With Patch 1.0.3 Summoned Lightning Spear was significantly buffed! It used to give up to 100% damage, and it now gives 160% damage (both multiplicative)
So there's a couple interesting options here:
1) Swap Invoked Lightning Spear to Summoned Lightning Spear, you'll pick up plenty of crackling energy and stack the damage bonus easily (every 8 balls).
2) Play around with it, could be worth taking the 5 ranks from Ball Lightning, putting them into Lightning Spear, and running the Lightning Spear Enchantment in place of the Ball Lightning Enchantment, however I'm a bit concerned you won't generate enough crackling energy to keep the bonus up when summoning them consistently.
Casting this manually, probably means dropping Ice Armor which gives you another 2 points to put into damage or Mana generation elsewhere.
i would be really happy if this chain lightning build could become a A tier you think with the spear buff it can happen?
If you mean A Tier on Maxroll's tier list? Not a chance it's still miles behind Ice Shards, Blizzard, or most other classes.
@@Tenkiei I think this works way better with half-ass gear (30-75) than any other sorc build. I switched around 55 and tried all the things sorc has to offer. Chain lightning brought me the quickest through low NMDS, WT4, and to a stage where I can farm for NMD pusher gear like Blizzard
I agree, Chain Lightning is an excellent build when you have lower gear. I think it's going to be my go-to in the future because you can fix mana via the paragon board and get solid CC. Plus I don't really enjoy the playstyle of flamewall.
@@Tenkiei -- I watched a video of a chain lightning sorcerer doing arc lash damage without adding any mana aspects or picking maximum mana or resource reg just with the abilities in the paragon tree.
I will link his channel and video. He does sacrifice some defense. czcams.com/video/VdEsxvDzqdQ/video.html
Thanks for the guide. I've been looking for an Endgame Chain Lightning Sorc build and this really does the job.
I'm new to games like Diablo, and one of the big surprises for me is the state of the genre's CZcams community. Your videos, on the other hand, have absolutely been a breath of fresh air.
Personally, I find videos about off-meta or themed builds much more interesting than videos that largely overlap with other videos and guides. Even with those, though, I'll appreciate your explanations, tone, and pace over other content creators, but I'd love to see, say, your best shot at making Incinerate work, or a build with *only* Ice skills on your bar (I have a hard time wrapping my head around it, but maybe I'd run Raiment with Teleport Enchantment...).
Dude, that's the youtube game now days. The vids need titles like OP xxx build! to get clicks even though they are copy paste. Bonus points if you have a cringe tile of you with an over exaggerated gesture. As soon as I see a person is just another meta slave unless they grabbed me with good explanation leading me to believe I may learn something new, dislike and move one. Do not watch vids with corny tiles as mentioned above. Makes things a little better, though less also.
If you use the chain lightning aspect and enchantment, as well as bonus cast during your ult, your AOE with chain lightning can be very good. I don't have much mana cost reduction so I need the direct mana from cooldown use.
Thanks for this build. Plan on making a CL PvP build so this video gave me quite a few ideas. I think a CL build will be one of the better sorc ones for PvP due to the options to have both ranged and melee style play versus one or the other. Also, planning to test CL instead of BL that surrounds you for my 100% UC uptime build that uses.... wait for it.... frozen orb enchant for extra vuln and CC lol
Just the kind of build i wanna play. Thanks for the video
You're welcome, enjoy!
The info about the order of the boards is very useful, I did not know that and I was wondering why some of the requirements are so high... You are also the first person to mention it and I have watched a lot of Diablo videos, so thank you very much!
Btw I do not play Sorceress, but it will probably be my second char :)
As some added support, one of the advantages of the boards is you tend to increased your stats quite a bit as you work your way up them, so that extra planning can benefit you allot. also it doesn't hurt to have a monster stat or two on your gear to help out as your building your toon. like the 85 int on the staff I'm using right now. Then as you build your paragon, you can sub out those stats for better things.
I’ve been wanting to do this but with frost burn gloves. Restore mana. Do freeze and stun cc’s and use aspect of control for amplified damage
I'm almost tempted to try this but use the lightning spear enchantment along with the 20% chance to shoot another one on cast aspect instead of ball of lightning. between the amount of crackling energy being dropped and picking up from chain lightning spam, the cdr from overflowing energy reducing cooldowns means you could have a ton of lightning spear on the field (i think..I'd need to test..)
