There was a conscious effort a few years back to not let bees die out and there are lots of beehives everywhere on the rooftops of Paris. Their presence is the sign of a healthy air quality. Plus it's totally fine if they land somewhere, you would touch a flower where a bee landed right ?
For the high carb diet, I think walking around helps and also the type of pastry you eat too. When croissants and such are made with good wheat flour and real sugar, instead of lesser quality flour and corn syrup for instance I figure you'd digest it differently.

You are spot on with the healthy good ingredients. A lot of people don't understand about the poor ingredients that cause obesity especially the genetically modified ingredients that were made to help the undernourished gain weight in different countries and the US found out that's a good cheap way of making money so now almost all of our products are genetically modified everyone is gaining weight at a faster rate.

They are addicted to that and want it where there shouldn't be any sugar.
Experts attribute its excessive consumption to many serious health problems, including obesity, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, among others.

I studied abroad in France for 5 weeks in the summer one year. I ate everything I wanted and (including a BUNCH of carbs) and actually lost a ridiculous amount of weight in such a short time.
But I was also averaging walking 7 miles a day while I was there. I’m pretty sure that’s how the French stay so thin while eating their croissants every morning. It was so easy to get around in the cities. You can walk and pretty much get everywhere. And if you don’t want to do that, their public transportation is so easy to use.

I've also worked at fast food restaurants in the past and there was nothing disgusting going on.. Strict rules were followed to ensure that customers food was not contaminated. First: MOST IMPORTANT ARE THE CALORIES. ONLY THEY MATTER TO WHEIGHT GAIN (when comparing food).
Assume american cookies/food was made of dirt, rocks, and sand. Now, if your reasoning was our bodies can not digest the dirt, rocks, and sand, where are the calories coming from? The sand with no calories? Or the real stick of butter with calories?
As a baker, I can assure you that baked goods in both places are not healthy/ low cal no matter with "real sugar" or not. Many diffrent types of sweeteners with different properties are used not to be cheap but for texture like inverted suger for carmels instead of table sugar because it is gooey and not crystally.
Sub are not all "bad" (in context). For example, margarine is seen as "fake butter", while it is cheaper, it makes the flakes in pastries flakier because it doesn't melt as easily as butter and is easier to work with. Depending on your views, it may be better than butter because of its comparatively low saturated fat content. However both butter and margarine is not heathy, and should be eaten in moderation.
Some additives may be toxic/ bad, but rember dosage makes the poisin and it does not relate to weight gain. Calories do.
      My main points:
      1. Recipes vary from place to place even in France or america (croissants from a fancy bakery or home vs twinkies)
      2. Pantries are not meant and most often are not heathy. Period. They are indulgent treats.
      3. Food "subs" have a place to enhance a foods quality and may be safe or better than traditional ingredients
      4. "quality" or "realness" does not determine calories,
      5. Calories matter (sometimes)

In case you were wondering, Bees do not carry diseases and by nature, they are quite clean creatures. They groom themselves and each other regularly, removing dirt and debris from their bodies. Additionally, bees produce propolis, a sticky substance made from plant resins, which they use to seal cracks and crevices in their hive. Propolis has antimicrobial properties and helps to keep the hive free from bacteria and fungi, thus contributing to the overall cleanliness and health of the bee colony. So it's absolutely not a problem if you see a little adorable CHONKY bee on pastries /food :)))
