Run your signal generator on a repeating sweep and play it thru that new speaker for about 6 hours at volume. When you're not home... That'll break the spider and surround in. Alternative: play the radio thru it for 6 hours at volume.
Another solution to becoming bored with your amp sounds is an EQ in the fx loop. Mod the Boss for noise, the buffer saves sparkle plus you can use the gain slider to push your output stage further. Its a lot of fun!
I took some time to look at breaking in speakers. I kind of thought in the end that i'll leave it as is for now and measure the response again at a later date maybe in a year or so and check the progress after everyday use. And also not risk me making a mistake and ruining the voice coil hahaha.
Speakers are definitely a big influence on the sound but the speaker cab is also a big influence. Open back or closed back, the size, the depth and the material of the cabinet. Some Marshall and Mesa cabs are expensive because of these right combinations.
Yeah 100%. I have some more comparisons testing exactly that coming very soon! Thanks for the great info!
I actually preferred the sound of your 50W speaker. Keep in mind that the 25 Watt speaker will break up and sound massively different on a 50 Watt head, due to the fact that it's already running double as hard as the 50 would at same volume levels, essentially overdriving the speaker
Fantastic result! Watching just on my iPhone as I’m not at studio at moment and the difference in harshness was super noticeable given the midrange focus of the phone speakers. Cool video, now time to make a sub kick out of that speaker you took out :)
Hahahahha you read my mind! I have a video very soon where I’ll be doing exactly that. Maybe many sub kicks!
I feel like I’m the only person on the planet that just doesn’t care for the Greenback.
Judging by the amount of speakers available on the market these days, I’d say you’re not alone.
You can definitely do worse to my ears, but I like the modern Creambacks a lot more.
You're not.
I really only like them in a 2x12 with a similar wattage rating alnico, or a 2 & 2 4x12.
I'm a greenback fan..but. I actually preferred the sound of your 50W speaker... It was clearer, yet still warm and smooth... Maybe it sounds different in the room, which is so different than the close mic.
