You and Kyle Mcdougall are brother´s, when it comes to breaking the ground glass on a Intrepid 4x5 Camera.
Pro tip: when you're loading the sheets into the holders, there's no need to pull the dark slide out all the way. Just pull it out far enough so that you can feel the little notches that the film goes behind. Makes getting it back in after loading muuuch easier.
Greg's negativity broke my man's ground glass. Dude the pictures you took are really amazing. Especially the one with the wind turbine, minimalism at its best. Keep up the nice work 🙂
Love the drawn animations at the begining of the video ! Great to see that you are still challenging yourself in your content and photography !
Bro those shots are amazing, don’t sleep on em
Once you get into tilt & shift, it’s a whole other world with large format cameras. Would love to see some you make some portraits with this!
Been waiting for this video for so long m8! Happy to see you shooting 4x5!
Those images are beautiful! A cool little vignette of that part of Washington
Excellent work, as always!
As always nice vid Brae! All of the 4 photos were beautiful especially the river shot! Take care man
This is the best video you have made! Every video just keeps getting better! Absolutely killn it brae!
been a minute dude but great vid, awesome to see how polished these are getting. keep at it 🤙
Awesome as always! About 5 years ago I was going over the pass and since it was winter I ended up doing a 360 on the highway. Thankfully no one else was around, pulled off at the next exit and bought chains. Moving back to wa in 3 months! So excited
Oh shit that’s spooky haha. And congrats on moving back, hard to beat it out here!
haha i can't 😆😆😆that intro is too good. The video is top-notch so many good ideas and jokes. awesome. 9:39 how can it be that you and kyle mcdougall release a video at the same time where you break a ground glass? 😆
Thank you! And i know right...?? Perhaps it's the Intrepid curse haha! Appreciate the kind words and support as always.
What a timing, I shot 4x5 for the first time this weekend as well and I also feel the addiction crawling in, even though I don’t even own a large format camera myself haha. Incredible video as always!
(And they should build hats with built in microphones - this actually makes so much more sense than the noise of hair or fabric rubbing against the mic when attached to clothes)
Haha now there's a good idea! And enjoy that addiction, only gets worse the more you shoot lol
Love your content! The quality is just amazing and as a fellow film photographer I love watching your videos for inspiration and just overall because they are entertaining. While I'm happy I found a sort of hidden gem with your channel (found you sometime at the end of last year) I hope you blow up so more people get to enjoy your amazing work!
Hey there! Love you're sense of humor and the fun you had making this one. As always, your video production and cinematography is amazing. I love the slow shutter speed river photo that you made with this camera. Beautiful! ✌️
Maaan so many great moments in this video, loved it! You covering the camera with your hoodie made me laugh weirdly loud while sitting at my table alone eating a jam-bread😅😅
This man got 4 usable images on his first large format experience stuff of legends right here 🙌🏾
Good funny blog and some good images , river shot was pretty decent especially for the first time out !!
Kyle McDougall bust his large format camera’s glass in his video tonight too so there’s definitely something in the air! Another enjoyable video Brae and those images were better than you thought, especially the last two.
Haha yeah it’s the intrepid curse I believe 😂 thanks for the kind words :)
That river shot is fantastic! You should be proud of it, cracked glass or not lol
Strong Nick Carver vibes in that first shooting sequence 😁 man, maybe it really is time to pick one of these up...
Welcome to the Intrepid Gang bro!
I'm also a 4x5 noob so it's going to be interesting watching you learn and share your experiences. I'll make a note of being extra careful about the ground glass :P
Love the long exposure, I should definitely give this a go when I find a suitable scene!
Aye glad to be here! And yeah definitely be careful not to bump it, can pop off easily. Enjoy shooting my friend!
@@BraeHunziker Thanks Brae!
I've just watched your video, and then I watched Kyle McDougall's latest vid.... he broke his Intrepid's ground glass too!
Brea i know this video is a YEAR old but those last 2 pics were OUTSTANDING, I MYSELF just got into LARGE format and purchased a CHAMONIX 45-F2, your channel is very inspiring, sucks that you dropped the back glass and it broke man, hope you got a new one. Stick to it, you are GOOD at it, Peace.
So cool!
Please never leave the handheld mic!!
I love the subtle flex with the Mamiya 7. My man 🤙
@@BraeHunziker Gee, I thought you brought it along to size up the perspective before setting the tripod :)
So killer! Would absolutely love to pick one of these up.. this might be the nudge I needed. 😤
bruh i’m only 2 minutes in and already blown away by the quality of this video, keep doing what ur doing mate !!
Holy shit, dude. I put off watching this for a few days but God DAMN this is some of your finest work. Really great stuff, man. Looking forward to the next one!
