  • For the longest time, using a rugged laptop has been a world of compromise and uninspiring and honestly sometimes lazy design. Well with their new Rugged lineup, Dell is proving that a the new face of rugged computing doesn't have to mean packing three year old hardware into a needlessly bulky package. From every perspective, it looks as if Dell's Rugged line is the new standard in the rugged market.

    Excellent video review, ctuan13.
As one of the few other "civilian" (lol) Dell Latitude R.E. owners out there, it was good to see your findings and commentary on this unique laptop/tablet.
I also acquired mine (a 7214 model) through an eBay seller, as new/open box, at a very good price.
Wanted to mention that I also enjoyed watching your excellent unboxing video for this, and the unboxing/review video of the Desk Dock.
Your Desk Dock review convinced me to buy one for mine, and I use it daily now, it's well worth purchasing.
It works great with my external monitor, mouse and keyboard.
Two months into owning this beast, I've practically replaced my desktop tower system with it, nice to have a silent, dust-free computer for daily use.
But I won't give up the tower system just yet, not while I still like to enjoy some good gaming!
For anything other than that, this certainly meets my needs.
I hope you are still enjoying yours, it would be nice to see an update.

Hey, I'm so glad you found my videos informative and helpful. And it's good to hear my dock video convinced you to get one. So useful, right?!
But I will be doing an update at some point, but in the mean time, my most recent video was a buying guide for the Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme, I know you've already got your own machine, but I thought maybe you'd find it interesting!

      That dock certainly is useful!
Particularly for these Rugged Extreme laptops, they really make sense.
Thanks for the link to your buying guide video, that was the only one in your "series" of Dell R.E. videos that I hadn't seen yet.
I did find it interesting, and you presented a good summary of things to look for when buying one of these.

    Thank you @ctuan13 !!
Actually one thing I absolutely love about this, is that it has a flash with it's camera!
(I had an iPad pro 9.7 when I traded in my air 2, which I loved that it finally had flash because I do a lot of albeit more of a hobby, than "job", engineering work, and whenever I had to take a picture, they almost always came out exquisite, minus the shadowing, but when I traded in the 9.7 for the 12.9 (Sprint had an amazing deal, I own the iPad for the 320$ I paid in tax)
My gripe? No damn flash on the large! It was a nice week-long fix to my biggest gripe.....I mean how much is it, if you're already including a camera, to throw in an led or xenon flash, so having that is a nice feat.

Well there are five presets, and then in the bios there are two more RGB customizable presets. It is quite a feature-packed machine, for sure!

All great things never get the recognition they deserve! My CAT S60 has the most awful CS I've ever called in for, and the place I purchased from went under, so I essentially have to buy it outright, again.

lfdvidinc how is it working for you? Cause I got the card and installed it as well but even after installing the software, could not get a location fix. I have to say, with regards to the GPS, the software integration is terrible.

ctuan13 watch my video. Your regular machine will use baud rate 4800 or 9600. The dell needs more. See video. Use winfast navigator to test GPS
