Thank you for the video before I beat it into submission lol. The red ring is most likely to help keep the new seals from getting damaged when installing the assembly 👍

Yep helps a-lot. I have 310G that the same cylinder is getting very hot and noisy like a dry pin that needs grease. Need to pull it apart and see if it is fix-able or not

If you have metal on metal friction within the cylinder your problem is far beyond a seal kit. You are probably going to have to get a new cylinder...unfortunately. Ok ...yes ...metal on metal friction will make the cylinder hot but you have already destroyed the cylinder in that case.

Thats some great info. Had no idea how to do this. Is it very hard to pull the rod out ?

Many thanks for the video. I have a 1989 John Deere 410C and I'm in the process of repacking all of the cylinders at the moment. I already have all of the seal kits for both the pistons and the guides on each cylinder, however I'm taking all of them to a local business for them to repack for $70/each with the exception of the swing cylinders... It looks like the swing cylinders are easy enough to repack while mounted on the machine... Do you simply swing the boom all the way to each side when attempting to disassemble each cylinder? Also, did you end up also replacing or sleeving the pivot pins on the boom where the boom articulates right to left? Any information would be appreciated. Again, thank you for the video and great channel!

Could you use the boom to pull the rod out instead of a come a long? Hook a chain to the bucket and extend it. Don't hit the swing pedals of course ;-)

Not recommended! When your old seals come up on where the snap ring was you have to be very careful that they slide easily past your temporary plastic filler ring smoothly. If you have too much resistance STOP!!. and push the assembly back to make sure that temporary plastic ring is still seated properly. Trying to force it past if seals get hung in that snap ring groove could mean loosing the whole cylinder. Be very careful here and pay attention.

I've been beating and beating on the retaining collar. Seemed unlikely it would be stripped, after watching it's likely unscrewing I'm just pushing that collar in at the same time which is why I see no difference, I hope. now back to work.

For anyone watching, I cannot seem to get the glad to push back into the cylinder. Any suggestions? The retaining (snap) ring is froze and will not spin either

The only thing in the swing cylinder that would get hot is the hydrolic oil. The cylinder would not make the oil hot. Is only one cylinder hot or both sides? The oil also lubricates the transmission and the machine will heat the oil. May be that you need to service the radiator or change the filters to make sure the engine itself (the heating element) is not overheating.
