  • A quick review in January 2017 of my new 2017 Honda Vision 110 ESP. A few notes to mention. Apologies for the rushed ending and the apparent litter around the floor where I filmed this, it wasn't me. On a serious note, I mention that the scooter achieved 165 miles on its first tank of fuel. This was wrong, in fact it was 165 kilometers as the scooter odometer was reading in km and not mph. All sorted now though with a Honda recall in which I discovered the fault. Happy days!
    3 Month review has been filmed and coming very soon with a list of upgrades.
    Any questions, I will happily answer in the comments.

    Had one from new since 2013.
    Great little run around.
    Just completed 28,000 trouble free miles.
    I change the oil every 1,000 miles.
    It's a joy to ride, (and I've had a fireblade for 22 years).

    Scooty man.....was indeed me who had a chat with you on the forum about the led lights....(not got around to buying any yet). Suffering with my knees at the moment so having to take it easy with the bike. I'm real glad you've done this review, I was struggling to find any decent reviews before my friend got one...I think I saw somebody do a review on a black one. All the best Wuyang

    Hi scoots man thanks for getting back to me. I'd have to check, but think it was a 15 plate,,,,and trust me on hills it was embarrassing,,,,,which was such a let down having been looking forward to riding one for so long, literally the vision wouldn't hold its power at all my c90 in 3rd up the hill would over take no problem.....no comparison to the innova ( which I didn't expect it to be ). I was destined to buy one but it put me off. It's good to hear they have addressed the problem......both me and my mate like yourself or 18 + stone. Love my little bikes. If you get chance ( if you haven't already) try the Honda sh300, it's the only 125+ cc bike I like, it's amazing in every way.
    Wouldn't mind trying one of these again if this is a different engine. Cheers for letting me know Wuyang .

      penny lucy I think I might do another video, maybe over Easter if I get chance. How about a hill climb special? Might be worth the effort because I identified with your comments about the old model. I tend to think of 30mph+ as a reasonable speed and performance for a scooter up hills.
      Another thing to consider is the new Honda's have an ACG (AC generator) that acts as a starter as well as charge the battery. It outputs more power than scooter generators or dynamo's of the past and if you switch off the idle stop, you can use the extra power supplied by the ACG to power heated gear/grips etc rather than recharge the battery after stopping at the lights. Just a thought you may like to consider.

    You must be one of the rare people who can answer me this question: what is the benefits of on and the other in comparison of the Innova 125 and Vision 110 ? Or in general, the Cub-style bike vs the CVT scooter?
    I've been looking at these two specific models and I'm interested in both but what bugs me is with how legendary and fun Cubs are, I can't objectively see how they're not outclassed by twist-and-go scooters in almost every way. That underseat storage is absolutely cavernous compared to your old Innova. I want to like Cub/Innova more, help me! 😄

    Hi Scooty man, a hill climb special would be fantastic and really appreciated....in your own time. I really enjoyed your innova videos around Scotland and saw you passing down through wadsley bridge in Sheffield near the Sheffield Wednesday football ground.....couldn't believe my eyes....what were the odds of that.....I'm on my forth innova ( I have a thing for little Honda bikes). I've just realised you've done 3 month update whic I'm going to watch. Cheers Wuyang

      penny lucy that was a really fun tour. Did we chat on the C90 forum in the past maybe? I seem to remember a conversation about the LED light system with someone in Sheffield. That was my final day and it rained like hell if my memory serves me right. I was using weather pro on the phone to track the satellite weather forecast and try to dodge the showers. Happy memories those were. I'll get that video done but in the meantime, I notice on a road I ride, the A31 from Alton to Four marks there is a long drawn out incline. Not so steep but the old Vision used to crawl up there and the speed dropped below 40. The new Vision holds 50 which I thought was much better.
      Thanks for your comments, that made me smile thinking about passing the football ground on my Innova.
      Best regards

    I found the small drum brake on my Yamaha Vita soon went out of round. I much prefer disc brakes even though its more cleaning of calipers and seals etc. Looks a nice bike your Honda and powerful enough for fun if you steer clear of dual carriageways and Motorways.