These just keep getting better and better. How you do dis?? Love the van shot, btw
You and Kyle Mcdougal having the same luck on the same day! Well upload day anyways...
Nice images tho dude!
Keeps flashing a Mamiya 7 in his camera bag haha! Production quality went way up, Brae! Didn't go unnoticed, great video!
The intro hits different fr 😂 love the photos and the vid i really enjoyed it thanks brae 😁❤️
That intro was gold 😂 cough from a puff will definitely get you lit 😅 The animation was hilarious too...overall a good watch! 👍🏾
Great 😍 can’t wait to try 4x5 too..
Btw, spotted Mamiya 7!!
@@BraeHunziker OK, that's 2. Is this a Where's Waldo game I was not clued in on?
kodak acid tab seals would make film photography wayyy more fun than digital. kodak make this happen. T O N E Z
Little late on this, but beautiful work man. Sounds like a really exciting and rewarding process. It will be fun to see you go this route from time to time!
Welcome to the LARGE SIDE bro lol. Got my 4x5 Intrepid last week to add to me Crown Graphic Special and Anniversary Speed Graphic
Glad to be here haha. Totally different ball game. Looking forward to progressing with it.
It’s really cool how the damaged coating on the inside of the vans glass sort of looks like snowy mountains haha! Banger videyo as always man, I reckon we’re just a few statements away from convincing kodak to actually do the LSD roll end treats ahaha
Dang you’re right haha. Cool find. And thanks man, I think we’ll have the acid rolls by next year if we keep this up 😎
Thank you for sharing! The 4 x 5 images look impressive!
When you send the sheet films for developing, do you pass the whole film holder with the film inside to the lab?
good video, some TIPS for loading the Holders, the film is notched, this goes into the holder Right side UP, use your Index finger and thumb placed on the rail starting points, so the film goes into the FILM track, NOT the darkslide track!- the fingers guide it into the right one, plus tell you if the film edge is going astray, ALSO having the slide Partly in the holder helps to detect if the film is correctly loaded. lift up on the film edge after loading, ensuring the film is in the track, and HELD there! ; close the flap, and darkslide WHITE side{or clean metal side} OUT towards you [NOT Exposed], CHECK the flap is caught by the slide!!
once exposed, turn the slide over to the BLACK side!!- to say this has been SHOT, and also if the whole holder is SHOT, define it in some way, tape the ends, add string, clips or simmilar, as DOUBLE exposing is EASY, as there is NO protections like in 35 or MF cameras!!
Great job on your 1st outing, it's like 1st time playing in the big kid's yard at school :-P. I picked up a pack of new55 instant film to use with my 4x5 polaroid back, including shipping to Ireland it cost $100 for 5 sheets... I'm too nervous to shoot it... Some great tips in the comments, keep up the great work!
You’re going to convince me to get into 4x5 as well, aren’t you...? 😅 great stuff as always Brae!
I move into medium format and Brae immediately moves into large format. Seems fitting lol great shots my guy!
Hahah I still feel I reside in the medium format space, large format only on special occasions :)
Superb video. Lovely images and great sense of humor. I agree with Kodak adhesive strip idea in an alternate legal world where digital has yet to exist. Need to travel to the US someday and visit Washington state. Reminds me of some parts of South Island which for me is a three hour plane trip away.
Thanks very much Kevin! And you definitely do need to travel out this way, it’s a beautiful place to photograph and explore :)
Thanks for the encouragement to take the dive and start using the 4x5 i picked up locally. Does SpeedyePhoto develop 4x5?
Oh awesome! Unfortunately they do not, they do scan it though. I sent my 4x5 to blue moon camera in Portland for this video.
If you still got that Intrepid, we need to see you shoot some portraits with it (after getting a new ground glass 🤣) before you pack it away for good. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
That intro was too good 😂 I'm sure I'll inevitably get into large format, prolonging it for as long as possible 💸💸
A little styrofoam, taped over ground glass, will help protect it while transporting. I use Neoprene wetsuit material wrapped around camera but it is bulkier for a small pack.
congrats on starting with large format! i just built a diy-device to shoot two 4x5 negatives side by side (stereo) - making a video about it right now.
@@BraeHunziker btw: you can make your own groundglass. cut some glass to size and sand it down with silicon carbide powder (400 and 600 grit). put another glass on top and some powder in between and rub them on top of each other until it gets milky...
When looking through a large format camera, you should see an upside down image on the ground glass. I am shooting with a Benderview 4x5, home built from a kit.
A) Were you suggesting he did something wrong that it was right-side up?
B) Unless you are Bruce Wayne.
