My late husband worked in the grocery industry for almost 20 years and most people do not know or understand the pricing tiers that grocery stores employ. First tier is the most expensive and that is for the smaller towns with the smaller stores and also tourist destinations/resort areas. The second tier is average size cities with normal size stores, so anything probably from a 30,000 population on up and they could have one or two stores within that city. And tier 3 is the lowest price stores and they are the largest cities. What’s also good to understand is that if you coupon, the major stores make agreements with the manufacturers or distributors that put out the coupons and you may have a coupon for Pepsi let’s just say That comes out in the Sunday paper. Try to get a couple extra copies so you can have more sets of coupons because that same bottle of Pepsi is going to be on sale at different stores throughout that month. I don’t remember the order that they went in, But I was dealing with the Acme, P&C, Weiss, and then what other stores there may like tops, for example. So let’s say it’s a 50 Cent off coupon and Acme runs the ad first for their portion of the sale and then you apply the coupon and get $.75 off total. The next week it may be Weiss’s turn, and so on. The grocery industry has changed somewhat since the pandemic, before that they were running what they term as lost leaders where they have a crazy price on eggs and butter let’s say to get you in the door so that you will buy other things. they don’t really do that much anymore. It used to be the staples like the milk and the butter and the eggs and bread as the top four. There’s also a psychological strategy for how they set the store up. Stores like Wegmans which is north east regional has produce first which is always first which goes along with floral and bakery, they’re usually all together, along the back is the meat and the deli, but then it takes you, depending on the size of the store four or five isles to get through the seasonal materials, the health and beauty aids, the baby department, the cards and gifts and even some store sell seasonal clothing like Ristie T-shirts and during the summer they sell coolers and patio, umbrellas and tiki torches. Those things are the things they make their money on. Traditionally, the profit from real food is very low. And that’s why you want your cashiers to be reliable and trustworthy as well as being quick. My husband worked a long time in dairy and frozen food and then was promoted to produce. He had produce down to a science and knew that if bananas were gonna be $.39 a pound he needed to order a certain number of cases bananas. He had very low shrink, which is theft and spoilage. I remember once one of the buyers decided they were going to save five every head of iceberg lettuce by not having the stem cut off and having it washed and wrapped before buying. That meant the store people had to cut off the stem wash it and then heat wrap it. It ended up costing more money in the long run, because at that point through the union which was AFL-CIO, we’re earning over $20 an hour for full-time workers and they got good benefits which were all through the union and not from the store. They had no sick days they had no personal days and they only got two weeks of vacation so there’s a lot of that going on. Just thought I’d share some of the knowledge I have about the grocery industry because a lot of people are unaware and you know they may go on vacation and walk into a very small store and say it’s really expensive here not understand the rationale behind it.

Hi Vanessa. About a year ago, I tried John Soule's Southern Style Chicken breast sandwiches (I get them from Wal-Mart). They come in a box of 2 with the buns as well for $4.97 a box. They are way better than any I've ever tried. They also come in spicy as well. I think Bryce Would like them.
