What is The 2023 Honda Civic Type R Like To Drive?

- A POV of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R. I had never driven one before and these were my initial impressions, I'm impressed by the car, it has a 2L 4cyl engine putting out 315hp with a manual transmission, do you even need more from a car like this?

Unfortunately you missed most of the highlights of this car. It’s FWD versus AWD to keep it lightweight and this cars handling is it’s key ingredient to it’s incredibly fast lap times. While you actually were hoping for some torque steer, Honda went to great engineering lengths to come up with a solution to eliminate it, and it’s dual axis front suspension is the solution. Having a cars power pull it from it’s intended path of direction is never really desirable so eliminating torque steer is important to most driving enthusiasts. That gearbox btw has been praised as one of the best manuals ever, and as I own a 992 GT3 with an incredible manual transmission, I agree that the Type R’s is definitely in the same league. And lastly, the rear spoiler on the car does help it produce actual downforce and is not just a styling trinket as you insinuated it to be. The Civic Type R is literally one of the only cars that I can think of in modern history that has pretty much been over MSRP every single year since it came out in 2017. To me that shows that car enthusiasts appreciate what it is and offers and they see value in what it provides

Another thought I had, the he almost made it sound like the Individual drive mode was its own drive mode. Which it is but is very customizable. You can choose the settings that you like the most. Want the ride firmer? +R mode. Want lighter steering? Comfort mode. Something in the middle for throttle response? Sport mode. Just to name a few.
Yet no hand brake.
@@dav34 yep would be great if it did but wouldn’t let that be deal breaker for you when literally the only 3 manual cars I know that have one are ND Miata, GR Corolla, and BRZ/GR86

The spoiler is for downforce. The car has a max speed of 170mph and is a track weapon. It produces real downforce.

I know it must seem like a toy to you and nothing more. But that little toy would smoke the crap out of your AMG on most any track with more than 4 turns. By a large margin too. Look up the numbers.
Not saying it's a better car, but if you want an affordable, reliable and low cost of ownership sports car that can run with cars 2 -4 times the price, then it's a great value. You're right about the Mustang being a completely different level of vehicle. The Honda is easily level or two more advanced.
If you do a little research, you'll find out that the Civic Type R is faster around the Nurburging than any car you have ever owned. Keep up the good work though!

I just purchased the Integra type s and absolutely love it. The driving experience makes up for the lack of some features at the price. I was going to get a m340i but found the Integra type s to be the better drivers car

Another great vid Mike! Love these type of vids. I used to work for Honda as a mechanic and u pretty much nailed it with everything u said. Civic Type R is a nice car. Obviously not the best car but still a nice car. Gets better with the mods that are out there

It can touch 60 in 2nd gear if you let the engine rev to the redline
That's what I was thinking. If he could drive the car would do it.
He just had to wait until it touched the 7000 rpm redline and then it would touch/get a little higher than 60mph. He shifted a little early from 2nd to 3rd gear in the video.

I looked up MSRP by the VIN: $44,890. Not surprised Moon Ford is asking almost $9k over MSRP for it USED since they were marking up Broncos by almost $30k. Horrible dealership, no wonder they have more 1 star ratings than anything else.

Question: Is the USA version a turbo unit like the UK spec Type R? Also, I have driven our version and sounds a lot better. It's a pity you never looked over the cars buttons like you did the Mustang as would have found the R + button 😂 and had a better first impression.

Why do that when you have a Honda just as capable and with a few mods it could definitely get close to RS3 Horsepower.

I have a 2024 Type R in Sonic grey Pearl and absolutely love it. Btw it appears you didn’t have it in +R mode. It has adaptive suspension so you again adjust the ride also open the exhaust valves and also change steering feelUnless it was individual mode were you can set all those options to your preference so hard to say what mode it’s in.

It's purpose built for the track, not the straight line. That's why it's FWD as well, some rumors about them coming with a AWD version. Rear wing helped breaking records around tracks. Great video though, but you went into it with the wrong mindset, kind of.

The Type R has a bunch of track records for the Nurburgring and Suzuka and some other tracks it’s a dope car. All the parts on it make it functional and a literal legend

You’re right. The PRL front mount intercooler and the BOV are def not stock. It prob has an intake as well and has been tuned and returned to stock prob. Tune wise I mean.

I dig the Honda TypeR. It's the same as the Acura Integra but a think the Acura has more power S Type. Also you are a little rusty on gear selections.

The integra type s got the exhaust proper
The CTR definitely lacks a ton of the bells and whistles that you’re very used to in all the German models that you’ve owned.
But the feature you will get in the CTR is a resale value that’ll easily exceed that of most Euro models not to mention reliability that German makes can’t approach.
