    Mr Drone, you mention "OCD" again, with reference to "missing" panels. Is there any chance you could take a close look at the Vents on the East Stand? There has been some discussion of the fact that they are not symmetrical.

    • @MrIanmmackay
      @MrIanmmackay Před 22 dny +3

      It was mentioned (again) in yesterday's video. They are functional, not just for show and are inlet/exhaust vents for air-conditioning etc. with duct-work directly behind them. I suppose they could've installed dummy vents just to maintain symmetry, but they've chosen not to.

      @@davidbadcock2225 Just had the benefit of CP's latest where he does a close up of the Vents. From what I can see it would've needed 6 Triangular panels( with a slightly different pattern) to balance the appearance. With all due respect, david, I think your point about 'aerodynamics wind, rain, etc doesn't hold water. There are 14 such Vents on the West side...

    • @davidbadcock2225
      @davidbadcock2225 Před 21 dnem

      @@mikeoglen6848 Hi Mike, all respect to you too. My point is not about the number of vents, nor there single view symmetry, but the necessity of vents being where the exhausts from the building are situated. If you have vents where they line up with positive exhaust, then the resultant aerodynamic means that it is taking water and air away from the surface and preventing air and rain breaking through the barrel-cladding. If you provide a large area of vent without there being a positive exhaust from behind then air and rain will ingress and disrupt the barrier provided by the barrel-cladding. It may be an inconvenience but I'm merely attempting to explain the engineering principle that is the cause of the asymmetry, that's all. I am not suggesting for a moment that the asymmetry is not a cause of much distress to many nor that one artistic perspective is any better than an other.
      It would seem that the tumult about the Expansion Joints in the Barrel-cladding has died down, for a moment even ignoring that they are also asymmetrical due to the difference between the lengths of the South and North Stand rooves, so it's very much down to 'getting used to it'.
      (Personally I am relaxed about the vents, as I understand what the architect was intending to do, but I quite understand that most others are not relaxed and can be quite uncomplimentary about the architect's principles).

    After watching this stadium 'coming to life' for the last 15 months or so via your videos Nick (for which I thank you), one thing that has always struck me as it 'could have been better' is the black panels that sit inbetween each bit of false brick facade. I presume that they are aluminium and when I say better, what I mean by that is could the black panels not have been royal blue?. Doubtless there will be a reason, and more than likely a perfectly good one, but I am just interested to know whether blue panelling would have been an option, Thanks.

    One of the metal supports is now white,will they all be painted white? The two rows of safety fences on the roof are they permanent?

    • @davidbadcock2225
      @davidbadcock2225 Před 22 dny

      1) It's difficult to know exactly what they're upto with the repainting of the lower level vertical steels. They have been repainting all the steels above the concrete rooves on the North and South Stands too.
      2) Yes the two E-to-W walkways across the North Stand roof are permanent. I am expecting them, if following plan, to add a walkway on the Standing-Seam roof just inside the curve of the gutter, and then the removal of the temporary rails that are still fitted along the gutter but I'm beginning to wonder if that's still going to happen.

    Weird observartion, but i've got a feeling there's going to be a lot of bird poo showing on the black panels. particularly on the two ends of the outer west stand bridge there where the panelling is angled. i wonder if that's something that has been thought of and will be factored into a cleaning schedule or if it will just be left for the rain to wash off periodically. obviously a lot of gulls in the area. i know its inevitable but it really is noticeable when you zoom in. Maybe it's a nothing issue🤷‍♂

    • @MrIanmmackay
      @MrIanmmackay Před 22 dny +2

    • @davidbadcock2225
      @davidbadcock2225 Před 22 dny +1

      Liam: it's not a weird observation and a cause for concern from early days. You have noted the gull 💩 on the black panels, which has been present for a very long time indeed and not moved. Unless someone is watching from a drone or present on UU's site, that particular perspective won't be seen by anyone on BMD land but I guess that it'll be maintained/cleaned infrequently, much as the windows will need attention even less frequently. Whilst the glass is 'self-cleaning', that's a misnomer as really it just means it has less that will stick to it and therefore is "low maintenance", rather than 'maintenance-free'.
