- One deterrent we have seen that prevents some from competing in USPSA are the provisional rules surrounding the guns and gear you can use and what division they put you in. It can be overwhelming at first, but we wanted to break it down as best we can so you can know exactly where your equipment puts you when you go shoot your first USPSA match.

Not as interested in anything competition related, but it's refreshing to see a clear and concise video on the topic.
Thank you for watching! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any specific questions not covered in the video.
This is the best video I’ve seen explaining USPSA, answered every question I had. Great work, subscribed.
Second this…nice job dude
Good stuff. Precise, straight to the point, no BS. Really dig your video!
Look an Asian lol. Thanks for putting this video out. I've read some of the rulebook, But your video takes any mystery or questions out of the equation. Been wanting to try my hand at competition. Shooting in this video definitely gives me the confidence that I may have been overthinking getting started. The minor major power factor thing was always confusing to me. After your explanation, it seems fairly simple. Great video for us beginners looking to get started 🤙🏾
My man
Just stumbled onto this video. Super helpful as I want to get into competition shooting and knowing what different things are needed from a battle belt (which I am making currently).
Good stuff!
Thank you for the getting into the basics. My son and I are going to try carry optics tomorrow for the first time. This was very helpful
Awesome! Good luck 🤘
Very informative video. Lots of questions answered. Look forward to additional videos. Thanks.
Thanks for a clear and informative video! I'm interested in trying out competitive shooting for the first time, so I'm in the info gathering stage. This video has gone a long way to answering questions I didn't even know to ask. Looking forward to future content.
Great video. Love the concise breakdown!
Thanks for the video! looking forward to everything else you guys come out with.
We appreciate it! We got some cool stuff coming
This is such a good video. I'm looking to get into comp shooting and you address everything I'm curious about. Thank you.
Excellent information 👍🏿👍🏿
PCC division allows sbr's provided it's legal in your state. You don't have to shoot a 16in barrel.
Great video, very informative!
Thank you! We appreciate the support
Thanks for the video! Very informative…..I’ll try concealment route first to see if I like it.
Great video..
Great video.
Thank you!
You have good taste in guns.
PCC you can shoot something shorter than 16" barrel you just cant run a brace and it has to be SBR.
You guys are putting out some good quality videos. My only suggestion would be cutting them down a lot. Either make them a multi part series or just remove some of the explanations. I think a lot of people have such a short attention span and a 30+ minute video is a big “commitment”.
this was a great video the only error i saw was about pcc ... you are allowed to use an sbr in pcc as long as it is a legal sbr and allowed in the state being used (just no braced guns)
"Nobody cares about revolvers"😂 Great to wake up to a new video drop!
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Lots of good info. No one cares about revo. 😂
I think the fact that many carry optics shooters are doing well in limited optics somewhat proves the point that that division should have its place. A 2011 with a slide ride optic and minor power factor is more comparable to traditional carry optics guns than they are traditional open guns( that they would have previously been competing against) with compensators, frame mounted dots and major power factor.
True.
Thank you for this information. I am still not sure what division should I be in. I am new to this and I have a 5” Prodigy with optic and magwell and a modified trigger. What division should I put in if I conpete on steel challenge? Thank you.
Great video bud,
What about a P320 that i built from the ground up. Is that allowed?
Factory FCU, wilson combat grip module, factory or not brand slide....
Red dot, but no ports/comp, or magwell for reference.
Sounds like you’ll be in CO man.
Thanks for another great video. Super helpful. This maybe a dumb question- I tried to look it up and can't really find the answer. I've been practicing with a Canik Rival that i'm planning on taking to competitions, using Blazer Brass 9mm 115-grain FMJ. Will this ammo suffice to take to competition or will I have to start using a higher grain like 147 grain, etc? I don't see any velocity info on the box. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Google power factor for 9mm and you will get your answer
I run my M&P 2.0 with an Apex, a streamlight, and a Carver customs magwell in limited optics and I'm doing okay against the 2011 guys. It just goes to show you it's the shooter not the gun when it comes down to it. A lot of people laugh at my M&P because they got a $4,000 staccato. But the apex trigger on the M&P is no joke. And the Carver customs magwell is no slouch either. Not being said I plan on running a 2011 at some point. Just because they're badass
Ok as a " newer " player, when to have a backup gun in a match does it have to be the same model & caliber ?
Just had a class with JBS and alresdy have my first rifle/pistol match on the calendar. Gonna sign up for a pcsl match too
Great job man! Mark is a fantastic instructor
On the brown belt with Henning hanger.. is that a blade tech connection? I have an m&p as well I compete with I like that brown holster.. which armament option is it?
Not sure exactly what you’re asking. It’s a Hammer Armament “Baldur” on the Henning T-1000 hanger. The mag pouches are Hammer Armament as well, and attached via TekLok.
Actually if you have a leagal, stamped SBR in a pistol caliber you can use it.
If I have a 2011 and red dot but has a light with those tactical development pro ledge will that put that gun in open division instead on limited optics?
Thumb rest “gas pedals” are allowed
In carry optics, I know you can't have barrel ports, but as part of your slide work can you have slide cuts (like side or top windows)?
