I will never forget Lance's entrance scene, it's embedded in my brain lol! Q was always my favorite character I loved his sarcastic, intuitive personality. Him and Shelby are perfect for each other. The entire cast on this franchise has amazing chemistry with one another.
Lances entrance was the most memorable scene ever. It was our first time seeing him on the big screen since Boyz and my goodness….he had grown up!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
I love this review. The Best Man is such a cultural phenomenon that has some really great character development and good writing. I love the fact that now we can look back at the beginning with 20/20 hindsight. The best part is that it shows the lifestyle of the college educated Black professionals without any dumb stereotypes.
Also I keep saying this, but now that I’m grown, the way Harper proposed to Robyn with no ring, at his best friends wedding, after almost ruining it and cheating on her was sick. And I’m like why did he even propose? She wanted to have a serious talk and he just shut her down and gave her what she’s been asking for. Like, I really loved the series and Malcom Lee did an amazing job making these characters realistic and evolved. I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ve always liked this movie but the show made me lowkey obsessed. Great breakdown, and I’m glad I’ve found this channel! I always want to revisit movies from my childhood and breakdown how toxic it was. 😂
You are absolutely right. Harper, the character, was very self-serving. Robyn found herself after living in his background for so long. Good for her, but it's sad it took so long.
IMO- Harper was jealous of Lance, he messed around with Mia and he shifted the focus of attention from Lance and Mia (bride and groom) to his (Harper’s) engagement. It’s Always about Harper

The part that made me crack up was where Mia was giving her dinner speech and she said, “…and that new contract didn’t hurt either.” 😂 She said she was just kidding and Q was like, “yeah right!” 🤣🤣🤣 Q knew what was up! Like you said Bondy, Mia knew what she was doing to lock Lance down!
In The Best Man Holiday, I LOVED the scene when Mia told Lance he was extra mad at Harper because he couldn't be mad at her and the fact that she chose Harper to have sex with. When Lance cried and said, "you chose him?" I appreciated it because it seemed like he saw her and her humanity and agency more than before. Bondy! This is such a treat. I love all your Now That We're Grown videos, but The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday are two of my favorite movies. I watched both recently in preparation for The Final Chapter series and thought, "Bondy hasn't done a video for The Best Man." Now, you have! Thank you! Yes!!!! I loved that scene too! Lance made me mad treating Harper like Harper was the predator that took his Angel's virtue that was supposed to be for him! Yes, Mia was wonderful, but Mia had flaws too. And yes Harper was wrong, but Harper wasn't the only one to blame.
I feel like Jordan had no shame when it came to Harper. She knew he was involved and waited on him. Both, Robyn and Jordan waited on Harper for him to understand his feelings.
I'm a bit older, so I lived off of movies like this one, Love & Basketball, The Wood, Jason's Lyric, etc. And the soundtrack to The Best Man was almost as good as the movie. The only thing missing from the soundtrack was "Candy" by Cameo.
Morris Chestnut walking into that bar was the moment I realized what my “type” would be. That man is absolutely flawless in that moment 😍 I STILL remember that gasp in the audience at the movies. My auntie was like “damn Ricky” 😂😂
Update: I look forward to your review of the Best Man Final Chapters. I completely agree that Robyn missed all of the red flags. She most definitely forced this relationship. Feeling the way she felt, she should have never played second Best to Jordan/Kendall. That feeling never escaped her, even when they were married. She always felt uneasy around Jordan. And Jordan always did the most to try deflect from the fact that the friendship between her and Harper was borderline inappropriate. The boundaries were never clear. Robyn definitely has to own the fact that she chose to do life with a man who barely chose her. Bondy please do a continuation to follow-up with The Best Man Holiday, and The Best Man:The Final Chapters 😊
I'm having a Best Man marathon, Robin and Harper never should've gotten married. When she was telling him how she felt he shut her down with "I thought I was done with all the drama" He was setting up the relationship to always move in his favor.

I think that folks may have a hard time understanding the idea of soul mates because they have never experienced it. Soul mates can be completely platonic. I have 2 friends that I absolutely believe that we were placed in each other's lives on purpose.

I saw it when I was 14 and it put in perspective my parents relationship even though they were teenagers. The girl that Kristen does plays that manic crazy wild obsessively never wanting to grow up childlike behavior is my mother to a tea with good perspective about it
Mia was a plot device, not a character ever meant to be developed. When the second movie came out it was obvious she had to either be a main character or die Dying was the best move because her role wasn't going to expand. The cast, aside from her and Robin, had great scenes and great chemistry. Even in the show, Robin is usually with the locals, Jordan or Harper. I agree that Jordan didn't sleep with Harper because of all the reasons that you stated. I do wonder if she and Harper would have worked BECAUSE they were both so driven. They probably would have had a few rough patches because yes, Harper would have needed a bit more coddling than Jordan would have had time for.

I pulled a Mia on my abusive ex he got arrested and his best friend called his phone and when I told him he came and bought me groceries and money. My ex slept with a few friends of mine and being a d boy I found out he was even sleeping with strawberries. It happened more than once with his friend and I and when he came home I simply said oh yeah Sean said tell you hi. He said what Sean I said your plug he said my friend 🤔 I said no OUR friend😏 and in that moment he knew. You humped on fiends and I got the person who is the source of your money. I never watched The Best Man bc I was a child and my mom never allowed me to. So I was watching it over Christmas and I was so shocked by how misogynistic it is.
The cast of this movie were the hardest working actors & actresses in the business at the time. Harper should have never put that secret in his book knowing how Jordan & Quentin were. Then Harper had the audacity to blame Jordan for it instead of taking accountability for his actions. Merch had no backbone & Shelby had no personality outside of being controlling. Jordan was the girlfriend that Harper never had, Lance was cheating all throughout his relationship with Mia, & Quentin was the realest one of the crew. Fun Fact: Uncle Skeeter was played by the late Jim Mooney was in The Last Dragon, Colors, Lean On Me, Who’s The Man & New York Undercover. Larenz Tate was offered the role of Harper. I don’t know which was messier The Best Man or Why Did I Get Married.

The cast of this movie were the hardest working actors & actresses in the business at the time. Harper should have never put that secret in his book knowing how Jordan & Quentin were. Then Harper had the audacity to blame Jordan for it instead of taking accountability for his actions. Merch had no backbone & Shelby had no personality outside of being controlling. Jordan was the girlfriend that Harper never had, Lance was cheating all throughout his relationship with Mia, & Quentin was the realest one of the crew. Fun Fact: Uncle Skeeter was played by the late Jim Mooney was in The Last Dragon, Colors, Lean On Me, Who’s The Man & New York Undercover. Larenz Tate was offered the role of Harper. Harper always been a weird lil man to me. I can see how Murch feels being best friends with Quentin. Quentin just playa all the way!
