I moisturize my hair and try to treat it like it is loose. I condition my hair as. Our hair still needs moisture and protein because hair grows from the scalp so it's what we put inside our bodies.
I'm installing my microlocs next month. Today makes it literally 4 weeks away. You were a large part of my decision to give it a go.Thanks for sharing
The steam from the shower is the best. I also do a mixture of water, aloe Vera juice, and rosemary oil
You should deffo have your hair up more often!😍
Thank you!
I agree it's very nice ❤
I literally just got my locs established yesterday, your locs were my inspiration ❤ thank you so much for sharing this, now I can be mindful going forward as well 🤗
Sorry that you lost some of your locs. We are on the journey to we do not know where. At least you have clues as to what it could be and course corrected. As we all must do on any journey.Thank you for being honest about your journey. I needed every where you shared. Thank you.
Thanks for your vulnerability and transparency. The journey is Real and always evolving! Love on your beautiful mane! It’s so beautiful❤
I feel your pain, I have traditional locs so they aren’t as small as yours but when I notice even a little thinning, I’m heart broken, I immediately take out my tool and repair it asap so it doesn’t break off. 👍🏿. I started my locs a few months before you did so I will be 3 years in May 2024 but it has been a journey for me also, we learn as we go and share with others. Thank you for sharing❤
Thank you for sharing lovely - might be time to learn how to repair my locs!
I have been loc'd for a year. I get a retie every six-weeks. I wash my ad condition my hair every three-weeks. I use a leave-in and mouse after every wash. I spritz with water when needed. A retie schedule is a must for micro loc or your hair with thin.
I love your hair up, so classy. I have lost around 10 locs I did them myself and thought the more I have the fuller my hair will be so I lost alot from the back because they were just too small and also I was going 2 months without a retie I like the more fuzzy look. I was actually going to cut my hair, still might do and just be natural but they seem to just be getting better and better I'm 4 years in and have some length as well so I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to wait until the end of the year and see how I feel.
Yaaay, I’m happy to hear that you’ve switched shampoos :)
Thanks for the update!!
Anytime! 🫶🏾
I’m currently 5 years into microloca and also struggled with locs breaking in the years 1-3. I think stress and getting sick affect my locs quite a bit. I can always tell when I went through a rough patch or was sick looking at the length of my locs. I think also using a suitable shampoo helps- something clarifying but not stripping. Design Essentials Oat and Henna Deep Cleansing shampoo is the HG but it’s kind of pricey now that my hair is longer and thicker so I use Aveeno ACV instead but not at all the same… the Design Essentials rescued my hair. And actually, I might go back to it. I think all in all it’s a lot of trial and error. Definitely save your locs for reattachment. And don’t worry, you’ll find a routine that works for you.
Thank you so much, this was so helpful.
I have issues with my sisterlocks at the crown/edges as well. Not sure now often you get your hair retightened but I would definitely suggest getting your edges retightened every 1 1/2-2 months and you can keep the stronger parts on a longer time schedule (I do whole head every 3-4 months).
I can relate. I have lost a few locs too and it really hurts.Mine happened mostly on the front edge, where my roots have historically been the weakest. I believe I have been doing a good job with moisturizing my hair, so I attribute the lost of my locs to the simple fact that it was a weak spot and that was going to happen sooner or later.
That makes sense too!
Hi Ifeyinwa, thanks for the update ❤
My pleasure 😊
when you are in the uk you might want to try almocado. its's a really good shampoo brand for sister/microlocs
Hey girl, hey! You're looking beautiful! I think loc loss is just a part of the game. I think for me I found waiting too long between reties was my issue. (I'm 2.5 years in)
Thank you! My Loctician actually mentioned this too!
Thank you sis for saying that. I mean what hairstyle doesn't lose a little hair at some point? I've started my micro locs a week ago and so far so good 😊 If not along the way it will be buzz cut time and will start over with an Amber Rose look! 😅
Love the updo!
