Nobody talks about all of the extra cleaning oil diffusion creates. Windows and mirrors show it first, but it can also damage upholstery, plastics, paint, and nearly every surface including marble and artificial stone by depositing a greasy film that attracts dirt and dust and then breaks down into rancid compounds.
In response to Mike Cartwright's comment - One of the reasons humidifying diffusers "fail" is because they are overfilled. I always fill mine to BELOW the fill line and I have never had an issue. When I fill them up to the fill line I start to have problems with them turning off. I hope this helps. A really high quality humidifying diffuser would be something like the Aroma Lite. It's a dōTERRA brand diffuser.
I love my Doterra petal ultrasonic diffuser. I have had it for over 3.5 years and use it pretty much daily and it’s still going great. I love the even mist. I also have the dōTERRA aroma lite diffuser on my nightstand....and that’s another great one.
great video. after much researching i decided to order a victsing 300 ml from amazon. works great. very quiet. very attractive. will easily handle a large bedroom. will run for up to ten hours. really nice light ring with 7 colors which is nice at bedtime.
Kristina I usually tag people in my comments when I'm responding to them but it wouldn't let me tag you, so I'm also forwarding this to you in a message, hopefully you see it! :) My favorite ultrasonic diffuser is the Aroma Lite. It can run for up to 8 hours which is quite long for an ultrasonic. It also has an optional light and it is quite small and can be packed away anywhere.
I have tried a few different diffusers and I love the Ace Diffuser (the first one in the video, for those who aren't sure). I like it because it's very easy for me to travel with since it doesn't need any water. That being said, I also really love the Aroma Lite diffuser (which is a humidifying diffuser that uses water). I have a large house so I have two of them. I like that I can just throw in a couple drops and turn it on. And it is much easier to make custom blends by simply putting in a drop or two of a couple different essential oils. Great video, Joanna!
Maegan Silva That is one thing I forgot to mention about the humidifying diffusers, it is easy to mix different oils together for your own diffuser blends. Maegan do you make your own blends in old essential oil bottles for your ACE diffuser?
Joanna Banana Strawberry I have done it, but because it requires an additional step and more oil overall, I tend not to make my own blends for the Ace. I think because I have to refill the water in the humidifying diffuser periodically, it seems like less work to mix my own blends (even though it isn't actually less work!). Besides that, if I want to try an experimental blend, I only have to use a couple drops of each in a humidifying diffuser whereas I would need several of each in the Ace.
What a fantastic video. I am trying to get into oils and seems youtube is clogged up with people trying to push brands. This was very helpful. Thank you!
+Joanna Banana Strawberry The Whisper Diffuserer has the separate soft cup insert, where you put the oil & water, while the bottom just contains water. Concerned about that soft plastic material, + cleaning & replacing.
Exceptional video! Clear, specific, to the point getting the ultra sonic diffuser. Thank you for so eloquently and succintly explaining the diffusers available. Subscribed
Cool vid. Thanks for sharing your experience. I just had my candlewarmer go out on me so I need a new one. I wanted to experiment with some different ideas. The short version is that I thought it would be a great idea to put a battery-operated candlewarmer on my porch to get rid of bugs. Welp... I have not had any luck locating one. The next idea was a battery operated diffuser. So far no luck locating one specifically designed for outside. I am going to keep looking. My nebulizer, the exact same one that you showed in your video, is a beast! I love it! Buuuuuuuuuut it is extremely loud! So I am looking for a 24 hour ultrasonic to replace it. The nebulizer is almost perfect, it is just entirely too loud! I wanted to buy more, but for starters definitely price prohibitive and I see your point about running through oils. I did not think it would be this hard to find a diffuser specifically designed to sit outside and weather the storm. In either case, thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.
been looking for a video like this for two days.. finally, i found it. thank you so much for breaking this down!! which one is your favorite ultrasonic diffuser?
I love the ultrasonic petal difuser by doterra, my parents recently bought a kit of oils that include this difuser, and it works very well! I put breathe in it every night when I'm sick to help with the congestion.
