Dumas was a quarteroon and his father a Black-passing mulatto general in Revolutionary France. I bet he does not care or even approves knowing the character is based on real life black musketeer Aniaba, prince of Assinia, godson of Louis XIV. One of two black musketeers to have existed with Machicor (from present-day Madagascar) who was in the guards of Mazarin, governor of Alsace as early as 1675.