Did it workout?
Interesting to see this build can perform decently well late game. My sorc second char is 58 and I have focused on all shock. I know it's not the strongest but I like that I can easily hit everything on the screen and often beyond. I doubled down on crackling energy to get as much of it as I can and it works well for mana and ability regen. I think it has the best ultimate damage wise.
I am a big fan of themed builds and not the common all defenses and a damage ability builds. There are countless dozens of those builds. People moan about getting one shot at high NM dungeons even with all defenses on their bar. I know it is to get bonus damage from barrier. But if the experience is so miserable might as well play a build you like instead of what's supposedly da bes.
Which enchantment spell do you use? Ball Lightning, Chain, or Spear??
Thanks for video. I think with ring who gain 25 mana per cooldown skill will be much better than chain lightning mana back.
Unstable currents does feel like a shrine buff.
I think they should add a bunch more shrine buffs in the new season
Thanks for the guide!
Chain Light was my favorite sorc skill, it just stuck to me. I was sad to hear they nerfed it into a second class skill, I hope they can at least either bring it back up a bit or add some options to make it a viable end game competitor. Your guide gave me allot of things to think about!
up until now I have been running firebolt and fireball for my enchants to help with clear speed. I'm going to try testing out ball lightning in place of one of those, since It will overall just give me more crackling, but I'm torn between keeping bolt for the guaranteed burning on all mobs, or the fireball for the extra pack clear times (but less burning). I'm still leveling, so I don't have the paragon boards to take full advantage of the burning yet, but using it in conjunction with the burning passive skills helps survivability allot.
I assume Firebolt is one, but what is the second Skill Assignment?
Hi I am a bit confused, how are you stunning enemies without Convulsions?
Nice to see a none ice build, unfortunately we are all stuck to play ice until this overanouced patch comes out
as long as ice is the only sorc of vuln, Ice = only option , becouse Vuln is just King.
@@akhsdenlew1861you can run frost nova with a lightning build
@@smithereenss5840 but then you have to play short ranged...
@@armorvil chain lightning works, im pushing nm 60+ now
I never pick up legendary gear that is lightning or shock specific abilities. Always fireballs this and firewall that... is it yet another bug?
To activate Elementalist Glyph couldn't you just wear the Pertinent greaves which do chill damage? Every time you teleport in the enemies would be standing on your ice path. Boots do provide important defensive skills though so maybe not worth the loss.
Definitely not worth the loss, also as I remember penitent greaves apply chill, but do no do cold damage thus wouldn't activate elementalist.
I've been using a build that I was liking with chain lightning but I'm afraid I either screwed it up or have just hit a wall. I don't like using teleport or frost nova, and haven't been for my entire playtime. I'm currently level 70. I've tried changing my aspects up but somewhere along the line for some reason there are times when I just can't get cracking energy to spawn. My crit chance is over 37% so it should be happening a lot but at times isnt (I regen my mana with orbs, I haven't found many mana cost reduction stats, and I run restore 17 mana on CD skill use). However when I hit my ultimate I always get an insane amount to show up. I run lightning spear, ice armor, flame shield, spark, the ultimate I forget its name, and chain lightning. I used to be able to do ok but recently because I get CCed so often I haven't been doing well. Also, the gear I find is always crap for me to try a different build, that coupled with crazy reroll costs and I feel really stuck. Overall it a crackling energy and chain lighting build I've been trying to get to work.its been fun to use but now I feel almost as if I need to start a new character completely and I don't want too since I don't get a lot of time to play. Any suggestions?
Without teleport you're better off rerolling to a different class. You'll get CC'd to death too frequently.
i wish there weren't so many "close" requirements for lightning sorc,
i like to play a mage as a mage, stay back and hurl the elements from afar,
i wish static surge was just "10 mana when you stun an enemy"
instead of requiring you to be standing right next to them as the squishiest class in the game.
I think stacking all defensive skill is a bit stupid. Can you explain a bit more why you decided to go with that route?
Because the sorcerer is laughably easy to one hit kill in this game. It's taken all the fun out of my crackling energy sorcerer.
