- Before the accident happened, the two Boeing 747 known as KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am Flight 1736 got diverted to Los Rodeos airport after having a bomb explosion on the airport of Gran Canaria. The Tenerife airport disaster occurred on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747 passenger jets collided on the runway at Los Rodeos Airport (now Tenerife North Airport) on the Spanish island of Tenerife. The collision occurred because the visibility was poor so KLM Flight 4805 initiated its takeoff run while Pan Am Flight 1736 was still on the runway. The impact and resulting fire killed everyone on board KLM 4805 and most of the occupants of Pan Am 1736, with only 61 survivors in the front section of the aircraft. With 583 fatalities, the disaster is the deadliest accident in aviation history including 2 planes.

The Tenerife Accident happened on March 27, 1977. When two Boeing 747 planes collided on the runway of Los Rodeos Airport (now North Tenerife Airport.) The collision occurred when KLM Flight 4805 initiated its take off when if was not supposed to. It crashed into Pan Am Flight 1736 the plane supposed to take off. Killing 248 total occupants, 234 passengers, and 14 crew members on KLM 4805. On Pan Am flight 1736 there was 396 occupants, 380 passengers, 16 crew, and 61 survivors.
An investigation by Spanish authorities concluded that KLM thought they were able to take off my Air Traffic Control (ATC) but were not, instead Pan Am was issued to fly. Unfortunately, Dutch investigators realized that it was miscommunications through the radio between ATC and KLM. KLM admitted that their crew that day was responsible and the airline agreed to financially compensate the relatives of all of the victims.
The disaster had a lasting impact on the industry, illustrating in particular the vital importance of using standardized phraseology in radio communications. Additionally, cockpit procedures were examined, which contributed to establishing crew resource management as an essential component of airline pilot training. The joint crew involvement is welcomed throughout airplane operations, and the captain is no longer seen as infallible.
Thank you for reading hope you have a good day/night.
I forgot this
Due to a bomb threat at Gran Canaria Airport, both planes were diverted to Tenerife. However, the airport was not adequately prepared for the sudden influx of planes and passengers, leading to congestion on the taxiways. Dense fog further reduced visibility, creating a challenging environment for air traffic control.

The Tenerife airport disaster was a combination of unfortunate circumstances. On that day, both the KLM and Pan Am Boeing 747s were diverted to Tenerife due to a bomb threat at their original destination, Gran Canaria Airport. The airport at Tenerife was small and crowded with diverted planes, causing confusion and congestion.
The accident happened in dense fog conditions, which greatly reduced visibility. The KLM plane was ready for takeoff and waiting on the runway. Meanwhile, the Pan Am plane was still taxiing on the same runway. Due to a misunderstanding caused by radio communication, the KLM pilot thought they had clearance for takeoff and started accelerating.
At the same time, the Pan Am plane was still on the runway, trying to exit as per the air traffic controller's instructions. By the time both crews realized what was happening, it was too late to avoid a collision.
The KLM plane crashed into the Pan Am plane, causing both to catch fire. Sadly, all 248 people on the KLM plane and 335 of the 396 people on the Pan Am plane lost their lives.
The disaster led to a major overhaul in aviation safety and communication protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future. It's a sad reminder of the importance of clear communication and safety protocols.

For those who don't know (probably not much people):
This historical terrible deadly accident happened on March 27 1977. So the plan didn't work, it was a big fog but they saw a plane coming toward them, they tried to take off but it needed to be in another so they tried to embrace the plane but they can't so then they run to themselfs and this was the deadliest plane crash in history with over 580+ people dead.
*BIG FOG*
Next time instead of “Big Fog” use the words “Low visibility” or in another case “IFR only day”
The reason of the crash was that Tenerife south did not have a ground radar at the time, with an assumption that PanAm 1736 was already off of the runway KLM was cleared to takeoff and like i said because there was no ground radar they didn’t know if Pan Am was truly off the runway yet it was a large assumption caused by the ATC workers. KLM flight 4805 set the throttle to TO/GA and they went on their way after seeing the aircraft ahead facing them pan-am 1736 used maximum rudder force and went left and to full throttle to try to exit the runway as fast as possible but this only made it worse for the passengers as they were now going to be directly hit. This lead to one of the deadliest airplane crashes in history.

