love how Odysseus smiles slightly when seeing Hermes - considering that he is his great-granddad
While also having a bead of sweat, showing he is just _ever-so-slightly_ afraid of him.
I am not that educated on this matter, can someone please educate me on Odysseus' family tree?

He tried to con the legendary King Sisyphus and was Herakles' wrestling instructor. He even gave Odysseus his name

the thing that always amuses me when I listen to EPIC and what really makes me chuckle here is the knowledge that Hermes is Odysseus's great-grandfather. There's something really funny to me that he's just messing with his descendant, while still giving him a hand, he just just can't be straightforward about it. Truly a chaotic grandfather move.

The fact that the laugh at the end sounds a bit like a “gobble gobble” sound effect just adds to this with your Hermes design being based on a rooster.
Also! I like how it reads that Hermes purposefully stepped on that twig to give Odysseus an excuse to finally face him. Very much alludes to his carefree and trickstery nature in a fun way of “lemme fuck with my great grandson”

Most people don't see Hermes as terrifying (you can blame pop culture, mostly Disney's Hercules, for that), but you managed to bring out that side out of him SO!! WELL!!! And in such a short time!
The way he smiles at the end is, like. Predatory. It's scary, and it really shows that he'd be willing to strike you down if you offended him. Also, his unhinged laugh makes this even better
And the way he goes from soundlessly walking throughout the trees to purposefully stepping on a branch so Odysseus sees him, because he's a god and a god can't be seen unless they want you to... and he grabs his sword with one hand. Smiling. And he laughs. Omfg

I think that's what I've loved seeing in the animatics that have come from EPIC; so many animators have come up with incredibly creative ways of showing how eldritch the Greek gods can really be.
@@SpectralArchivistyeah I agree, they’re all pretty terrifying despite how pop culture tends to portray them lol. Hermes is a messenger and helps merchants but is also a trickster and psychopomp associated with the underworld. Ain’t always the fun guy lol
God of theives and merchants, so you always need to be on your toes with him. And he isn't afraid to kill to fulfill his mission. When hera had europa(in cow form) guarded by a 100 eyed giant, Hermes killed him in his sleep. Hermes will transport your soul to the afterlife... either picking you up after you die, or killing you himself. This depiction here sums up his character well.
There is something so interesting in Hermes being the only god whose eyes we don't see. It's such a cool visual contrast to make him seem scarier, or potentially untrustworthy - unlike the rest of the gods, who are clear in their intentions, Odysseus has no idea what Hermes is getting out of this besides satisfaction or entertainment. He has no idea if Hermes is for or against him, like every other god he's met before.
Really love how the wings of the shoes look a bit like rooster claws while he’s walking, it’s such a fun detail 0:19
He reminds me of those fae stories I heard about growing up: people being Tricked into a forest by hearing a loved ones voice
ohhh Hi, do you mean a fae or a wendigo ?! An wendigo is a type of Native American sprirt / deceiver A GIANT Deer like -human once a cannibal in life . Now a spirit, who a person can use people’s loved ones voice to get the unsuspecting person to be near and eaten, and i have to which Fae / Fairy sounds like a person who knows you. If anyone does know please tell me in great detail! 🤗

Hermes' little ankle flexion before he jumped is so satisfying. Also his laugh sounding like a little jungle bird then a crow! OH and Odysseus' eyes following Hermes even though he's facing away.

I've only seen a few animatics that - briefly - depict Hermes as intimidating and dangerous. I LOVE your adaption and how much you lean into that part of him.

He has that Pan from Gargoyles energy (some of y'allmay be too young to remember that show ) - chaotic, sinister, playful in a "you're going to look back on this in decades and find this hilarious" kind of way.
Which is perfect for the trickster god of luck, thieves, and travel.
I absolutely love how you portrayed Hermes here. You showed how much Odysseus is truly at the mercy of the gods. Hermes is not out to get him like Poseidon is and yet; the terrifying danger and power you conveyed with Hermes, just made Odysseus feel all the smaller and more human.
Especially with Hermes at the end. Amazing Job!!!

I think Hermes is slightly terrifying because he is a trickster in the best and worst of ways. This deal of helping Odysseus is purely for his own entertainment. You can hear the mocking tone in his every word.

Wow, the storyboard in this is absolutely beautiful! The little details and body language are incredible.
You have my favourite Hermes design out of all the animatics I have seen.
I love how it sounds like Hermes' laugh is distinctly like animals, like a bird or small chimp or something, because his voice would blend into the environment due to the divine nature of gods, only becoming clear when he's speaking (sending a message), and he's also just hopping from branch to branch, so silent that Odysseus doesn't even know he's moving, just that he doesn't know where the unknown person is, then Hermes stepping on the branch to let Odysseus see him.
Originally Odysseus' smile was to keep his cool in case this was a threat, then as he sees hermes, bead of sweat forms, sorta almost like a "Holy fuck you scared me for a moment" type look
