  • This is an Allis Chalmers K Crawler. It was made by Spec Cast in 1/16 scale. This was a special edition made for the 2001 NTTC Show.

Spec Cast made some very nice construction models, in both 1/50 & 1/25 scales. I have two of the 1/25 scale Bantam C-35 models, one model configured as a cable hoe, & the other configured as a cable shovel. Both models have excellent detail & accurate function of hoist & crowd, operated by keys that rotate the cable drums. The tracks on these 1/25 scale models are metal (I believe), & rotate fairly well. When I got the first of these two models (around 2006), I paid about $70.00 for the model, which I think was an excellent value. I also have a Spec Cast 1/50 scale Northwest 25 D cable hoe model & a Spec Cast 1/50 scale LeTourneau cable scraper model. Both models have good detail & functionality, I think, & were reasonably priced.

I remember very well seeing the Cable Shovel online at that time and thinking I should buy this...Today! Well, I didn't and here 15+ years later I still have not and good lord there will never be one sold for $70 anytime soon. Some purchases you just regret not making. Thanks for watching!!!

@@MarylandConstructionDiecast A little more information on the Spec Cast 1/25 scale Bantam C-35 models: The cab interior on the models was very well reproduced, with all the hand & foot controls, as well as the equipment deck details (engine, driveshafts, clutches, brakes, chains, linkages, etc.). But the models did not have operating track sprocket drive chains or working track support & carrier rollers; these were static parts, but these were rather small compromises for what we're very good models overall. If TWH or NZG had made similar models in the same scale, I imagine the track chains & rollers would have operated, but the cost would've been quite a bit more. I did get the EMD Bucyrus Erie B-22 cable hoe model in 1/50 scale around 2012, & it is an excellent model, in detail & functionality. But it's not the kind of model that has "play" value as the parts & detail are very fine, but the Spec Cast models are sturdy enough to use for "play" operation, if used with some care. Another great video!
