Elvis Made 3 Western Movies. LOVE ME TENDER, FLAMING STAR And CHARRO. Charro was his last western movie 1969. What A Great Western It Is He Even Did His Own Stunts. Wrangling A Wild Horse, He Even Ended Up With Rope Burns On His Hands. Great Move. Elvis Would Have Become A Great Actor If Was Given The Chance. Thanks Great Reaction As Always.

@petehanuszak4318. Sorry that you do not recognize his great acting ability. His directors and co stars did.In fact the Casa Blanca director came on his set and stayed all day, just to watch Elvis act.He said that Elvis had more raw talent than Brando or Dean. Also he noticed Elvis impeccable timing for comedy, a trait most dramatic actors do not have They cannot do drama, much easier to pull off than comedy.Elvis could also do his own fight scenes, rough neck scenes, sing a song and make it believable for the situation, dance, ride a horse and motorcycle, play multi instruments, etc.And he had that big screen image, just mesmerizingly beautiful.Who else could play his Elvis parts so believably? Nobody. All of his movies were entertaining.I enjoy everyone..not deep and depressing but mostly light hearted. So if his peers thought highly if his skills, I think people kike us could learn from them

He was a natural and talented actor. But the serious films didn’t bring in the money for the studios like the musical , girlie films, which also released the albums with the soundtracks that the fans wanted. Another underrated film was Change of Habit, which dealt with many social issues around today. Elvis played the jaded but kind and hardworking Dr so well. It showed that he could act and was believable. I’m glad we can see these films today with new, appreciative eyes. Elvis would be proud he is still so well thought of. 👌💕🕺

I rate Charro as top 5 of all 31 Elvis movies. 👍👍It has action, violence and Elvis plays a villain turned hero by the end.
BTW, when you watch it listen for the movie instrumental in the background. The 90s group TLC sampled the music score on their song called Something Wicked This Way Comes on their Crazy, Sexy, Cool album.👍

You know you have at least 2 shirts from this movie, right? Hey - take Charro to work with you - he'll sort it out for you in a heartbeat. I love westerns, too - and OMG does Elvis do it justice. In one of his earlier movies - Wild in the Country?? - Elvis was riding an unfamiliar horse, which decided to run away with him. Elvis somehow rode the horse back into the barn/stall and punched the horse once until the wrangler came in and then he was petting it like it was all good. It's been suggested that this was the basis for Mungo punching out a horse in Blazing Saddles. When Elvis decided to buy a horse (horses?) to ride at Graceland, the frightening runaway horse episode was still in Elvis' mind, so when he found a potential candidate - Rising Sun - he made Jerry Schilling try it out for him. Jerry had little to no riding experience to that point, so he bounced pretty good in the saddle, which Elvis found hilarious. I think I might have to go watch Charro again.

You can watch this one Ray. This is the only song in the movie but doesn’t show Elvis singing. Sadly, this movie didn’t do as well as his others and they used it to convince him fans didn’t want to see him not singing. Probably because people went to his movies more than once when he is singing. I’m sure Charro did as well as other movies just didn’t bring in the big bucks singing Elvis movies did.