Been running an umbral loop (gives 3 mana for each enemy you crowd control) with the ice bolt enchant and hoarfrost passive. Never run oom.
Ive been trying to evangelize this build and no one hears me. Its soo freaking good, once you try this its hard to play anything else. Infinite mana
Do you think it is possible to make a decent build that is focused on crackling energy? I mean actually making use of ceaseless conduit node.
Probably not, at least from my experience. There's not quite enough ways to scale crackling energy damage. Even +82% damage doesn't feel like enough. But if it was buffed, maybe?
I tried this and he is right. Crackling energy damage feels so low , even if you scale it from all your gear the dmg is not even close to a typical lightning build, let alone vulnerability+ice
@@Tenkiei Thx for the reply, fingers crossed!
"SOMETIMES IM STUCK AND I CAN'T MOVE AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENS"
ffs me too, I have narrowed it down to (I think?) If you are mousing over and item or something with a label it kills the continuous mouse input, coupled with server tick = character feels frozen even though you were running just fine before. Kills continuous click input + tiny lag doesn't register even the re-click in time.
The really strange thing is that if I'm Unstoppable from Flame Shield I never get stuck.
Can necks roll 3 devouring and 3 defensives? The dream
It can
Noobie to diablo here, what is the difference between a "lucky hit" vs a "critical hit"?
I'm a week late but "chance for a critical hit" is a chance for a stronger attack, whereas "chance for a lucky hit" increases the chances that the "lucky hit: " effects on your gear or ability tree/paragon boards trigger.
could you post a link to the build written out
I don't have a written guide for this build currently. There will be a guide on Maxroll but I'm not quite sure when it's coming.
Why the hell do i not have the same 2 board for para??? i tryed to rotate it
i thought chain lightning doesn`benefit from attackspeed at all, do i miss something?
Increased Attack speed = faster cast rate
there is no "cast" speed in d4. every skill benefits from attack speed by allowing you to use abilities faster. Since CL is based on regenerating your cooldowns quickly, casting faster not only allows you to survive better, it allows you to burst faster. It only matters for this build (specifically) if you can sustain mana, particularly a high amount. If you can't do that, and you spend a bit of time moving between casts, it's not as valuable. But during times where you can, attack speed synergizes well with everything you're trying to do. More attacks per second, faster cooldown reduction/more crackling energy (therefore) more cooldown reduction therefore more abilities cast. Attack speed isn't a necessity, but if you play a chain lightning with spark basic skill and lightning spear/frost nova enchantments you'll see what I mean. Most times when you pop unstable currents you can spam spark and MURDER everything with high attack speed. It's not about how the skill acts, it's about how fast you're casting SOMETHING.
what about the enchantments did i miss it?
Yep, go back and check the key mechanics
Which sorc build has been the most fun to play for you?
Ice Shards so far, though I'd put Chain Lightning as a surprising second.
i think its hilarious how lightning sorc is built by blizzard as an AOE element ... yet is still not the best at it... it does feel so underpowered imo. but so does meteor.
What enchantments?
Check the key mechanics section, I explain both there.
It's a shame that changing builds in this game is kinda of a pain in the @ss. They should make some skill pages that you can save etc. Same with item sets.
i dontg understand why people dont use spark
this baseskill deals tons of dmg cause it hit ur enemy 4 times and spread to nearby enemy what gives you another chain lighting.
u should give it a try
Spark with a staff hits decently hard if you have very high damage to distant and basic skill damage+ it becomes a great option.
@@chc2650 yes i have that plus a.high Attack Speed enemys melting infront of me :)
How do I get high crit numbers ?
By stacking crowd control effects, and damage multipliers vs crowd controlled targets.
@@Tenkiei oh I was thinking I had to increase crit chance
Increased critical strike chance lets you crit more frequently, but does not increase the damage critical strikes do.
Critical Strike damage is an example of a multiplier that lets you deal higher damage when you crit, but most big numbers in Diablo 4 result from stacking multiple modifiers. For example an immobilized, frozen, stunned enemy. If I have double my normal damage on a critical strike, and an aspect granting me 35% damage against frozen enemies, 40% damage against stunned enemies I would now have; 200% * 2.5 (Devouring Blaze) * 1.35 (Frozen) * 1.4 (stunned) = 945% or nearly 10x my normal (non-crit) damage.
