I was cynical to start, but yeah that is awesome and a massive upgrade to the veneer and I've always loved the IronGear pick ups.
Thanks. I really like IronGear pickups as well, they sound great for the money
I love that you made it your own! Great job!
Cardboard on the band-saw was very clever. Nicely done!
I was actually thinking of doing the same thing with a Chinese Strandberg kit. Hoping to do this soon enough as I’ve never built a guitar before and would love to make my own especially as a Strandberg style guitar. Your design really gives me more of a motivation to do so. Your design is amazing.
My one gripe: I know it's not super important, but the vid volume is really low. Not that the audio matters aside from your speaking bits, but going forward I think it'd be great.
Really loved the build, crazy inspiring
it wasn't low for me
That copper is lovely. I think brass rivets and pickup covers would have looked better. but lovely job overall.
Looks awesome dude! love the copper plate
Thanks!
You are so talented and creative. Hey when I see someone so young and hardworking it is inspiring.
Oh hey I wish I could have long hair like you. When I was young I did but it scares me when I see you around power tools that your hair could get entangled in and hurt you. . .might wanna consider a safe way keep it. Even a silly drill could give a yank and hope nothing ever happen like that.
Enuff old man advice...just had to put my hand built project on hold and come write to you . Keep those great videos rollin
Don’t be ashamed, it is wise advice you are giving :)
Awesome. Looking forward to the next one!
Next video will be up around the end of the month, so stay tuned!
This is so good!
great job. Also, using epoxy and then poly urethane was quite interesting.
Thanks, appreciate the feedback.
thanks, I just found your channel...fricken great work..appreciate you sharring your work.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support
I have a weird question, how long is the finished product?
Great video! Thanks for posting! Can you tell me scale length for the E and the small E?
It's 25.5 inch on the low E, 24.75 on the high E
@@horsefighter_69 thanks a lot!
Man, I really liked the result. If I get a "simplier" guitar like a strato or a tele, seens easier to get good results
That's true, the bridge system is a little more complicated than a strat or tele, and with a tele you won't have problems with the arm contour like i had
What is the spray you are putting on the copper to give it that look? Build looks awesome.
I use ammonia vapors, vinegar and salt. You seal it with clear coat afterwards. There are some tutorials out there, but be careful, it's a dangerous process
I'm waiting for my Chinese Steinberger (Chynberger?) from DHGate to arrive to me in the US. It's been going back and forth in China for the past 10 days. I wonder if I'll ever get it. How are those Chinese tremolos? I'm wondering if there's a way to retro fit a Floyd Rose type on the body. I'm guessing some wood need to be added and then some new holes drilled.
The stock tremolo systems are alright, they stay in tune ok if you don't abuse them. Fitting a Floyd Rose is not super difficult, you'll have to put some wood back in, and then route out everything as usual.
How does this copper tek work
Have not seen anyone use a riveter on a guitar build before before ~ that sure was smart.
Thank you
Woah. Didn't expect Blue to Blue here. Talented dude with good taste.
Thanks man
You are scary talented.
Thank you, I appreciate it
Will the bridge hold tuning when we abuse it like flyod rose, if not how can we upgrade it?
Good question. Upgrading would be very difficult, but the stock bridge is pretty good.
@@horsefighter_69lets just say we need to replace, there is a brand name hipshot headless bridge, I guess it might fit here, not sure. I wish to buy this diy kit and upgrade the pickups & bridge.
@@MusicTutorJay You can try, to replace the bridge you'd have to remove the post and fill them in, and you can then fit the new bridge
What liquids did you use for the colors? I only can see white vinegar
It's white vinegar, salt and ammonia. You pour the ammonia in the container to vaporize, then you pour salt and vinegar on top of the copper.
I hope you have figured out by now to use vacuum bags when doing veneers, this will let you shape it around the contours.
Very good
Wow, nice video what a great result. Thinking of doing something similar to this as a budget project. Did you use the neck that came with the set?
