which forum are you most active in so I can go there to speak more often? I'm in the Houston/Pearland area and i'm always looking for a reason to do a quick road trip..I just added the 9.7" ipad to my dash and I have the 2014 SLT

Do you happen to have a part number for the complete running board assembly? Been looking for a while.
Me too
Will it work if I have the complete harness plug and play
Good Video Phil
later adition to my 2017 tahoe
If I was to buy the harness thats linked, would i be able to bypass all the wiring and it just become plug and play?
Will they work on a 2014 Silverado
Hello, Thank for posting this. Any suggestions on how I can test my driver's side motor using a multimeter to make sure it's still good? 2017 Sierra Denali 6.2L, Passenger side works fine. Driver's side is dead.
What harness did you use for the power mirrors for them to flip out when unlocking the truck
You set that through the DIC on the radio screen. Hold the unlock button for 2 seconds and the mirrors fold out. Keep holding and all 4 windows roll down.
Man I need some help. I have a 2021 gmc Denali and I bought the OEM powder running board. And I can’t install them. No wire harness. Where can I get a harness.
So, I just got this installed on my 2021 silverado. I have a harness design concept done but it’s not ready to be sold just yet. Send me an email from my website. HarnessDR.com and go from there.
How much would you charge me to make a harness like this one?
Hey man what hardware did you use to mount them? Never done this before and cannot find no info and chevy dealer has told me this is aftermarket and they don't sell just hardware
U-nuts and bolts from a hardware store. M8 x 30mm I believe.
I have a suburban ltz 2015 without boaard factory and I want to buy OEM, what you do in this video would work to install it in my suburban, if you have something that works for me, sell a cable harness
Is ther any way you can make me a harnesses and bill me that way i can just put the pins in the fuse box
I’m about to buy a set of these and attempt to retrofit them on my 2004 gmc sierra using the factory module shown in the video. Do you guys think this can be done I’m assuming there is a driver and passenger door ajar wire that would have to go to the module?
The boards use a GMLAN Signal, which I don't think is present on 2004 trucks.
Please show is how to turn on cargo lights while driving. Good videos!
Nice where store u buy the connectors and terminals
vandisso1 - Mouser for most of my stuff, but these connectors/terminals were purchased by Nexus Electronics.
I have a set from 2017 yukon and and want to retro to a 2016 suburban. Will the same control module work for me
No. Those are different.
Great video. Followed instructions. Drivers side works. Passenger side doesn't, help? Any suggestions?
Joseph Richard Not sure on this. There can be several factors. Bad Board, missed connection, etc.
Happy to say it was my own error. 1 terminal didn't quite reach.... duuu😚 Thanks for responding. Truly, truly appreciated...
I’d love to slap these on my 2018 3500 denali. I wonder if they are prewired in anyway (denali). I also just purchased a 2019 Yukon Denali xl with the power steps. Those would be nice too. Any info on those?
Javier Hernandez - They are not pre-wired. Also, if you have DEF tank, I don’t think you can mount them.
I am now building/selling this harness for $250. If interested, email me at gamboaphil@gmail.com
@@philgamboa2906 are you still making the harness
@@mattmutert3157 Yes sir. Visit my website at HarnessDR.com Thanks!
Where would I get a diagram. Tried to take pictures on CZcams .I think you have the wire sizes reversed. I want to see if I have the same circuit and connections on my 2014 Sierra Denali. I figure most of the frames on those trucks are the same as far as mounting. If I don't have those connections I'll figure it out. I JUST DON'T LIKE THE AFTERMARKET ONES!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
The larger size wires is what provides power to each running board. My diagram needs a little cleaning up as I don't have the wires labeled or the circuit #s called out.
Delmer Archer, did your truck have the connections? Mine didn't, just wondering if and how you were able to do it
Great work bud. I am selling mine off 2018 Sierra Denali and have added a link to your site for people to buy the harness if needed. 👍🏽

