- Featured is the round 5 blitz game between Magnus Carlsen and Kirill Shevchenko from the 2023 Superbet Rapid & Blitz Poland (2/5). The opening is a Sicilian Defense, Accelerated Dragon, with Carlsen opting for 7. Nb3 instead of the more popular Bc4. White's strategy for defeating the Sicilian Dragon is maybe best understood by Bobby Fischer's quote: “Pry open the h-file, sac, sac ... mate!”. Whether facing the Sicilian Dragon or playing it, you will find useful notes for both colors in this 25-move model game, where Carlsen did not need to sacrifice anything substantial on his path to victory.

Hi Jerry, it's everyone! Your analysis videos during the Carlsen Karjakin WCC are what got me into chess.
Thanks for all these regular uploads, it's the best chess content on CZcams!
Nice to read you recently got into the game, and thanks. 😎👍
5min game and no weak move, 98% accuracy. What a professional
Bro this streak of analysis videos is AMAZING and i will watch EVERY SINGLE ONE
I'm addicted to your videos man! Since Magnus - Fabi WC I literally watched every single one of your vid. Your passion, preparation, deep analysis of the games with all the interesting variations is just unmatched ❤ Simply awesome.
Remember that there is always 1 viewer when he sees new ChessNetwork vid he is eating breakfast and enjoying your commentary 😂 Keep up the good work and TAKE CARE! ❤ Much love from Poland.
By far the best chess videos out there. Thanks Jerry.
Phenomenal game and analysis! Thanks Jerry!
Jerry I enjoy how you aren't super critical of the players when they're in a 5 minute blitz game. Realistically even top level players will not consistently find the top move, your analysis is fair and even handed. It keeps it real and relatable.
Excellent! Both contents & presentation. Appreciated! 🙏
👍
He is a dragonslayer, indeed!
I noticed you're back to pumping out many more videos. did you take a break in the recent past due to burn out? just curious. everyone needs a break from time to time.
I'm also curious. Regardless, I greatly appreciate the new and old videos!
I think the WCC coverage and the live audience pushed him :)
You are amazing dude. Love watching your videos
Thanks for the non stop analysis videos Jerry, great work 😎😎👏👏, now I have trouble to catch up and need to accomodate some time to watch all the recent videos 😂
Jerry, WOW! Your channel is a new revelation for me. You have amazing videos where you expertly break down the key elements of chess that we should look out for in a game.
would recommend his Beginner to Chess Master : Tactical Awareness, and Stop Before You Chop. Great stuff
@@KF1 Thanks, Kingfisher! I just checked some of those videos. Great stuff no doubt!
Great explanation of the opening. I know the dragons, but I can appreciate you taking the time and not glossing over the REASONS for the moves and strategy for those of us that think openings are just memorized…. Things are played for a reason. Don’t play an opening if you are uncomfortable or inexperienced with the resulting middlegame!! Big mistake by many players below 1700-1800 it seems
Thanks a bunch again for this, Jerry! Your walkthroughs are the best, I hope you find time to continue at your current publishing pace😊
Trying for an every other day routine. Will see… thank you. 👍
Love your analysis and way of explaining positions Jerry. Always feel like I learn a lot from these vids :)
thanks for the analytic view of the video. good job
Lots of appreciation and thanks for all the lessons over the years.
It's fantastic to have calm and thoughtful instruction. You could bump your channels numbers by talking faster and screaming about the rooooook, but i have a huge amount of respect that you've chosen to stay aligned with your values. I also have a huge respect for Gotham, that wasn't meant as a dig.)
Do you have any content that drills down on strategic basics? I can't think of anyone better to explain concepts like "the square" or "philidor's position", or "opposition." I know I've seen them come up in your analyses, but I'm not sure I've seen them addressed in their own videos.
Anyway, time to throw in the towel on this comment.

Great calm voice and nice explanation. Thanks, I subscribed. Interesting, the amount of sacrifices and not just taking the rook as most would have done in a hurry, I guess. Well at this level one sticks with the mate plan of course.
