  • In Korean the level of politeness in your speech is important, depending on who you are talking to, and there are multiple "levels" of speech ranging from informal to formal. In this super easy video you can learn how to sound more polite in Korean by using the ending -yo. This is not the most formal level of speech, but can be used for most situations; for example with people you don't know, a teacher, boss, or someone older than you.
The example words covered in this video are:
    아니 / 아니요 [ani/aniyo] - meaning "No"
    사랑해 / 사랑해요 [salanghae/salanghaeyo] - meaning "I love you"
    알아 / 알아요 [ala/alayo] - meaning "I know"
저기 / 저기요 [jeogi/jeogiyo] - meaning "Excuse me"
    정말? / 정말요? [jeongmal/jeongmalyo] - meaning "Really?"
    괜찮아 / 괜찮아요 [gwaenchanha/gwaenchanhayo] - meaning "It's okay" or "I'm okay"
고마워 / 고마워요 [gomawo/gomawoyo] - meaning "Thank you"

And you're not wrong! 안돼 [Andwae] also means no, but, there is a difference.
Ani/Aniyo is used for true or false questions, yes or no. Andwae means no as in "you don't have permission", and will usually translate as "No, don't" or "No, I/you/he/she can't". Hope that helps! 😁
