DF is the GrayStillPlays of 2019 to 2021 and I'm all here for it.
Wood is such an important resource. Without a biome trees don’t grow, so the people on the outer ring can’t build houses or anything, so they don’t have space for more population, they can’t make food and are constantly starving. This makes expanding impossible. If no one had initially chosen the sand (wich turns to a beach or desert biome automatically depending on the distance to water), no one would ever reached more than 15 population and no one would have made a new village, so no one would have reached the resources in the middle. If that had happened you could have watched hours of people sitting in tents, waiting for someone to starve and having a new baby to fill the free tent of the dead guy. Their technology would develop to the max level, but this would only make them a little bit stronger and allow them to build streets between their tents helping them to move a little bit faster while doing nothing.
You installed a mod for turbo speed? The game already had that, you just gotta unlock it in the setting by clicking the floating burger a few times and going in and out of the menu until the green icon pop up at the top right.
Then you can click on it and select turbo, which is 40x speed.
Or you can hold left control and use the scroll wheel past 5x.

I'm not suprised but it's nothing new. The world we are living in is exactly like that except that it isn't a game!
One example might be carnivores and vegans they'll never agree and they're both right about their causes. Ideally, it would be wonderful if we could all eat Meat or not, and nothing ever had to suffer and die to that end. But suffering is what we're good at!! Creating suffering is especially easy ...especially when we can do it all remotely and without ever feeling a damned thing one or another about it. We are siners not because we sin but because it is our nature to sin! Not being evil is just too unnatural for us!! Short of Divine intervention we will always do what comes natural to us and that's usally a hearty 'Fuck you' to the world. At their expense, of course!
