  • This pickleball player went from a 3.0 to a 4.0 in one pickleball lesson by understanding and implementing these 3 skills! If you can reset from transition, approach the net after a good third shot drop, and let out balls go, then you can also make the jump from a 3.0 rating to a 4.0 rating!

Just great tips! One thing that happens with the rec players I play against. You gave the example of when hitting the ball low with pace from kitchen, it will go out. I know of players that when you are also at the kitchen expecting a dink, they lob it with an unexpected flip. 90% of the time it is in. If you are young and fast you can get it. But older players just stand and hope it is out.

    Good to review these fundamentals!

This is great! The last “in-or-out” skill is huge however typically in the 3.0 range the shot isn’t coming from the kitchen but rather the “banger” from mid-court trying to ram the ball across the net. Doing the same drill with the person hitting at mid-court would be very helpful.

That’s a great point! Definitely doing the same drill from mid court or even the baseline would be very beneficial 👍

It seems DUPR focused more on how you played against others and not necessarily the skills you possessed in playing. She might be 3.0 in DUPR but her skills and knowledge on fundamentals in pickleball are at around beginner~lower intermediate player or in usapa assessment it will be around 2.5

4.0 has more to do with court positioning not just hitting balls from transition zone. If your in the right place strokes are easy to groove. Bangers are your worst enemy. She is a standing duck. If your elbow isnt tucked into your waist, your a beginner.