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  Před 7 lety +2

      brandywell44 you might be surprised to learn that I find it fine on both dual carriageways and motorways. We are not talking about riding in the outside lane here of course but if you want to sit on the inside lane at 60-65mph then it will happily do that. I have just fitted a Givi screen which you can see in my update review that I will upload later today. That helps quite a bit and makes the Vision a very viable commuting option in my opinion. The nice thing about drum brakes is the low maintenance of them plus they do what is intended, i.e keep the back end tidy and in line while you use the power of the front to do the main of the work. I'm not a fan of the Vity due to the small wheels. That said it's a good seller due to the value it affords over cheaper less quality offerings. Best regards

    • @brandywell44
      @brandywell44 Před 7 lety +1

      My Vity was much better than I hope for but the small wheels and limited suspension made me go "oof" everytime I hit a small divot, my kidneys got a good workout on a lot of rides. They are now discontinued. I like your Honda, looks good and the bigger wheels will make a massive difference to ride quality.

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  Před 3 lety

      Hello Bili,
      There is a kit to do this but I believe it’s for the older model and not the esp engine. If you follow this link, there is a conversion kit listed however, the later esp engine uses a different starting system which involves the engine rotating backwards and opening the exhaust cam slightly to de-pressurise the cylinder allowing the ACG to spin the motor over hence not needing a starter motor.
      Hope that helps

    Hi Scooty Man i have planned to go on a motorbike/scooter for a looong trip. From Denmark and to Nordkap Norway (3000 km each way). You have tried both the Honda innova 125 and now the Honda Vision ...both great bikes i my opinion. Wich one do you think i best for such a long ride ? i have owned a Innova for a couple a years ago and it was a great bike but i have not tried the 2017 Vision. Please pardon my english it is not the best :o)

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  Před 7 lety +3

      Frank Storm Hi Frank. That's a million dollar question as both machines are very capable. If your pre tour preparations include (where needed) changing the battery, bulbs, tyres, chain and sprockets/drive belts and rollers, and overhaul/check brake pad/shoe levels then I would say the Vision for the reason it has better carrying capability with a better rack and better seat/riding position also. Plus the accessories like the high screen and the rack fitment are better quality. The fuel tank is slightly bigger and the cvt gearbox makes lighter work of all the start and stop miles on those single track roads with passing places I found in Scotland. I guess the combined brakes kind of match the engine braking you get with the semi auto innova too. The plus points of the innova are the tube tyres get you out of trouble on bad punctures that would take a tyre out on tubeless and the innova has slightly higher speed cruising capabilities which to be fair is negligible as you'll average around 20 miles in an hour if your lucky with all the stopping to take pictures. Another plus point of the innova is the kick start in times of a flat battery, hence fit a new one before you go. You will carry less tools with the vision, only a tubeless tyre repair kit and a bicycle pump as there is no chain to adjust. Can you see how they both have merits now? :)
      Second time around, I would take the Vision 110 assuming it's the new much improved one. If you want help in planning before you go and I can add planning help and experience in hindsight, feel free to message me and we can have a chat before you leave. Hope that helps and best regards. P.s no more talking, get and do it! You won't regret a tour on a scooter believe me. It's true you meet the nicest people on a Honda!

      OSOCO that sounds like the battery is flat and there isn't enough power to turn the bike over. Can you hear the fuel pump prime the system when you turn the ignition key to on? Are the headlights dimmer and indicators slower than usual before starting? I would check the battery first and then start to diagnose from there. We have a Vision 50 as well as this 110 model and before this new one, a 2012 model Vision 110 and I never ever suffered problems with the electrics. Good luck with your diagnosis

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  Před 7 lety

      John Davison sadly no. An average man sized full face helmet doesn't fit under the seat. Indeed I can just fit my open face Shoei under there but I have to remove the GoPro sticky mount on the side and even then it's a squeeze. I might try my girlfriends jet helmet to see how much room is left with that. It's not really a problem in any case. A top box makes this scooter a viable mode of transport to commute to work on (unless your a builder or a plumber of course).

    Vision 110,,,,, great on flat or a long slow hill, but terrible up a short steep hill.....really bad. Other than that great little bike. My mates went down to 18mph on one particular hill, which for a 110 Is terrible. However it's great off the throttle and the front brake is amazing.

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  Před 7 lety +1

      penny lucy thanks for your comments. I agree with some of what you wrote but not the one about performance on a steep hill. Is your friends Vision 110 the new 2017 ESP engined model? If so I would take it back as there is something badly wrong with it. The old model did used to die on hills I agree but not this one. It has better torque low down and the slowest I have been up a steep incline is 30-35. It even holds 60-65mph on the Motorway without fuss. I joined the M3 at J10 on Sunday and worried about that incline as you join but it was quick up to 50mph which in my book is an acceptable inside lane speed for a motorway. Tell your friend to test ride the new model and ask his opinion on the difference.