I'll see myself out now...
one important shooting tip, MAKE SURE the shutter is closed before the DARKSLIDE comes out!!, this includes the focus lever on the lens(opens shutter for composition). if you want to know why, look at Nick carvers' video where he tries out NEW 55 film, at the tail end of the trip, you will know when, HINT, there is a cash register bell going off.
I carry a whale on my back with both my Linhof and Bronica (and all their gear). I also self develop and scan. It's still costly because LF film is so dang expensive! Like come on! I do enjoy both though. Welcome to the club!
@@BraeHunziker I tell myself that all the time. I also shoot slide too. But, I’m to consider carefully when I’m out and about. I did make a few decisions tho… I try to shoot exclusively slide or colour for 120, and stick to B&W for 4x5.
On a different note… I nearly purchased a Intrepid, but Rochester (NY) is windy, and Ithaca is gorges…lol sorry pun. I wanted something drop proof. You dropping cameras made the decision easier :)
So awesome seeing you try out large format! Who did you use to scan your negatives? And is no one else wondering how he just casually opens his backpack without mentioning his new Mamiya 7?!
Haha you got a good eye! And I sent my sheets to Blue Moon Camera in Portland :)
Bro you need to look into the Fuji G617, it's a 6x17 medium format camera with one of the sharpest lenses ever made by fuji and the negatives it produces are godly
@@BraeHunziker I am on the verge of saying Fuck it and just buying one since I doubt they will get cheaper in the future. I was thinking of just getting into large format and cropping but the ease of use of the g617 and the cheaper 120 film is a big plus for me
great video man! i think trying different formats is really important :) at least that's what i say to justify my purchases
Hahaha it really is though. Makes for a very pleasant process change and offers a new perspective.
That intro tho 😂🔥
@@BraeHunziker the production quality just keeps going up and up man, bravo! The animated texts were a nice touch
You just know Brae was halfway through smoking that cannon and was like, 'ya this is a good idea' and filmed the intro.
Favorite CZcamsr 🧡 Fãs Brasileiros por aqui? 🇧🇷
Just started a 4x5 journey myself. The only thing I'd say is to ditch the ball head. They are just to floppy. I have an old Manfrotto 3047 three-way head. It takes the weight better and is easier to center and make small adjustments with. Intrepid seems to have issues with the ground glass breaking. They do sell replacements. Also while color negs are great I love shooting B/W with HP5+ and both TMax100 and 400. I develop the negs myself and it have been nothing but fun.
Thanks for the tips Sophie! Grabbed a replacement ground glass already lol. Definitely need to invest in a better tripod as well. Happy shooting!
Welcome to large format. Unfortunate about your ground glass. You are the second CZcamsr I have watched today that broke their ground glass. I better be careful when I go out next. lol
The duct tape on the cable release is hilarious. Why is it there?
Great question haha, my last release ended up breaking at that point so I taped this one to hopefully prevent that from happening
Ah! Makes sense. Whatever works! I’ve been LFing for a few years and looks like you’re doing great. The ground glass mishap is unfortunate, but live & learn. Probably every LF photographer has broken at least one of those. In fact, ever since I got a spare I haven’t broken mine.
Did the ground glass fall off because you didn't lock it in or something? I'm... worried about it now as I just ordered one...
Oh you should be totally fine. I think I accidentally knocked the lever loose and caused it to pop off. It fits very securely.
@@BraeHunziker That's a relief, thanks. I was wondering what to look out for.
You need a loupe bro lol. How you focusing that with such confidence.
At f64, just about everything from a few feet ahead of the camera to infinity will be in focus, if you use the hyperfocal distance technique. That was where the phrase 'f64 school of photography' came from when serious photographers used large format only.
Now try Ektachrome E100 and you'd love LF even more. most light meter app like My Lightmeter Pro can measure mad correct exposure so no need for anything fancy tbh. I tried it once, could never come back to negative...
Also and Provia does come in quick loading sheets too ;) so no need to bring 4 holders at a time.
Haha already plotting to shoot some reversal film soon. And quick loading sheets? What is this sorcery you speak of?
@@BraeHunziker www.ebay.com/itm/233955923155?hash=item3678dc14d3:g:uu4AAOSwPnVga2lX this is it my friend. You don’t need to bring ten holders, just one quick loader and you’re set.
Nice :) Hoody = Black cloth :)
@@BraeHunziker I thought it was the most creative thing to do 👍🙏🕊📸
Oh my man. Been waiting for this one. Welcome 🙏🏻 can’t wait to get out there and shoot soon 👀
I took after the best dude. A new found respect for your consistency with this format.
Two there always are, a Master and an apprentice!!!