How did the klm have like no survivors? It looked like they were the safest
bc it landed on its belly or sum and the whloe thing got lit...
In reality it kept flying for 500 meters until slamming into the ground and since KLM refuelled with 55 tons the plane lit on fire like so badly it spread a lot having KLM no survivors
It has no survivor because the belly which contain full fuel which should be used to get back to Amsterdam slam to the ground which such force it creat fusion in the fuselage that it became like bomb.
Another thing can explain is also the Concorde in France where the tire exploded which cause the fuselage to get a fusion in some angle which Make it the Concorde to sleep in the hangar forever. RIP to both incident may the god be with you.

When the saw PAN AM it was too late and the started pulling as hard as possible but it was to late. When 2 Boeing 747 collided on the runway of Los Rodeos Airport which is now North Tenerife Airport The collision occurred when KLM Flight 4805 initiated to take off without an ATC Clearance it collided with Pan Am Flight 1736 this also happened because of miscommunication.
Only 61 people in the Pan Am Flight 1736 survived while nobody survived in the KLM Flight 4805 this could also happen because the white fog was blocking their way which could have led to the miscommunications.
And here was their last words of the Pan Am Flight: Get off, GET OFF!

The Tenerife airport disaster occurred on March 27, 1977 when two Boeing 747 passenger jets collided on the runway at Los Rodeos airport (now Tenerife North Airport) on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
The collision occurred when KLM Flight 4805 initiated its takeoff run during dense fog while Pan Am Flight 1736 was still on the runway.
The impact and resulting fire killed everyone on board KLM 4805 and most occupants of Pan Am 1736, with only 61 survivors in the front section of the aircraft.
With 583 fatalities, the disaster is the deadliest accident in aviation history.
A bomb set off by the Canary Islands Independence movement at Gran Canaria Airport had caused many flights to be diverted to Los Rodeos, including the two aircraft involved in the runway collision accident.
The airport quickly became congested with parked airplanes blocking the only taxiway and forcing departed aircraft to taxi on the runway instead.
Patches of thick fog were drifting across the airfield, so visibility was greatly reduced for the pilots and the control tower.
The Subsequent Investigation by the Spanish authorities concluded that the primary cause of the collision of KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am flight 1736 was the KLM captain’s decision to takeoff in the mistaken belief a takeoff clearance from Air Traffic Control (ATC) had been issued.
Dutch investigators placed a greater emphasis on a mutual misunderstanding in radio communications between the KLM crew and the ATC, but ultimately KLM admitted that their crew was responsible for the accident and the airline agreed to financially compensate relatives of all the victims of the airplane disaster.
The disaster had a lasting influence n the industry, highlighting in particular the vital importance of using standardized phraseology in radio communications.
Cockpit procedures were also reviewed, contributing to the establishment of crew resource management as a fundamental part of airline pilots’ training.
The captain is no longer considered infallible, and combined crew input is encouraged during aircraft operations.
Tenerife was an unscheduled sop for both flights (specifically KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am flight 1736).
Their destination was Gran Canaria Airport (also known as Las Palmas Airport or Gando Airport), serving Las Palmas on the nearby island of Gran Canaria.
Both islands are part of the Canary Islands, an autonomous community of Spain located in the Atlantic Ocean off the southwest coast of Morocco.
KLM Flight 4805 was a charter flight for Holland international Travel Group and have from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands.

Explanation of the crash: So first two 747's were requested to go on the same run way
The KLM was granted permission to take off while pan Am was waiting for the permission for taxiing on the runway there was high fog at the airport so sadly the KLM pilot and co pilot noticed the plane too late and the plane wasn't at take off speed and it took off but it was too late and crashed into the Pan Am plane The last words of the PAN am was "That son of a b***h is coming!.... "
@Slide_mind no klm were not given a takeoff clearance, only route clearance. The FO was reading back the route clearance to tower, as the captain was initiating the roll down the runway.
