I have heard so many different covers of so many different songs by soo many different artists. Sometimes, the original is better, sometimes the cover is better. But this cover, but this young lady, this is my absolute favorite cover of any song by any artist I have ever heard. Grace Vanderwaal has just flat out knocked this one out of the park! Just an amazingly, beautifully, soulful, breathtakingly wonderful cover by the most amazing singer I have ever had the honor of hearing. Just WOW!

What in the world is happening here? You have a 13 y/o girl, with the poise of a seasoned veteran performer, singing gospel, no less, bringing up the deepest of emotions from her heart and soul, and making the shivers go up and down my spine. She is so totally absorbed in the song... her voice with all the texture and "rasp" set free with no restraint and no constraints. As much as I love Grace, it never would have occurred to me that this blue-eyed girl could handle a song like this... but here's the proof that she can do it, and do it incredibly well. ...my favorite cover of hers.
Grace is a wonderful enigma and, thankfully, always will be!! We who have found Grace are the fortunate people on this planet!

I have to agree. I have seen this now a hundred times and it hits me harder eavh time. I have listened to the original and this performance is miles above that.
One night I was snooping around CZcams and came across this video of a little girl on AGT in goofy yellow pants with a ukulele and with a smirk thought "this may be interesting" and began to listen. I have been in and out of the music business as a musician and engineer for over 40 years. I have followed a great many obscure and virtual unknown artists throughout my years.
There are very few prodigies I have seriously been impressed with. She is one of the best I've ever seen. After listening to her playing an original for her audition on AGT, "I Don't Know My Name" I found myself welling up with tears. something that nearly never happens.
I began hunting around for anything else of Grace's. I found more than I expected.
While on AGT she played only her original songs. Her lyrics are short and to the point and hold a great deal of power. Her songs come from a heart that gushes with a pure innocence beyond her years. She paints word pictures better than anyone I've ever heard.
Grace, please, never let go of your heart for the sake of those who will attempt to entice you with the entrapments of wealth and fame. Hold on with all your might to family and your closest friends. By this your inspiration will explode around world.

Suberb isn't she? I've been a Grace fan since the live AGT shows. Grace is the 1st that I know of "pop" star that fills a huge gap for a wholesome, parent-friendly, peer-friendly, not-uncool-to-like, cross generational appeal. As I said to someone else in the tiresome Sia/Taylor debate, she has 28 and 14 years to go, respectively, till she reaches their ages now. Good grief, just think of what we have to come. Have you discovered her "Darkness Keeps Chasing Me"? You might need a box of tissues...
I have heard her entire album. I have also watched many of her posted videos also. Her mother is behind the camera. As young as she is I find her very intelligent and articulate.
She is your typical 13 year old with a great sense of humor when she is at home.
In the studio she is in near control of every aspect including lyrics, music and production. I don't believe anyone has successfully introduced a new instrument such as a ukulele so perfectly to music like pop.
Grace is most interesting artist I've ever seen in a long time. It's not just her ability to sing/song write. Her stage presence pulls you. She just knows how to make you have a great time and just a great personality.
I also saw that as well. By nature she does not play "to" the audience but with the people. There is no fear of being herself nor of making mistakes. But instead, laughing because of them not in spite of those goofs.
Until she came along this kind of attitude was non-existent .

She's taken the gift of a unique, soulful, mature voice from an early age, learned to master and control it with near-perfect pitch, soaked in from around her a lifetime's worth of music theory from the music around her (and a good early teacher), and focused a poet's soul and composer's sensibilities to creating music that crosses all boundaries in its appeal. Add to that your point about being almost completely free of the self-consciousness on stage that almost anyone her age would be expected to have, along with the will of a corporate CEO in the recording studio, and the heart of an angel with the sick, shy, and nervous, and you have someone whose greatest (only?) obstacle is that so many people just haven't her yet.

Hi Luke, thanks for the generous words. Yes, there has never been anybody like Grace, she is totally unique in much more than her voice alone. I like to say we are witnessing the ground swell of a fledgling legend! I would like to be around another 20 - 30 years to enjoy this ride Grace has us all on, but at my age another 10 is optimistic so I'm absorbing as much as I can while I can. Now when I contemplate Amazing Grace, it brings back to mind the anticipation and exaltation that I got in exactly the same way each time Bob Dylan or Led Zeppelin released something new. She's the "White Album" and "Their Satanic Majesty's Request" baked in a crust made of Debby Harry, Chrissie Hynde and Kim Carne and Sarah Brightman. How happy I am to have lived long enough to have seen her, and I can cast off low feelings and septuagenarian depression like magic when I hear her sing and play. The transformation of Grace and her music is astounding. She was fantastic as a 12-year-old singer and musician and now she is out of the stratosphere!!!