Yep that’s fine.
What iwb mag carrier is that?
Are the battle belt lites you guys running 1.75 inch? No issues attaching “gamer” hangers?
I’m looking for a different mounting option other than safariland
(Thinking boss hanger)
I (Justin) ran the Battle Belt Lite for awhile and it is 1.75 and it doesn’t play super nice with the gamer hangers, but it can still use a boss hanger on it you just have to put it on somewhat cleverly
@@GatewayDefense thanks for the response! Appreciate your time
Hey brother, what brand/model in the green iwb mag holster you have at 22:28?? Thanks..
That’s from Hammer Armament! His only iwb offering.
Was here for the revolvers😔
Thigh straps are now totally legal, for anyone watching March 2024 onward
And you would be at a disadvantage if you wore a thigh rig. This sport is about speed.
@JJLTACTICALSOUTIONS That is a common misconception. A thigh strap has zero bearing on speed like a holster does. If I attached one to my MRH race holster, it wouldn't slow me down at all. It also wouldn't help much, but that's because it's only been allowed for a few months. You can expect to see more competition oriented ones to fully take advantage of the new rule as people design competition specific ones.
Are gloves allowed?
Can you help me with a beginner belt set up of possibly just shooting from AIWB , I’m just going to start my first competition and I don’t want to buy a lot of stuff if I can use the gear I have at home, I don’t have an OWB holster for my pistol at this time Thanks
You’re pretty much all set! All you need is just a mag pouch or two for spare mags and you’ll be good to go
@@GatewayDefense thanks for the quick response!
One last question, If I have a 2011 and red dot but has a light with those tactical development pro ledge will that put that gun in open division instead on limited optics?
Does the flashlight have to work so someone doesnt just fill the thing with tungsten to gain like a pound of weight at the muzzle of the gun?
Correct!
@@brennanbrennecke3323 I had a feeling. quick question since you replied so quick. Have you tried Black Scorpion Belts/holsters? Seems decently priced. I have a Staccato P and was looking to get a belt going. Do you have any recommendations that you sway towards?
Yeah tons of people in class with them. Tbh I’m not impressed at all. See folks messing around with them a lot. They probably work fine but I’d go with a more trusted name. Look at Howitzer or CR Speed or double alpha academy or shooters connection for dedicated comp belts. For more versatile belts I’m going blue alpha all the way. Holsters we both run the Hammer Armament Baldur holster. Justin runs Trex arms Mars mag carriers and I run the ones from hammer.
@@GatewayDefense Hey thanks man, definitely helpful. Their customer service was kind of rude when I was attempting to ask some basic questions about light compatibility so I will definitely check out some of those. Do you have a code with any of these brands I can use just to send some love back your way for the help?
Do you have a link for the range bag?
www.saviorequipment.com/collections/pistol-case/products/specialist-range-bag
Uh oh I’m looking to get into USPSA but the only handgun I have is a shadow systems which has is ported from the factory 🙁and I have a red dot on it
Not a problem! That would just put you in Open Division. But with just a quick barrel swap to a non ported barrel that would move you to Carry Optics
@@GatewayDefense oh wait sorry, the slide is ported. So I’d have to get another non ported slide to get into Carry Optics?
I just looked at the rule book and looks like slide ports are allowed now in carry optics :)
What about the 365 x macro comp?
Sure thing, that particular model would have to compete in the open division.
Yep any porting or compensators will land you in Open, no matter what.
@@kenpasternack9108 thank you
@@GatewayDefense thank you
your shirt looks like it's on backwards.
Thank you
If you are accurate with a revolver it makes semi auto sooooo easy.🤷
I refuse to be bullied like this
Don't say that to Jerry miculek
It is a good video. As it happens, I am 61, not 21, so I do not have a red dot optic on any of my firearms. No plans to do so. Not going to buy another expensive holster to accomodate it. When I go to observe a match, I see virtually no one shooting production in USPSA or stock service pistol in IDPA. It is carry optics, pistol caliber carbines, and unaffordable "John Wick" guns. A real turn-off. If you can enjoy it, drive on. The friendliness and equity of this disappeared a long time back.
Problem is bad attitude. Set something up that you like and is 100% reliable. Your division and classification takes care of the rest.
@@warrenrosen132 You are entitled to your opinion just like I am.
Pretty sure you can run a shorter barrel in pcc but it has to be a registered sbr. I’m not a 🏳️🌈 pcc shooter tho so I’m not 100% on the ruling 😂
I think you’re right…but who cares. 😂
Good information but you showed your rookieness by filming with the sun BEHIND you, over your shoulder. When you hold a black mag or black gun in front of you, in front of your BLACK SHIRT, you can't see. Don't do that again.
Listen Mark, you’re sounding awfully bossy there pal.
@@brennanbrennecke3323. Some people need INSTRUCTION, not suggestions.
@markhamilton2411 Bro who hurt you? Lol
@@chrisharmony160. If you see someone doing something wrong, do you just let them keep doing it? What kind of human is that?
Who the FUCK cares Marcus
NOBODY cares about revolvers
People like you don’t care about them because your little tiny sissy hands can’t handle a revolver.