      Hi Scooty Man, just got hold of a 2019 vision 110 with the new esp engine. It only had 38 miles on it when I got it, I’ve another 200 on it since running it in. It’s better up the hills than my friends old version of the vision 110 and that’s before the engine is broken in.
      I’m really impressed with it. I love my little bikes for the back counters lanes. I’ve owned an embarrassing amount of Honda innovas over the years and a few sh300 and 125. This little vision is amazing in so many ways.
      Thanks for the videos, they’re brilliant.

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  Před 4 lety

      Tamlin pearce in some other markets I believe this engine does come with a kick starter but not for the European market as far as I am aware. It’s got a fancy starter system which utilises a decompression device on the camshaft and the ACG doubles as a starter motor. Suzuki make a similar bike to the Vision 110 and I believe that does have a kick starter if that’s important to you. I can understand the reasons why sometimes a kick starter is a good thing as I found out when travelling around Scotland on a Honda Innova. Flat batteries aren’t good in the middle of nowhere.

      Crankshaft Rotator thank you for your comment however, that’s not the experience I just received. I am now on my second Vision 110esp and have clocked up 22000 miles in total over the two scooters. The first one died after a car went up the back and the second one just had a breakdown after 8000 miles. The bike was collected by Honda assist at 10:00 on Monday morning after visiting my home the night before to diagnose which AA couldn’t do). By 3:30pm I had a call to say the scooter had been diagnosed and a new crankshaft position sensor was in order and the bike would be ready to collect maybe Tuesday night or Wednesday.
      It turned out to be ready Tuesday night and the whole cost was covered under warranty. I asked if my warranty was valid as I self service and the reply was that my scooter was clearly well maintained and the dealership wasn’t interested in get out clauses or similar. ‘It’s a Honda, it’s been well looked after and it’s covered’.
      As for ‘Chinese quality’, with all respect given my experience gained on scooter ownership over the years, I think not! It’s built in a factory in Atessa, Italy as is the new SH125 and my other bike a CBF 1000 and they clearly make them with love.
      When you consider that Honda, Harley Davidson, BMW and Yamaha to name a few all have bikes made in China to very high standards, it’s not like it used to be and times are changing.
      I’m wondering if your scooter was in warranty and how well you had maintained it over the years. I cannot comment on the relationship with your local Honda dealer but I have always found mine to be helpful when I ask for help. Funny thing is my local dealership didn’t even sell me the scooter in the first place.

      @@scootyman2974 Thanks for your comment. I normally drive Kymco (50 ccm lasts over 60.000 kms) or Piaggio (Liberty 50, this time 53.000 kms), while the price on the Kymco is only half. Everything on the Honda goes down earlier - for example the speedometer at 11.000 km (Kymco: Almost 50.000 km, Piaggio: Still works), the starter screeks from day 1 sometimes (read at forums, that this is "normal"). My brother has a VFR 800 with a very early breakdown of the alternator (at about 20.000 kms), and in some forums I read, that when a generator (Honda EU 10i) breaks down very early, Honda also shows no sign of goodwill.
      Earlier I was thinking, that Honda is the best of the best. Now I´m convinced: Honda just uses his good call from the past, but its real quality these days is only mediocre. Now I have a Daelim S300. In comparism to a Honda Forza 300 very cheap, more furnishing, and (maybe) a better goodwill in case of a failure.

      Crankshaft Rotator as a second note to my main reply, I ride my Vision to work through the worst weather that Scotland delivers all year round. I live in West Fife and regularly the roads are flooded and I end up riding in water up and over the footboards. It has seen Snow, sleet, rain that hurts your face as you cross the Forth road bridge and wind so strong it moves you from lane to lane. We have a growing little fleet of Visions and PCX’s in the shed at my place of work that sits next to a small fleet of Chinese scoots that clearly are in the budget end of the range and you can visually see the difference. I notice broken rear mudguards (fallen off with fatigue) broken throttles and missing mirrors that have fallen off, brake hose fork retainer failures in the ones with cast alloy brackets, rust, constant electrical failures, failed shock absorbers (we bus drivers are big boys I guess) to name a few things BUT not in the Honda scooters.
      They are absolutely a world apart from the rest in my opinion.