Yeah, the neck is surprisingly good. It's real roasted maple, just level the frets and redo the nut, and you'll have a great playing guitar
@@horsefighter_69 Thanks dylan, keep up the great work!
do you have an artist/title for that second song?
That's Speed Run by CloudNone
One-handed router and a guitar body not attahed to the table... Do you still have all fingers?
Lol, yes I do. That Festool router I'm using can be used one-handed. And the guitar body doesn't have to be attached to the table necessarily. It helps though, but with something small like a guitar body clamping it down is kind of inconvenient
YESSS DYLAN IS BACK!
It took me a while, but I'm going to try and upload once a month.
@@horsefighter_69 I’m proud! Just don’t stress yourself out with it though. You and your personal life is more important than youtube. Always take care of you first! I’m excited to be getting more videos though. Post notifications are on!!!
Pretty nice end-product overall. I would have used copper or brass rivets or fasteners instead of aluminum. A little polish with a Dremel tool would have complemented the copper top better. An epoxy adhesive might have better secured down the copper top when combined with wood clamps until completely dry and might have negated the need for rivets/fasteners entirely, but I did like the bit of "steam-punk" look it gave it. What chemical mixture was used to get the aesthetic effect on the copper top? Headless Ormsby Goliath multi-scale fanned fret guitar models, (I forget which run), came with similar chemically oxidized copper tops. Was that your inspiration? Aesthetically, you pretty much nailed it, sound-wise? Meh! The tone was pretty badly off, but short of a different pickup choice, I'd be hard-pressed to narrow down the reasons for its short-comings. It was a brave effort though, and with some more time you might re-visit the project and refine away its faults. In any event, there is no way I could part with it in its current state. Guess I'm too much of a perfectionist.
could you do me the favor of sending me the link of the guitar kit, I can't find it
They don't sell this specific one anymore, I can't seem to find one with an EndurNeck anywhere
@@horsefighter_69 I was looking for one with the bridge that your model has, but I can't find anything, if you see something please let me know, and thank you very much for the support!
the neck is the endureneck?
Yes
Sick
Great vid! Thinking of getting one of these, hardtail version tho. How were the frets on this straight out the box? Kit guitars seem to be a bit all over the place when it comes to frets
It's pretty good, my particular kit only has one low spot around the 2nd and 3rd frets of the E and A strings. The rest is all good.
I still would worry about cutting myself on some part of the guitar at some point.
Nice work would you be willing to build these for other people?
Absolutely, if you're seriously interested in a build, you can contact me via Instagram DM
16:44 is that a regulation zip tie ? Gotta carve into the nut a bit more so you don't need the zip tie.
Yeah, I temporarily used a zip tie, but after some more adjusting it was fine
I cant find this kit anymore :(
I’ve looked all over the internet but I can’t find it anymore either. There is a very similar headless kit on Etsy
@@horsefighter_69 I really need the two point trem. I want to switch out a for a hipshot. I guess I'll just have to break out the router.
@tommcmasters That’s probably a better idea. A Hipshot trem won’t fit without modifications, so you’re better off routing everything from scratch
what is this that you replaced veneer and where did you find it with color ready?
It's a sheet of copper. I put that color on it myself, but since the process to do it is kind of dangerous, I decided not to show it on camera. It involves chemicals like ammonia, which is very bad for your lungs if you breathe in its vapors. I might make a tutorial about it in the future, but I'll have to include some disclaimers.
@@horsefighter_69 wow..its beautiful....I would like to see more stuff from you..I will subscribe
Thanks, I appreciate it. There's a new video coming soon.
Wow..keren ist good job
What's the name of the music playing in the background of your video...it's beautiful...
At what timestamp?
@@horsefighter_69 It starts at about 6: 30...and go on...man it's pretty
@@horsefighter_69 The piece of music starts at about 6:29 and concludes at about 11551...man it's very pretty. Give me a name if you can...thank you in advance.
