any idea about the size of pump and tube (2:18)?
Ty
Why the second bottom port w/ the phillips head screw?
better to order the replacement screw plugs when you do this, the new design uses Allan keys
How would you change the engine oil?
How much oil does it hold?
Thanks
What does that oil do ? Whats it for?
does those Johnson take any motor oil or is it just Lube from the bottom. I just got a boat and I wanted to see if I have to change the motor oil
+Emilio Uc dzib ---> if it's a 2 stroke engine which it probably is, you only have oil in the lower unit, but you better mix 2 stroke oil in with the gas at the correct ratio or you will he replacing your engine. There is no crank case oil in a 2 stroke.
@@jakeguitar01 absolutely and if you make a mistake let it be too much the worse. Thing that will happen is fouling your plugs not enough and you'll destroy your piston rings cylinder walls and bearings the whole shabang
I cannot get the other plug back in. Now there's metal in the way, assuming it's the gear.
How do you get the second longer bottom screw back in if accidentally removed?
Oh boy
Little off topic. Do you mix at 100/1? I use 50/1. 100 seems a little lean.
50:1 always. 100:1 was s mistake printed by manufacturer. i ran a Johnson 15 100:1 for a couple years and it didnt blow up but i know better now. 100:1 is a litter more peppy though :)
how often do you need to change the oil
it's a good question. I try to change the oil a couple times a year. I use the boat about 2x a month and since it's so easy and inexpensive to do this maintenance, it's peace of mind that I know the oil is clean and fresh
ok thank you
The reason they put a screw in it is to make it more stream line and cut down on drag,, agree though there are better ways lol.
Inset female Allen head cap woulda done it
Why can't you fill from the top down?
+MG Dobreski ---That's an excellent question. If you put the screw in the bottom and fill from the top, you will never be able to "pump" the new oil back in since it would require you to push air out at the same time. The new oil wont go in from the rop if the screw is in on the bottom. The key is that the oil is not poured in, it's pumped in. The best way to do it is from the bottom up, just leave the screw out on the top until it flows out. That's when you know it's full. Then, just put the screws in and it's done.... thanks for watching.
Air lock. Bubble in system.
The drain and fill screws with a hex drive are much better.
my lower end stopped then worked now nothing , any hints
+Martin Carver ---check the linkage. If the linkage is connected, something could have broke on the inside. Does the prop spin freely by hand? Does it feel like grinding or resistance? Is it jammed? Was there oil in the lower unit when you opened the drain plug? Was there water in it? If it wasn't maintained, it's possible that the bearings wore out and broke or froze.
it spins free no grinding at all
sounds like it shifts / have not checked the oil yet
Once you open the oil drain, you may have an idea of what you are dealing with. If the oil does not look good, or it has water in it, or you see pieces of metal or plastic coming out with the oil, most likely something broke on the inside. They can sometimes be rebuilt, or you can look for one used and just swap it out.
that's all good now , thank you very much , found my problem on that , now heres a good one for you ? what are the size of the bolt for the power trim lift on a 84 Johnson 50 hp from Johnson there 57.00 dollars a piece, would like to go to our local brafasco
Martin Carver ---> good question. I have no idea.