Malia Engle I haven't tried the petal diffuser yet but I have heard great things about it. Breathe is a great oil when you're sick, I'm glad it has been helpful for you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. GREAT UNDERSTANDABLE EXPLANATIONS. I HAVE A MOLD PROBLEM. I DON'T THINK MORE MOISTURE IN THE AIR WOULD BE GOOD FOR THAT ISSUE. I HAVE TOXIC MOLD ILLNESS. WOULD A NEBULIZING DIFFUSER BE GOOD FOR MY HEALTH AS WELL AS MY ENVIRONMENT ? WONDERFUL VIDEO. THANX FOR THE INFO. GOD BLESS YOU. 💝.
Hi Bobbi, the amount of water vaporized from an ultrasonic diffuser is negligible, but with a nebulizing diffuser it would assure no more moisture in the air. Some essential oils can kill mold spores, so putting essential oils in the air with a diffuser might remove airborne mold. The only real way to take care of a mold problem is to get out of your house. Essential oils will only mask the problem and you will likely continue to have health issues even if using them. That being said, they would be good to use in the interim until you are able to take care of the mold issue. Good luck to you! Blessings, Joanna
Great!! review I am looking to purchase a diffuser soon and your review helps in my decision making. I am leaning toward the ultrasonic diffuser. I will be back to let you know how it turn out. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you +Joanna Banana Strawberry. After going through about 10 videos finally found one that's best best by far. Very informative & clear review for newbies like me. Keep up the good work. Liked & Subscribed to your channel.
Can someone tell me how much mist the Ultrasonic diffurers create? My room is very humid and can easily get molds on the walls if I'm not careful, I really like the benefits of this diffuser, so much easier to use than the traditional candle ones (which I have currently) but it looks like from the video they create a lot of mist. Is there maybe a type that works similarly but doesn't humidify the room at the same time?
Great video the most helpful I have found on explaining the types and differences of diffusers. I want to buy my first diffuser and I would like to know if there is a real difference between putting the oil directly into the water or into a cup as it is with the whisper from aroma tools, Also would love your opinion about the young living diffuser that looks like a rose and the do terra one if you could somehow review the differences between them.
+MsLILICARO I am in your place, as well, -looking at the Whisper Diffuser. Not thrilled with those soft plastic replacement cups, yet they are purposed to prevent clogs, so can use any oil.
When you say top notes evaporate first and then the others in the evaporative and low heat diffuser, are you talking about the notes of one essential oil or a blend? Also, like in perfumes, isn't it a good thing that the notes come up at different times?
I'm talking about the notes of one essential or a blend of essential oils. Regardless of whether it's one essential oil or a blend of them, they will each have top notes which will always evaporate first. In a perfume, yes it's quite lovely when they evaporate at different times, but if you're using essential oils therapeutically, some say that the components (notes) work better as a whole, synergistically. To get the whole effect of the oil at once is thought to be better from a therapeutic perspective.
@@joannabananaberry Hmm yeah, but people usually suggest to make blends of at least one essential oil with top note, one with middle and another with base note. Are they all supposed to be in the air together? Isn't the whole purpose of using different notes is that they evaporate at different times?
what a great video!! you really helped me on figuring out what's what!! I have been reading and I've researched so many articles about Diffusers I was confused.. you really helped me out. I'm looking to by one but want one that has more coverage and not just my room.. could you tell me which one you would buy?
Hi I was wondering if I can use another oil right after another? I used peppermint the whole day, and now it's night time and I was thinking if I can now use lavender? The peppermint scent is not that strong anymore. I was just wondering if it will produce any negative effect on my system. Thank you very much!
+leslie dominic It depends on what you want to happen. If you want a gentle diffuser to fill a smaller space then an ultrasonic diffuser is awesome (check the links in the video description to find an affordable one on Amazon). If you want to fill a larger space quickly then a nebulizing diffuser would be best.
Joanna, we just purchased a new home that is awesome except for the not so lovely aroma of cat urine. We've cleaned and scrubbed and done all the right things but it still lingers. My aunt gave us some thieves oil and we diluted it and sprayed it in those areas and it worked very well but seems to only be temporary. She thought we might have success if we used a diffuser in the problem areas and that it would cleanse those areas permanently over time. What are your thoughts on this and if applicable, what would be the best type of a diffuser? Also, have you ever known anyone to successfully replace the oil in those Airwick or Glade plugin diffusers with essential oil? Thanks - Dick
Thanks for the video. With the supersonic defuser do you use a fan or similar to disperse the vapour somehow? I'm finding the supersonic defuser is not filling the room very well.
