Im a telehandler operator on various sites i wouid never do this as doing it is wrong the trusses couid break or weaken them and the driver needs to sacked i knew if the site manager saw he wouid stop him and tell him to place them on a truss rack if there is one. He must be agency probably there for day so he doesn't care where he puts them because he wont be there next day so its not his problem. As the hgv said it's not taylor fault but the rough arse on machine

Unbelievable. Not that Taylor Wimpey are mistreating a poor unsuspecting person's life savings, that a company that size with such a poor record gets away with it and is even helped by the government.

In 2014 I bought a new build property from TW for £750K. On paper the property looked fantastic but in reality it turned out to be an utter nightmare. We identified more than 6 A4 pages of snags - some just irritating but others downright unforgivable and illegal. The worst were 1) after about 6 months of living in the property we get a call from TW to tell us that they have installed our rainwater harvester incorrectly - using physical valves to separate the dirty rainwater from the mains water. This is illegal and the valves should have been air valves to ensure that no water can cross contaminate. They came in - turned our water supply off and took samples to see if they had poisoned us - we had two children under 10 at the time. It took a week to get the mains back on and 2.5 years for these cowboys to reconnect our rainwater harvester. They had also connected the water from the driveway to the underground tank that stored the rainwater - the problem with that is that the hep20 plastic pipes used to transport the rainwater to the toilets dissolves in presence of oil / petrol (its clearly set out in the hep20 manual!) - I spotted that - not them (the so called experts) and they were made to re route the water from the drive to the soakaway. 2) the house was meant to have zinc cladding - but they used galvanized steel instead. The building manager continued to insist it was zinc until to showed him how a fridge magnet could connect to the cladding (zinc is not magnetic). They had to spray all the panels that were badly scratched and do major repairs as some areas had not been finished and simply covered over with a soft wood and pained the colour of the cladding. That process took around 2 months to complete the repairs. Just over a year later they wrote to us to let us know that they hadn't put the cladding up properly and had to take it all down and do again. That took another 2 months. 3) The floors weren't level and had to be redone and new carpeting and tiles provided. 4) Damp in the dining room / conservatory because they had not properly damp proofed the room 5) inadequate sized radiators that had to be replaced, 7) more than a third of the windows and the front door had to be replaced because they were either the wrong size (too small) or the wrong type of door. 8) inadequate ventilation in garage ceiling (main bedroom was above the garage that had to be replaced 9) extractor fans in bathrooms that had not been connected to outside - so moist air was just being pumped into the floor joists. 10) all the showers in the property bar one leaked and had to be redone.
The resin road leading to the property had not been constructed properly and was cracking literally within weeks of being laid. It took nearly 4 years to get them to agree to replace it and do it properly - the management company were useless so we advocated for ourselves.
Initially the site manager - some guy with a Greek sounding name was an utter disgrace - his solution to solving problems was to bring someone along and put some silicon over it. he said to me on one occasion that he was leaving my property last to fix because i had identified more snags than the other owners in the road - even though these issues were common to all the property's. He told me not to tell my neighbours - I told him the F off and told them.
We eventually got TW to take the problems seriously and the only credit I would give them is that they did eventually fix the problems- including extending the initial warranty from 2 to 4 years.
However - by that time they had ruined our experience and after 7 years we sold the house to new owners - in the knowledge that at least the house was in a good state but only thanks to our motivation to keep challenging TW to fix the property.
From my experience I would never buy a TW property again - if they can do this to a property that is now worth over £1m just imagine what level of care they would have for cheaper properties.
Thankfully my new home is perfect - bought new from a builder with a reputation for doing the job well and we only found 2 minor snags that were repaired straight away (literally within a week or reporting) even though my experience of a TW property had given me a real expertise of buildings regs which I used to check my new home thoroughly.
My advice to anyone buying a new home is to do your research about the house builder. If there are snags record them and keep pushing the builder to get them done - get your MP to help if necessary and put in a formal complaint to the Ombudsman if you dont get the response needed.
More generally we need a change in the law around new builds. legally you have more rights when buying a £10 kettle than a new property. You should have the right to return the property and get your money back or be provided with a replacement if the property is significantly faulty. That would be the only way that house builders would be motivated to build their homes well consistently.

At least the telehandler is on 4 wheels not like the one I recently saw at truely wanky (taylor wimpey)rodewelle green site near leeds, that's going to be an expensive house after they've rebuilt half of it and paid for the two cranes, two drivers and two banksmen they needed to right the machine. It was also nice to see some senior management on site, if they'd spent a bit more time there maybe they wouldn't have had so many problems. who knows.
