    25 yes a groomer. Number one priority: pet hairs WILL drill into your skin . Over years. Make sure you have microabrasion , peels n SCRUB your entire BODY every night to get them out daily. You will be glad for this tip from a lifelong groomer, my own business and groomed
    at times 15 dogs a day. Plus, I never encountered disrespect. Quite the opposite. I'm a college graduate with post grad degree.
    I HATED THE business world, went toNYSCHOOL OF PET GROOMING N MADE GREAT MONEY opening up my own business.
    ALSO, NEVER, EVER HIT OR ABUSE AN ANIMAL. IF SO, find another profession.

    I told my mom I wanted to be a pet groomer instead of a vet and she told me I couldn’t because I’m too smart and she said I have to be in a job that makes me use my whole brain. It really hurts to hear that she doesn’t approve of what I want.

      Yes I can completely understand that. My mother as well thought it was very crazy but until I went to school, graduated and passed my first master class is when she realized it has so much more to offer. As iam working on my mobile grooming buisness up and ready she has been one of my biggest support in my future. It took me taking it to a real understandable level of grooming for her to see it is a passionate and devoted job that I can take to any level I wanted too. Its hard for people when we as groomers are NOT regulated because that's where those bad stigmas can come from. When I have stated to a client I am a professional pet groomer working on my masters they hear those words and my passion and see I do not fit in that status qoe and that I care and want to be the best that I can be. Not saying others don't but that stigma is difficult to push through when no one knows that there are differences in grooming salons and groomers alike.

      Honey to survive in this economy a veterinarian is the better paying carreer if you truely ask me look at it that way

    • @lindamartin2624
      @lindamartin2624 Před 3 lety +12

      @@mattiadizard7431 I disagree. The amount of possible debt to get a degree in a field plus the timeframe it takes and the non security( getting fired for no or dumb reasons at any time or being audited for owners who think they were in the right) you take with that degree is sooo not worth it. I know many vets personally and they wish they thought or had options on other pet careers because what we get paid is based on what we want to get paid so really we can make much more than many 4, 6 or even 8yr degrees can give you with much less time and more freedom and love. And to become a vet you have to start as a vet tech typically which means you have to do things to pets no groomer or person would ever want or have to do. The emotional struggle with doctors, vets, nurses and anyone who has to deal with death is for very strong folks and most don't go on to be vets due to what they have seen. Lots to gain from becoming a well established groomer and to persuade someone otherwise or deam them less than they are worth is sooo crazy. I think more certified and passionate groomers should be out there but these stigmas are so silly.

    I had an old classmate laugh at me when I told her what I did for a living. She said "at least I have an ADULT job (working at a funeral home...) I wish I could go back in time and let her know how much money I made, and then ask her how much she makes and compare....so irritating when people judge like that. And think we make no money when we actually make pretty decent money.
    I've always had to groom a dog before getting a job.
    You should also talk about 1099 vs w2 in the grooming industry. Not sure if the laws are the same in Canada, but 1099 is a serious problem here in the states. Employees are really getting screwed over.
    I definitely don't think every dog is cute either anymore lollll

    • @PawsRelax
      @PawsRelax  Před 4 lety +8

      So frustrating when people don’t take us seriously!! As long as you love what you do it doesn’t matter what others think of you or how much you make!
      We don’t have the same w2 issues here in Canada but would love to hear more about it from you!

    • @lindamartin2624
      @lindamartin2624 Před 3 lety +1

      Oh yes 1099!!!! It is a true issue. And many groomers do not know this is correct. This goes back to a previous comment I had about the shops we have all over our area and no one is regulated so some shop owners take bad advantage of others for their benefit. And to have an LLC (limited liability company ) just means you have a basic buisness where there are rarely any check ups on those buisness and the only way to make any real complaints is through the BBB (better buisness bureau) which they can take forever for action. Its truly crazy and scary to know all these things that people can work around just to make money and in ways that are not up to code,standards or even safe. I have seen too many and have choose not to work for those salons due to a lot that is just not ok for employees,parents and pets. :(

    Appreciate this video. Very true and put very plainly which I love. I would state maybe updated video (may have missed if there is one :/ ) on some things but I love the mention of regulation. I know some countries have already moved on that curve ball but the states are still a bit behind. I remember when I was just starting school and how all my teachers stated in 5yrs or so there will be laws in place to regulate us and that by goin to the school i had and working on my masters will definitely set me apart as well as be well prepared and qualified for when it dose happen. With that said it has about 5yrs or more since then and boy I hear all bout it but come to law passin time nothing on those ballots :( jus wish more folks knew how scary it is and hard as a groomer to not discredit other groomers or places when knowing their practices, procedures and handling. It hurts me all the time considering my location we have sooooo many shops, Mobiles, and backyard grooming around and a grand majority of them have never been to a show, took a class, competed or took any schooling but love pets and think what they do is what needs to be done. Again very scary. All side subjects I suppose. But yes I love the video and when I have bathers interested in grooming I will use this video as a tool :) thank you!!!

I’m not sure why I’m telling you all this, I guess it’s just refreshing to hear I’m not alone in this business, I have worked by myself with a few different assistant these pass nine years! Good video, all good things to consider for a person thinking about entering this field, you have to treat it like you are in the medical field, there are certain lines you can not cross, ( your customers and pets are not your friends) they are not your enemy's neither, this sounds harsh but you are a professional doing a service for a customer bottom line, it's hard to do i know, but it will save a lot of heart ache at the end of the day and it will prevent or prolong burnout, that doesn't mean you can't give great customer service, thanks for the great video......Scott (American Kennel Club, Westminster groomers, Wilshire professional groomers).

      Yes I've heard that before. I wish we can apply that to the states. I am a professional pet groomer working on my masters and when I explain to customers. Coworkers, friends and family I always have to give the low down that there ARE no regulations on groomers and that when we can actually pass a bill to make that change lots of shops around here will either have to be tested or close up. Due to covid some already had too though I feel that was more bad money management from experience but I can see how it has made it harder as well. If it were more known that we here in the states are not I feel it could make great change ya know.

      So there are a few options. I can only say for the states but some of them can be applied all over the world. There are grooming schools i would like to say basically everywhere but I may be wrong. With that said there are online courses that can set you up with a grooming shop near you to do your training. That is the more difficult way I have come to see, places like petco, petsmart they can train you but may need a contract of how many years you would need to work there or once you can pay them back from the amount of school from work. Those would start you as bathers and can take some time to qualify to go to their grooming school, there are also professional pet grooming schools that can set you up to go for your masters which takes 7yrs minimum to complete.now that is watched and I believe manged through the AKC and can be under other programs. Mine is through the IPG program which works in hand with all AKC requirements, regulations ,standards and oaths. I hope this helps some??

    Honey,
    #1 Grooming is NOT a career is a job, that is all! A career is medicine, law, dentistry and mental health, among many others, these are people who has gone YEARS of schooling and came out with DEGREE from a UNIVERSITY.
    #2 Grooming is a job that SHOULDN'T required any type of license, as licenses are for PROFESSIONALS in the medical, dental or mental health care, among law many others that do deserve to be licensed.
    #3 Stop calling them clients as the people and dogs/cats you work with are CUSTOMERS, not clients. Leave the term clients for attorneys as patients are for the dental, medical and mental health care.
    I truly think that you have chose the wrong hobby to pursue, but if at least you choose to continue playing all day long with peoples' pooches at least use the right terminology honey.