Great video! From what I understand, given the mechanism, there can't be an ultrasonic diffuser with glass/ceramic interior, am I right? Does the fact that the recipient is made out of plastic hinder the therapeutic proprieties of the oils?
I am not sure if there are any diffusers made of ceramic or glass. The plastic in the diffusers is a safe plastic to use that won't leech into the diffuser water.
@@joannabananaberry Thank you for your answer! From what I searched, I did not find any, indeed. Bought a plastic ultrasound diffuser and I am satisfied with it.
about heat diffusors. i have a hand made candle heated amethyst diffusor where you place water in and then 1 or 2 drops of oil on top of the water. would that improve the therapeutic properties of the evaporated oils as oppose to what you explained?
+Daniel Cannata Since it will still be heating the essential oil, it will still have the same effect, the whole essential oil will not be in the air at the same time, the lighter molecules will evaporate first, then the heavier ones later.
hi joanna ^^ i have a question please, i recently bought an aroma burner which has a small bulb inside as a heater, and tried to put drops of oil alone once and it didn't work ,then tried putting water before adding the oil and waited a couple of hours and no result seen! what could the problem be?? .. could it be designed for wax oils only? as the heat produced by the bulb is too weak to cause evaporation to the water ??
Do you happen to know of any humidifiers that you can safely add essential oils to? I didn't notice the warning sticker on my Homedics humidifier saying not to add essential oils, and now it leaks. And if not, do you know of any large sized ultrasonic/humidifying diffusers? Any recommendations of something I can buy easily at like a Bed Bath and Beyond or a similar store?
Kras3169 I don't know of any humidifiers that you are able to add essential oils to the water. In the cases I've heard of, this really damages the units. Some humidifiers have a little tray that is meant for vicks vapor rub type stuff, that the steam passes over as it leaves the humidifier, and you are able to add essential oils to this. I have done this in the past, though it's not the best way to diffuse oils! An essential oil diffuser would really be your best option.
Have you had reliability problems with the water/vaporizer style? My nebulizer style is now over 25 years old and like NEW. But wanted to try a newer water-vaporizer type but find humidifier styles fail constantly according to Amazon reviews. Any suggestions on a RELIABLE unit?
from wich company is yours? I would recoment a Young Living Defuser- if you message on " simi.jaskolla@gmx.de " i can give you more information and also 24% sale opportunity if you are interested
+dj458 dj458 I have not heard of ones with a cup insert, but I'm curious about them now, is there a specific brand? I haven't had any trouble with clogged diffusers before. In your experience which diffuser type tends to clog?
+Joanna Banana Strawberry The Whisper Diffuserer DOES have a SEPARATE soft CUP insert. It is suppose to prevent clogging that I hear - some of the oils, produce -(& told not to use)
I am looking into using oils in my practice, and was wondering about placement of the diffuser and how it affects the aroma in the room. We take care of children so we need to find a place where they wont mess with the diffuser. I've been recommended to use the AromaLite to address my concerns of a larger space (the office is 1900 sq.). However, would using the AromaLite at a higher level prevent the aroma or therapeutic effects from penetrating the room? Is a nebulizer a better option in this case?
Dr. Jessica Harden For that many square feet I would suggest a nebulizing diffuser. It will disperse the oil through the room a lot better than the AromaLite could. But, if it's just in a waiting room that is only a small portion of the 1900 sq ft then you can probably get away with just the AromaLite.