Great analysis, Jerry. Thx a ton
I haven't gotten any return comments nor feedback on comments here, about how I'm beginning to understand the "middle game", but I'll keep commenting about how good these videos are. This one, at about the 9:00 minute mark, somehow clarified the "time" aspect of the game for me. Not perfectly clear of course, or I'd be pushing above 2400 (I guess), but I understood another piece of the puzzle. Thanks, Jerry (whoever you are😀), I'm learning!
Thank you Dave. 😎 Nice to read you’re picking some things up.👍
98% accuracy in a blitz game against a super GM. What in the actual... I can't imagine how differently these guys must see the board than we, simple mortals, do
Well, if you hold a tennis racket in your hand it certainly feels different to you as for, let´s say, Federer 😁
@@gerokron3412 I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or no
Great analysis.
Thank you, Jerry.
Thanks Jerry, you continue to produce quality content. Another great upload, everyone subscribe!!!
Thanks for all you do with these games. It's great watching your views on all the different tactics throughout the game. Your the best!
Man I just love your content Jerry! I just love the way you go through games and explain to your viewers, you’re the best! Thanks for the content 🙏🏼
👍
Jerry, love your coments! thank you very much. I still dont get why d4 must be inmediatly attended on move7, isnt the pown proctected from tactics?
at 13:18 why is knight C4 not an option? seems like a decent move to take pressure off the black queenside by forcing the white queen off it’s tile or forcing the white bishop to sacrifice.
I love Mongoose Carlsbad games
Great video as always, thank you!
Great commentary, really enjoyed it
Thank you Jay. 👍
Thanks Jerry!
👍
If black castles on move 7, you recommend Qd2; but what about the thematic ..Ng4 then, going after the DSB? Be4?
Good video, Jerry.
Jerry delivers again!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanx alot well done I love your simply explanation..
Thank you Jalal. 👍
thanks for the video jerry
Incredibly useful video! I got a decent bunch of worse positions as white thinking I am solid as f3 pawn defends e4 when d5! suddenly makes things difficult.
Good to hear it 👍
What about Nc4 for black instead of Nc6?
Nb3 and Bc4 are the most challenging continuations for white. If anything, Nb3 is even better as a common recommendation is to play in such a way that black gives up his prized fianchettoed bishop in order to ruin whites pawn structure on the kingside. Practice has shown that this is really not such a good idea, as white gets the two bishops and if he can consolidate has a small advantage.
Thank you, Jerry! You are a treasure.
Love your analysis Jerry. Keep em coming!
the best teacher of all times
Pretty strong player this Carlsen-guy.
Yes, maybe one day he'll be world champion.
In “sidelines”, I figured out …BR3, tho I saw no particular advantage in making that Bishop “bad” with the followup …PKN4 and so missed it.
Similarly the counterattack beginning 16…NB6, 17. KBxN, PxB, did not seem to me to afford a “crushing”attack after 18. PB5. Why not again counterattack with 18…BxN, 19. PxP, BxRPch, 20. KxB, QB5ch with lots of possibilities…?
Beautiful
Bh6 I did see that attacking the Queen
If your going to study a game from the masters best to make it the undisputed champ.
Thank you Jerry !
Magnus is incredible!
The greatest of all time!...
nice analysis...
Thank you John.
These opposite-side castle Sicilians are crazy difficult to understand. Everything hinges on tempo. And a successful attack often requires a lot of sacrifice, so knowing when it's sound vs. not is super hard.
Hi Jerry can u make some analysis video on magnus playing pirc defence..
In the last move, why not bf6h4->kg8g7?
Bh4 Qxh4 Kg7 Qh6 if Kg8 Qh7# if Kf6 g7#
that´s why I onlyplay the hyperaccelerated dragon - you avoid all the issues with the english attack
Yeah, but then there is the Maroczy
Cool, cool
My thumbnail looked like it was going to say Magnus is a drama queen
Why so many pics recently of these chess players look like hungover alcoholics
