I'm paraphrasing, but he something like "the Irish belt is more important me". I saw him talking about it years ago in an old piece of footage. So he may be born, bred in the UK. But he knows where his roots are at. It's why he always wears green shorts, or mixed with green and green gloves. Just sayin.