Hello Mr. Gamboa I found some of the same steps off of a 2019-2021 wonder if they wire the same or maybe could you install them for me in my 2017 GMC Sierra SLT
You cannot add them. Won’t mount and wiring is completely different.
@@philgamboa2906 thanks for letting me know I really would like those tri mode but they are just so darn hard to find. May have to go with the rough country ones since they are the closest in functionality
i just got a set of these side steps, from a 2017 Denali for $100. My truck is a 2015 GMC SLT crewcab. Is there much difference between the 2015 and 2016?
Wiring harness you’ll want is 14/15. Same harness but has additional wiring needing to come inside the cabin that GM omitted for 14/15 trucks.
That’s bad ass!!
Not including the running boards, how much did the rest of the part cost? Roughly. Just curious as to how much cost was saved
I just bought his harness, he has a website on the description. Then the clips and bolts from a hardware store will run you about 20 bucks. So most will go on depending how much you can get the steps for.
Where can I buy the power assist steps? My 2017 Silverado high country didn’t come with them
I see them on several FB Truck Groups, OfferUP, Cragslist
Phil Gamboa thank you, I will look into it
Did you find the steps? And if you did .. we’re they plug and play , I’m sorry I have a high country 2017 also
Do you still have these running boards or a link to possible purchase some.
A have a nice set for sale! With module
@phil how much would you charge to make that wiring harness and ship to me?
Kody Ellis - Based on your year, you can order these from my website - HarnessDR.com
That's a amazing video. Would those work on 2014 Denali??
Thanks! You would have the explore the connectors like shown in my video. The main point of trying this ugprade is to see if any programming was needed...and there wasn't. So explore the connectors and see if you have the same as shown.
Great job. Did you install the switch under the ac controls that turns them off and on?
I wasn't aware of this switch until someone shared a video of its use. I guess that's what the disable circuit is tied to :) I had a conversation with someone who is looking at doing this. Together, we concluded the "disable" signal (Circuit 7462) ties in the ABS/TCS Hill Descent Control Switch Signal (Circuit 6844). Since these running boards are only found on the higher trims, I am going to presume that the bank of switches that contains the disable button, will have other buttons for this trim that won't work. For that reason, I may not make any traction on adding this button.
Ok I am going to be adding this to my LTZ and was wondering if they could be added. Is there any chance you could let me know the gm factory wire colors off the diagram I see that the power is a red with yellow stripe but what are the rest. Thanks for all the great installs you do.
The wire colors off my diagram were colors I chose when I made the diagram. Email me at pgamboa@yahoo.com. I'll send you the info that way. The factory colors have stripes in them, so it'll be easier to send you the schematics I went off of.
Hello, I just installed mines and now I get a warning "to enable running boards hold the switch" so I just ordered the switch and waiting for it to arrive, is there any other way to manually activate these boards?
How’d you get them to tuck in without power? Or is that even posible?
Loosen the Allen bolts on the knuckle where the board rotates. Just be sure to keep your hand in it so it doesn’t drop to the ground.
@PhilGamboa where are you located? Or how do I get ahold of you? I have some questions to pick your brain with lol
Dallas. HarnessDR.com is my site.
I wander if i can put those on my chevy 3500 dually
DEF Tank might be in the way.
Hello Phil can you make me one of those power step harness
Would these fit on an ext cab ?
I am not 100% sure. I've only seen them on crew cabs.
I have a 2014 GMC Sierra. I don't have pin #8 or pin #39. Is there another way to hook them up?
These circuits are GMLAN and a disable circuit. You won't need to land the disable circuit if you don't plan on install the running board button on your instrument panel. But you will need the GMLAN circuit. If you don't have it in this connector, you can grab this signal in the passenger side kick panel. There is a rectangular connector with a white cap on it. All with green wires. This is where the main GMLAN splice is located.
Phil Gamboa so I can just splice into any of those green wires?
mario garza for the GMLAN Circuit... yes. You won’t need the disable circuit for now... that goes to the button switch to disable to boards.
@@philgamboa2906 I have had these running boards just sitting in storage. I've been to intimidated to mess with the wiring. If I send you the terminals and connectors, how much would you charge me to make me a harness?
I am looking at making a complete harness for this where all you would have to do is just "plug it in". Since the locations of the circuits are in existing connectors, the harness will have the pins crimped where you would need to land them in the video. The cost for this harness (once released) will be around $250. Thanks!

Sergio V No. there is a safety system that will retract them in gear.
Phil Gamboa oh ok thank you for fast reply I just got me a Sierra with these steps
How many bolts
Is it possible to use this harness for aftermarket steps?
I have a single cab And have some amp steps but lost harness. Seems cheaper to buy your harness instead of buying amps harness and module
No. Only for factory boards from a 19-22 truck. Doesn’t work with 2022.5+ “refresh” trucks.
@@philgamboa2906 thank you

i have a 2010 sierra that id like to adapt these to but i dont know if the gmlan program would work or not (or if it was even offered in that older year)i did open my fuse box and also found that it does have a labeled fuse slot for powered running boards as well and on a 30amp jfuse however mine has no fuse in its place. so my question is do you think it would work if my year has the gmlan? and if it doesnt is there any way to rig/modify it to just run off the battery and a relay that works aligned with the door relay? im hoping not the latter. thanks for any input phil keep up the good work brother 🙏🏻💪🏻
@@maxgomez4305 thanks for the feedback and good question. I had some folks about GMLAN in trucks older than 2014 and was told there isn’t. So I’m not sure what or how boards worked in older trucks TBH.
