Three advices from Prophet Muhammad PBUH to live life with no regrets:
    1. Pray as if it is your last prayer (salah)
    2. Don't say things today that you'll have to apologize for tomorrow
    3. Lose hope in what other people possess

I had that happen to me. The last conversation I ever had with my cousin I mad her cry. I blew up on her and took out ALL my frustrations out on her, years of bent up anger......we went on like that for a few years and honestly I wasn't thinking clearly. I'm not sure if I ever thought about missing the opportunity to fix it because I was young and naive.... The day she passed away I went into a state of shock and then into a very deep dark depression 😖 it haunted me for MANY years. She died on a Ramadan evening while still fasting. I still make Dua for her every chance I get. That was a lesson learnt the hard way. Now I'm quick to apologise because tomorrow is never promised.

      Allah is my lord
Your relationship with your cousin still continues my dear sis! Every dua’a you make for her reaches her and benefits her! If you can, perform an Umrah or Hajj and ask Allah SWT for all the benefit and reward to be directed to her. You can read the Quran and the same, ask Allah for the reward to be directed to your dear cousin. Every dua’a reaches our loved ones! Dry you tears my love and forgive yourself and let your broken heart be a conduit for a perfect worship or dua’a to Allah.

I understood "أجمع يئسا مما في يد الناس" as "lose hope in what's in other people's hands", not "possess". So the way I understood it is basically about what's out of your hands and is under other people's power, for example you can't force someone to do good to you or love you. والله أعلم