In reality organic essential oils are not always the best. How do you know this? Quality of oils is determined by scientific testing called GCMS , gas chromatography and mass spectometry. These are two machines that test oils as to quality. I will talk on another blog as to how this equipment works, but for now organic oils often do not qualify for premium using these tests. How can organic oils not be premium or the best? You need a fundamental understanding of what essential oils are. The best quality oils are produced by plants under stress. Oils grown in the wild tend to test high for this reason. When you use organic methods, the plants tend not to be stressed. I call them happy plants. Essential oils are made by the plant to defend against attack, disease, damage, or severe weather conditions. Most evergreens produce high levels of essential oils, as they do not have a time of rest and recovery. Because organic oils come from happy plants and not stressed ones, they do not need to make high quality essential oil, as the plant does not need it. If you are buying organic essential oils, ask if the oil meets premium or therapeutic levels. The organic oil you are buying may be a great oil, but the organic label does not tell you that. The point can be made that organic oils do not have pesticide residue. Most plants that produce essential oils have the ability to defend against pests and do not need pesticides, but this is not always the case. Sometimes growers will have fungal outbreaks and will use chemicals. There is not a grower alive that would spend the money on pesticides and then cut the plant material and distill it. If the plant has been sprayed, there is only chemical residue left and it will not distill. These chemicals being larger molecules will be left behind with the plant material. Essential oils are small molecules and they can float in the air or evaporate.
Rajan Amin Any ultrasonic diffuser should scent a room that big, just add 5 drops to the water reservoir. If it doesn't saturate the air like you'd like, I would go for the nebulizing diffuser.
Joanna Banana Strawberry Thanks Joanna. If I go with a nebulizer, can I mix a little water to make the oil last longer or would that just defeat the purpose and result in no smell?
Rajan Amin Adding water to the essential oil might ruin a nebulizing diffuser. I would just adjust the timer and intensity settings so that it's not running very hard for very long at a time. 15 minutes on, per hour, is a good guide to go by.
+niet mijn echte naam I would fill up your ultrasonic diffuser to just below the fill line and then add between 3-5 drops depending on the size of your room. I usually do 3 since the room I'm diffusing in is on the small side.
Hi Joanna, would you please share the link of your favorite one? When I looked up on Amazon, they show a thousand, but none of them was aroma lite. thanks!
ana paula reis I just realized you asked for the link to the Aroma Lite!! Not the Aroma Ready. Whoops! The Aroma Lite is a dōTERRA brand diffuser that you can purchase through a consultant. I am a dōTERRA consultant, and you can find out how to purchase oils and diffusers through me by visiting my website here: joannabananaberry.com/essential-oils/
Hi! Great video! 😊 what do you think, what would happen if I put Fanta or other sugary drinks into a ultrasonic diffuser? Would my room smell like fanta? Thanks!
+Joanna Banana Strawberry Hi, I dont know! I am just learning about this. I want to buy a diffuser, but the more videos I watch the more confused I get. I cant afford an expensive one. So, it is not good to put the oils straight into the water only if it is a humidifier? But, if its a cool mist we can put the oils straight into the water? Is this correct? Also, how do we know if the device is a cool mist or not?
+CMV Robison If it's called a humidifier then don't put essential oils in it, even if it says it's a cool mist one! The essential oils can potentially ruin the humidifier. Only use essential oils in a diffuser. A diffuser is specifically made for essential oils. The "humidifying" diffuser is a diffuser that puts out a mist in order to disperse the essential oils into the air, but it's nowhere near how much steam is put out from a humidifier. So, it depends on what you want to do - if you want to diffuse an essential oil, you need a diffuser, and if you want to humidify the air, you'll need a humidifier. You can use both at the same time, but not together :)
+Joanna Banana Strawberry Joanna, you are so kind to answer my questions. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! During flu season, all my children's rooms (I have 4 children) always have cool mist humidifiers on all night. But, I know about the power of essentials oils. So, I also want to add diffusers in their rooms, I just dont know which one to get. There are so many different kinds, and the prices vary too much. I am leaning towards an ultrasonic, but even that varies so much in prices. A lot of these diffusers have led colored lights, which is exactly what my children do not want. They want to sleep in dark rooms with no light (me too). Anyway, my research goes on.......
I have had first hand experience with the Aromis aromatherapy diffuser. also known as Orbis Nox Merus. This diffuser gives off a "burnt" essential oil smell that is nauseating. I watched all of there "how to" videos, bought their signature oil to use with it, and read the instructions top to bottom before I even attempted to get started...very poor results. I have contacted the company to return it so we'll see what happens. It was very expensive, over $100.
