1925 SINGER 31-15 SEWING MACHINE OILING, PROPER NEEDLE SYSTEM (DPx5) & THREAD

Today's job will be oiling the SINGER 31-15 Industrial sewing machine, I will also be showing the proper needle system to use with the machine this is important for proper machine timing. (DPx5) or the old numbers are 16x87 needles.

Thank you for all of the help on 31-15's! I just received one yesterday in the mail.
Looks like hardly ever used, but very dry & rocker shafts/feed dog are frozen.
Anyhow I have question on the needle bar. When at top stroke My bar is only 3/16" above the top bushing, . Not an inch or two like your videos. When at bottom stroke the needle bar is clear of the top bushing completely . It seems short? Are there different lengths?

Love your videos! My 31-15 stitch length adjuster seems to be off. The feed dogs are timed close to correctly (as close as I can get it) but I noticed my longest stitch length is 8 stitches per inch verses 6 - do you have a video or know of any that address that?

Interesting. Can it be fitted with an on board motor?

Probably you could fabricate a good mounting bracket, but this solution was best for me working on lots of machines.