Thank you so much!
I have very soft hair but even with me having slippage I can’t go the no moisture route & I wash my hair once a week. I’ve heard steaming is super hydrating as well
So cute! I feel like we have similar spirits. Hopefully I will find a Loctician near me that can get me right!
Try the onions juice treatment. It strengthen and length your locs
couldn't even focus bc you are beautiful!
OMG! Thank you!
Would LOVEE a shampoo review on the OUAI detox , I’m contemplating buying it 😊
Just posted a TikTok on this ❤️❤️
I am at 2.5 years (October 2021) and I have lost a couple of locs over the time span. One I lost because I was braiding my hair too tight and putting excessive tension on it. My hair grew back and my consultant established a new loc. I lost 3 locs in the front because of postpartum shedding. My consultant again just re-established new ones when my hair grew back. I now have a few that are shorter than the rest but I just live and let it go.
My friend actually reminded me that my loc loss also could have been affected by my braids! I didn't even think about that but this!
Surprisingly, dr bronners doesn’t strip my hair. I wash every 3 weeks and retwist every 6 weeks. BUT I moisturize everyday. I only use water and oil. That’s probably what’s saving me. I also use a clarifying shampoo. I’m terrified of product build up.
I know that you have been going through a lot lately. Also wonder if stress is contributing to this. Praying for your peace at this time.
Oh gosh! I hadn’t even considered that. Thank you ❤️
Yes I was thinking the same.
I wondered if it was stress too as that affect my hair. I lost my first loc a few weeks ago but my loctician said it was because of my glasses - it was right next to where I’d put them on / take them off.
I saw Olaplex has a clarifying shampoo and conditioner -- been wanting to try (I'm 4 months micro loc'd)
Let me know how you get on!
Your hair is absolutely beautiful! Love it❤ Did you mean Jesse hair salon in London? Can you please share their details? Just got in my microlocs and looking for where to retie. Thanks
Thank you lovely! I meant Jus U Salon, I've linked them in my description box
@@Ifeyinwa thanks
It’s probably time to combine hun! They’re only going to continue to break off as it gets longer.
My loctician has started combining the locs that are too small:)
Hey! You can reattach them.
Eden Peppermint Clarifying Shampoo It’s not expensive. Not too harsh
This was really helpful. I want to restart my microlocs the right way so I'm taking notes. Roughly what size are your partings would you say? Quarter inch? What size would you do them if you had your time again?
I have no idea sorry but please have a look at my installation videos that might help
a professional loctician should walk you through all of the size partings when you go for a consultation, and when they look at your hair theyll recommend what size and parting may work for you. At least thats what mine did.
If you're not sick, stressed, vitamin deficient or having problems with your hormones, or just had a baby, then the single most common reason for loosing locs at the periphery is having them installed too tiny.
So basically, it's not anything you did wrong. I follow a number of Sisterlock OGs who have had theirs for well over 12-15 years and noticed that those who didn’t seem to have a problem with locs breaking usually were between 350-399 or had the locs at their hairline done somewhat larger. Didn't look so nice in the beginning, but paid off eventually.
Thank you so much for your comment!
We really have to figure out what works for our hair. Locticians should not be giving universal advice.
Generally, what your hair needed before locs, it still needs.
Is mircolocs the same as sisterlocks cos I'm confused
It could be stress-related :(
Please do some styling videos!! Love the updo on you ❤️😍
Literally just got the Castile soap from watching your wash day video😅
Sorryyyyy!!!!
Hi ladies! Might anyone know how much a retie is in London ?
Tip Top Salon in Boston Manor (Hounslow) charges about £30 an hour. Charges are a bit higher if it’s been over 8 weeks since your last retie. Hope this helps x
I typically pay £80-100 for my reties here in London.
@@Ifeyinwa thanks 😊
@@jescapades2937 thanks 😊
Did you use human hair for the installation?
Nope. Check out my microlocs playlist, I have documented my whole journey