That song is called Glacier, by Birch View
@@horsefighter_69 thanks man i got it saved to my phone. The music is so imaginative...Bad!!! You're doing a hell of a job on that copy. I take of my hat to your skills man!! By the way i bought a chinese made Strandberg headless tryin it out to see if i like headless...fror $300.00 not a bad buy. All my guitars are USA made out of the 8, but if i take to this Chinese replica im gonna get me an original Strandberg. Thanks again my friend.
Can you reupload your audio is so quiet.
May i ask is the neck the endure type neck?
Yup, it's a .Strandberg* copy, and it does include the Endurneck profile
@@horsefighter_69 ah ok tq.. getting itchy fingers.. does it really feel more comfortable to play? Vs normal C shaped necks?
It takes like 10 minutes to get used to, but it's probably my most played guitar now. Definitely very comfortable to play.
@@horsefighter_69 ok thank you very much for your reply..
Elitist be like: you didnt build it you sped it up
Could you pls give me a link to the kit?
They don't make the trem version anymore, here's a hard-tail version: a.aliexpress.com/_BP1t1l
@@horsefighter_69 i've seen that one. So bad. I need a trem version. Do you think they might made me one if i ask them? They have tremolo models assembled, and also 20$ extra custom option so it might work maybe?
@@MicHiiX01 I would message the seller and ask, they'll usually do it for you. Just beware that they'll have to make it in the factory which usually takes a couple of weeks. And watch out for fake tracking numbers, sometime they'll try and screw you over
@@horsefighter_69 I will! I am not worried about time at all. I can w8 even 6 months. I am designing my own headless tremolo prototype and just need something reasonably priced i can test it out.
@@MicHiiX01 Alright, good luck
How much did u pay for it man?
It was like €300, but with all the upgrades it's around €500
Who knows what the veneer would have looked like with oil or a clear coat on it after it was finish sanded???
The veneer was so thin, finish sanding probably wouldn't have been possible
LOUDER!
Would you recommend this DIY kit without any expertise as luthier ?
also, how much did it cost in custom fees?
I paid like €50 in custom fees. I honestly would not recommend this one, take the hard-tail instead, the bridge is tricky to figure out if you don't have a lot of experience with floating trems
Very nice, where did you get that top ? o.O
It’s a sheet of copper, and I used a bunch of chemicals to make it look like that
@@horsefighter_69 can i ask you what kind of chemicals you used ? :) thanks
@OverloadGuitars Crimson Guitars has a really good video about it. I used ammonia vapour, salt and vinegar
@@horsefighter_69 super nice, thanks, i will check him out
How is the tremolo?
I like it, takes some time to set up, but once you have it balanced it works fine
@@horsefighter_69 stays in tune well?
@@michaelkorn361 Yeah, not bad at all considering the price
@@horsefighter_69 so getting a Mountain and fixing it + switching electronics and pickups to bkp will be better than a boden standard with trem?
@@michaelkorn361 I don't know, I like the Boden trem a lot too, and it's probably better. But you're looking at a conpletely different price range then.
Can you make me a custom guitar?
Yep, DM me and we'll talk
Why those hideous dots?
You mean the hideous entire veneer
Next time use copper rivets to match
aumente mais o volume de gravação.
I think the wood looked WAY better than whatever ugly mettle was bolted to the top. That was a lot of work for more added weight and a worse look in my opinion.
The veneer may have looked alright on camera, but it looked quite bad IRL
Lost me at the rivets
lol at rivets. Not a pleasant sight at all.
Gift me 🤣🤣
Why don't you wear a mask when you spray? just an observation!
The place is well ventilated, but I probably should still wear one.
Заебись!!!!
not a fan of the rivets
You'd rather have made the guitar from scratch. Possibly you do that.
Probably, but tracking down all the hardware for a headless guitar is easier said than done. Especially back then, it was impossible to find
@@horsefighter_69 Now it's easy. Several people have done it.
Copper top with an epoxy finish ? You , my friend , are a glutton for punishment. Why pick such a labor intensive finish ?
I'd have gone with a fabric top ( no rights ) and 4 K finish. But I respect your choices.
Eh, rivets made me cringe a little cus it's wood but whatever ;)