Essential oil smells are very personal. I make my own mixes using only pure essential oils, not mixes. I mix my own. It may be the Aromis "signature oil" that is nauseating. Read up on essential oil recipes and try making your own. Experiment until you find what you love. It's easy ! Bless you.

@@winicot Glad to hear it!
wouldn't it be bad to use tap water like you did?
Nice
The name diffusor in the movie amazon .... in Italy.....???? ₩please
about heat diffusors. i have a hand made candle heated amethyst diffusor where you place water in and then 1 or 2 drops of oil on top of the water. would that improve the therapeutic properties of the evaporated oils as oppose to what you explained?
+Daniel Cannata Since it will still be heating the essential oil, it will still have the same effect, the whole essential oil will not be in the air at the same time, the lighter molecules will evaporate first, then the heavier ones later.
hi joanna ^^
i have a question please,
i recently bought an aroma burner which has a small bulb inside as a heater, and tried to put drops of oil alone once and it didn't work ,then tried putting water before adding the oil and waited a couple of hours and no result seen!
what could the problem be?? .. could it be designed for wax oils only? as the heat produced by the bulb is too weak to cause evaporation to the water ??
+Leen Hdaib That would be my guess! I bet it's supposed to work with waxes.
What brands would you recommend purchasing for a beginner like myself?
There is a link in the video description to a good diffuser from Amazon :)
How about one that wont clog up, that has a cup insert?
+dj458 dj458 I have not heard of ones with a cup insert, but I'm curious about them now, is there a specific brand? I haven't had any trouble with clogged diffusers before. In your experience which diffuser type tends to clog?
If you use citris it could foul up.
+Joanna Banana Strawberry The Whisper Diffuserer DOES have a SEPARATE soft CUP insert. It is suppose to prevent clogging that I hear - some of the oils, produce -(& told not to use)
You can google and find out more.
+Dr. Jessica Harden Make sure you are using only 100% ORGANIC oils..........
Are there any ultrasonic diffusers which can scent a room that is 700 sq ft? If not, how about 500 sq ft?
So I'm a college student, and my room sometimes gets pretty messy and so the air becomes stuffy and unpleasant... Will diffusers help with that?
+1995a1995z Yes it can help with unpleasant odors. For the stuffiness I would just open windows!
thank you!
i just got an ultrasonic one, how many drops of oil do you recommend per 100ml of water?
+niet mijn echte naam I would fill up your ultrasonic diffuser to just below the fill line and then add between 3-5 drops depending on the size of your room. I usually do 3 since the room I'm diffusing in is on the small side.
Hi Joanna, would you please share the link of your favorite one? When I looked up on Amazon, they show a thousand, but none of them was aroma lite. thanks!
Sure! You can find it on the Aromatools website here: www.aromatools.com/Aroma_Ready_Oil_Drop_Diffuser_p/9350.htm
thank you!!!
ana paula reis I just realized you asked for the link to the Aroma Lite!! Not the Aroma Ready. Whoops! The Aroma Lite is a dōTERRA brand diffuser that you can purchase through a consultant. I am a dōTERRA consultant, and you can find out how to purchase oils and diffusers through me by visiting my website here: joannabananaberry.com/essential-oils/
ok, thanks, Joanna!
+Joanna Banana Strawberry - - this site is 404 not found.
Wanted to get a description of The Aroma Lite.
Do you have to shake the water and the oil for the ultrasonic diffuser?
Nope, just put them in :-)
Thanks!!
What vibration frequency do you recommend?
Hi! Great video! 😊 what do you think, what would happen if I put Fanta or other sugary drinks into a ultrasonic diffuser? Would my room smell like fanta? Thanks!
I hope you were kidding when you said that. Cause that is a really bad idea.
I was told never to put the oils straight into the water! Im confused!!
+CMV Robison Are you thinking of a humidifier?
+CMV Robison Also, there's a link to an affordable diffuser from Amazon in the description of the video if you're looking for one! :)
It's easy ! Bless you.
I’m about to buy one on Etsy from Aromis. Did the problem ever get resolved. I’m wondering if I use different brands it will work.
UncleKt I have one going on 4 years and love it.
None! Oil diffusers are bad for your lungs, and coat everything in your room with oil.
