    Lambs is referring to the common endearment term that elders would use when asking a favor: "would you be a lamb and get this for me?"
    Her fans began calling themselves lambs after overhearing her and her entourage saying it on tour.
    BTW, I love that you guys have been reacting to her deeper cuts. I believe it's where she best shines.

      Yes! But, I need to add to that. While on tour back in the day - it was customary to bring gifts. Usually flowers or stuffed animals. The fans would say I'm a lamb while handing her those things. If you react to Make It Happen you can see the types of gifts fans bring for the artist and the collect them while they're singing on stage.

  • @DarrellMarch90
    @DarrellMarch90 Před 2 lety +12

    The reason why her fans are called Lambs is because as an inside joke with one of her back singers, they would say “would you be a lamb and get this for me?” The fans heard Mariah say it and decided to call thereselves lambs. This was back in the 90s when fanbases didn’t have names. So it wasn’t like now where singers think “What am I going to name my fans?”

    Mariah is a legend. aka (The Songbird Supreme) 👑 Who inspired a whole generation of singers. From Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, Kelly Rowland, Bruno Mars, Pink, Mary J Blige, Brandy, Missy Elliott, Nelly Furtado, Lady Gaga, Kate Perry, Rihanna, Jessica Simpson, Leona Lewis, Sam Smith, Jojo, Jordin Sparks, Justin Bieber and the list goes on. I mean even the Legendary Stevie Wonder. Who said “When people talk about the great influential singers, they talk about Aretha, Whitney and Mariah”. Not to mention having 19 #1 hits on the Billboard hot 100 (Most by any solo artist in history) and being one of the best selling artist of all-time. She is more than just whistle notes. She creates her music. Writes her songs. She has actually Written or co-written almost every song that has ever appeared on her albums. And is acknowledged by the World Music Awards, as the biggest-selling recording artist of the Millennium (1990-1999).Artist of the Decade in the (00's), She was the first ever artist in music history to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, first ever female artist to collab with an rapper. With her iconic hit “Fantasy” remix ft the legendary ODB (RIP), Which makes her the pioneer for all the collabs we have today, The Queen of Christmas as we all know that she officially has the greatest Christmas/holiday song of all time, Five-time Grammy Award Winner, an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She’s just broken way too many records. And has always been on a whole another level…

    Yes this is from her 1995 album, Daydream.
    She does have background support as well as herself layering harmonies on top of the background vocals.
    She really Implemented (say perfected) the use of Layering Vocals to create this Swell and Wave of Eargasms.
    I'd love to see what y'all think of another song from her Butterfly Album (1997) titled, FOURTH OF JULY.
    Keep in mind, she writes all her music. Except for the covers and a few collabs with other musicians.

    • @sootikins
      @sootikins Před 2 lety

      Actually Pat Benatar was layering her vocals - harmonizing with herself - very effectively years before anybody had heard of Mariah Carey (ref. In the Heat of the Night album). And Queen perfected layering multiple vocalists to create complex harmony back in the '70s (ref. Night at the Opera album)

    • @dvus1977
      @dvus1977 Před 2 lety +1

      @@sootikins Agreed Pat was using that technique way before Mariah was on the scene. Which is why i was very careful of using the word Implemented, not created , started the trend of or conceived the use of , layering vocals and harmonies .

    As somebody mentioned "The lambs" or "The Lambily" comes from us overhearing Mariah and Trey Lorez (her back up singer) use it like "Would you be a lamb and do me a favor?" BTW We are the first fanbase which had a name. Now celebrities name their fanbases, which is silly. Our name was something organic. Thank you for reacting to Mariah, she is the best, the ultimate singer/song-writer.

    COME ON NOW! Lol 1995 Mariah, she was at her PEAK vocally. She IS, the Voice, in my opinion. The control, the belts, the amount of time she can hold a note and rift it, she's always shows SO much control over her notes.

    Mariah likes to quote her favorite movies & it's not always meant sincerely. 😈 She can recite 'Mean Girls" & "Bullets Over Broadway" from start to finish for example. IDK exactly which movie the "lamb" thing came from but it's likely from an old, classic one. She looooves Marilyn Monroe (hence, her daughter named "Monroe") so can quote her movies as well. But she mostly used "lamb" ironically/sarcastically lol. The fans of course stole the word from her and made it their own term of endearment, not unlike another word that has a completely different connotation but has been similarly twisted around by Black men when used on each other lol.

    This was during Daydream (1995) and if im not mistaken, all of those harmonies are her harmonizing with herself. She was a backup singer before making it on her own and prides herself on her background arrangements. The vocals and harmonies on this song always give me goosebumps!
