    Scroll down for time stamps.
In this video I meet up with Mark and we chat about bikes and compare our Royal Enfield Classic 500's. His bike was produced for the Indian market and he noticed some differences to mine, which is a UK model. Some of the differences are down to the age of the bikes, mine being three years newer. As you can tell, neither of us are experts, but we spent 20 minutes wandering around the bikes picking things out.
It seems the oval cover on the side of mine does indeed hide the ABS gubbins, where his has a little cubby hole.
Please feel free to comment if you know which differences are due to the age of the bikes, and which are due to the different markets that the bikes were produced for. And of course if you know of any that we haven't spotted.

I am so glad my vintage British motorcycles are pure motorcycles not touched by government regulations. I love my BSA C-15 250 singles in both street bike and dirt bike versions. Room enough for 2 up because they were made to be real transportation not a child's toy. My Triumph TR25W " Turd" goes faster in the dirt than I want to go. Big touring HD's weigh more than my URAL side car outfit.l can't imagine picking up one of them with out a crane. My Triumph TR25W is light enough for me to put it on a milk crate to do chain maintenance . So blessed to have my little critters.

Despite the EFI, o2 sensors etc. these bikes still have character. I quite like carbs and minimal technology on a bike. I suppose there’s advantages and disadvantages either way. Modern bikes don’t need a drip tray left under them, and they’re more reliable. But if there are any issues you’re less likely to be able to fix it yourself with a simple tool kit. Euro legislation has left bikes running ultra lean. I fitted a booster plug to richen the mixture, but it’s a shame we have to find a way around the ridiculous restrictions. There will come a time that we won’t be allowed to make such changes.
Many thanks. Nice to hear about your old bikes. I have a 64’ AJS 350 in the garage. One fine day I’ll get around to fixing it up and taking it out 🤞🏼

Great chat and interesting you saying 27 bhp is fun on the 500s. After 52 years and many many bikes of all types I have found the 20bhp of my Classic 350 has given me the most fun and enjoyment in years. For the first time I am not thinking what bike would I like next. Keep up the great interview videos, love them 🙂

The locking fuel cap did used to be on the UK bikes but was changed in the last few years for a more authentic looking screw in cap. ABS appeared with the rear disk for the Euro 4 bikes, made from late 2017 onwards, which I believe applied worldwide. The front name plate is not on Indian market bikes because of the additional front number plate.

That's definitely a Indian market 2016 Model classic 500. From 2017 Indian models Tank is not bolted and got a side stand down switch, single spark and got EFI. All 500 models were discontinued from Feb 2020 in India. Iam from India and I own a 2017 model 500. This bike got its own character.

Wonderful commentary and chat, gents! Here I sit, in southwestern USA (New Mexico) with a new-to-me 2018 Classic in battle green in my garage. Just found it on marketplace, drove up to Denver over the weekend and she followed me home in my truck bed. The side cover had been off as the young lad who owned it claimed shifting issues. I inserted a wavy washer on the shifter shaft as some of these bikes are a bit loose where the shaft rides in the right hand cover. It shifts fine on the centerstand through the gears so a few more bits 'n pieces need to go on and I'm off! My daily commute is on a BMW 1200RT which is a stellar machine but for it's purpose of covering miles with speed and comfort. The Enfield just captured my heart, taking me back to my early days on a Yamaha 650 twin. If I could only transport myself and my new "green machine" over the pond it would be splendid to share a ride with you....on the wrong side of the road, but I won't hold that against you. Cheers from America!

The BMW 1200RT is far away her favorite. The comfort, wind protection and performance is simply stellar. I do believe he'll greatly enjoy the bike as will his wife. Oh, I got all the bits 'n pieces back on the 500 and zipped around the neighborhood today. It's GREAT FUN! Entirely different riding experience but I can't wait to do some work commutes on it. So far down to a VN900, but I'm pretty sure there will be an RE Classic 500 sitting next to it before long. The twin spark idea is for a cleaner burn and also a more rapid burn giving more power on compression, so in theory Marks bike is quicker off the mark.

Question SB do you get more pleasure out of riding your Enfield's than you did with Nikita or your latest big bike ? I ask this because I am at an age where I am starting to think that lighter and less power could be more enjoyable . Having said that I do still like having a good level of power for when I feel like flying but maybe not so much the weight of my 1200 Yam . How interesting that I have written this before watching this vid and I am thinking this has answered my question to a great extent . I think during my time riding I have had most fun on my old Z650 and a old GS 550 Suzuki 4 cylinder ,perhaps I should go back to that or maybe I will never find what I am seeking who knows fer me I am aware time is running out so am I just panicking because I do not have enough of it to try all that is out there and what it has to offer.😉👍 Good watch !!

Hi Crumblymal! No short answer to this.
The Classic 500 is the most fun I’ve had on a motorcycle since learning to ride my friends FS1E on a farm as a kid.
I made a couple of statements in very early videos on this bike, which I still stand by today.
      1. This bike has rekindled a flame that I didn’t realise was going out.
      2. On paper, this bike is terrible. In reality it’s probably the best bike I’ve ever owned.
It’s very hard to put into words, but almost everyone that owns one seems to feel the same way. They are charming and endearing, and raise a smile every time. As I said during the video, they feel vibrant and alive, and after owning one other bikes seem to be missing something.
Nikita (Z900rs) is a thrill, don’t get me wrong. But when just going out for fun, I have walked past her many times to jump on Ernie.
BUT…at the moment, I don’t think the Classic would work as an only bike. I still want a bigger bike for the longer rides. You are limited to some extent on the 500, as it’s happiest at 50-60mph, and much over that feels a bit of a strain. However, as I get older it may well suffice.
The Himalayan doesn’t have the same level of character, and I haven’t ridden a new 350 so couldn’t pass comment on that.
I would recommend anyone to try a 500, and would be surprised if they didn’t like it. I spent years of going bigger better faster more, only to find the most pleasure from this little, somewhat agricultural single cylinder.
I’ve reached my waffle quota for the week, and it’s only Tuesday 🤦🏻‍♂️
      Many thanks my friend 👍🏼