And now for an Elvis Extra (no movie blurb or script spoilers 😉): Billy Strange, whose early career was as a session guitarist in Hollywood, wrote the song 'Charro!'. This was not his first time to work with Elvis. Among his gigs had been to play on the soundtrack sessions for the Elvis films 'It Happened At The World's Fair', 'Viva Las Vegas' and 'Roustabout'. Strange became a writer and producer.
He often collaborated with Mac Davis, with whom he co-wrote the songs 'A Little Less Conversation', 'Nothingville', 'Memories' and 'Clean Up Your Own Backyard', all of which were recorded by Elvis. Strange produced the soundtrack session for the Elvis movie 'Live a Little, Love A Little'.
The movie was shot at the Apacheland Movie Ranch in Apache Junction, Arizona near the Superstition Mountains, site of many paranormal stories including the famous 'Lost Dutchman Gold Mine'.
Promotions for this film included twenty-five Southwestern cities which held 'Charro Girl' contests, with finalists appearing in Dallas and Austin. In Austin, 'Charro! Day' was hosted by the then Governor Preston Smith. Likewise, the governors of Oklahoma and Louisiana declared 'Charro! Day' in honor of previews in their states. A number of actors from the film traveled to appearances at these sneak previews.
The film opened nationwide on March 13, 1969.
    Behind the Scenes of Charro!
With its gritty look, violent antihero, and cynical point of view, Charro! was obviously patterned after the grim Italian westerns of the 1960s. Elvis' character, Jess Wade, is costumed similarly to Clint Eastwood's notorious 'Man with No Name' from Sergio Leone's Italian westerns.
Both wore a scruffy beard and dust-covered western garb, and both kept a well-worn cigar in their mouths. The music in Charro! was scored by Hugo Montenegro, who was responsible for the memorable score of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Unfortunately, director Charles Marquis Warren was no match for Sergio Leone, and Charro! suffers from poor production values.
At the time, much was made about the absence of songs in the film, as though that fact proved Charro! was a serious effort. Advertisements for the film declared Charro! featured 'a different kind of role...a different kind of man'. Elvis granted more interviews and generated more publicity for Charro! than he had for any film in a long time. One interview quoted him as saying, 'Charro! is the first movie I ever made without singing a song. I play a gunfighter, and I just couldn't see a singing gunfighter'. Eventually, Elvis did agree to sing the title tune, but there are no songs within the body of the film.
Charro! was filmed in the late summer of 1968 after Elvis' comeback special had been shot for television, though the special would not air until December. Elvis seemed to have taken stock of his career that year: He recorded music that was not merely fodder for soundtrack albums, and he starred in a prestigious television special. Perhaps Elvis was hoping to upgrade his acting career as well by appearing in a completely different type of film.
And that's it everyone! That's all I've got!
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

I was thinking the same thing. At several points in the song it sounds like Bond is about to sneak into the story & make a surprise cameo.
But now I'm thinking...wouldn't Elvis have made a superbly handsome Bond? In a perfectly tailored Saville Row suit or tux?😍 My eyeballs would fall out.

    • @sammy_the_uncool2702
      @sammy_the_uncool2702 Před 6 měsíci +4

@@deborahcornell171 Actually the very first actor to play James Bond was an American actor.
      The following from Wiki:
Barry Nelson (born Robert Haakon Nielsen; April 16, 1917 - April 7, 2007) was an American actor, noted as the first actor to portray Ian Fleming's secret agent James Bond.
He was the first actor to play James Bond on screen in a 1954 adaptation of Ian Fleming's novel Casino Royale on the television anthology series Climax! (preceding Sean Connery's interpretation in Dr. No by eight years). Reportedly this was considered a pilot for a possible James Bond television series, though it is not known if Nelson intended to continue playing the character. Nelson played James Bond as an American agent whom some in the program call "Jimmy". In 2004, Nelson said, "At that time, no one had ever heard of James Bond...I was scratching my head wondering how to play it. I hadn't read the book or anything like that because it wasn't well-known." Bond did not become well known in the U.S. until President John F. Kennedy listed From Russia, with Love among his 10 favorite books in a March 17, 1961, Life article.
Another interesting note: In 1970, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, and Adam West were all offered the role of James Bond but all three American actors turned it down because they all thought that an English actor should play the role of James Bond.
So Roger Moore got the role instead.
So my own very humble opinion: I think Elvis would have done the same as Eastwood, Reynolds, and West.
Elvis was proud of being an American. I don't think playing a British guy would have appealed to him.
I could be very wrong on that. It's just my own humble opinion.
However I DO think Elvis would have made an excellent Felix Leiter. Felix Leiter was in six of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. He was an American CIA agent that worked in league with James Bond.
I think that role would have had some appeal to Elvis.
And if Elvis had played Felix Leiter, who knows? Maybe Felix Leiter would have gotten his own solo feature on the silver screen back in the 1960's with Elvis playing him of course 😊
