This man has a lot of scars, but he carries them like a badge of honor!, Not like scar that is used to justify poor behavior. I have nothing but respect for men who have been forced to endure the inhumanity of an impotent enemy! His strength is an example to us all. To all the Borg/Orcs out there. Notice the difference between the comments made by the different POW,s when they are released. Bogdan has his head held high, still believes in what he fought for, doesn't feel let down by his fellow man, is held in such high regard by people he has never met, has inspired people he has never met to do what they may never have thought to do, and is now surrounded by people who truly believe he has helped them and will be eternally grateful to him. Now ask yourself. What the fuck are you fighting for? I hope trying to keep his insatiable ego inflated is worth your and your country's loss.
Borg is an excellent example. When these people are detached from Russian propaganda, they revert to humans and I have witnessed it. Unfortunately, those in Ruzzia, who cannot disconnect from the hive, are just Borg drones.
I’m embarrassed at how we in the west often fail to live up to our values. But at least we have these values, I suppose. Ukraine is showing us how lucky we are, how freedom isn’t free and how we need to strive to live up to our values more and not take our luck and our system of government for granted. I look forward to Ukraine winning this war and, with a little help, showing us how it’s done, how a civil, democratic, open and tolerant society is the best form of government we have yet come up with. No human being can live up to the perfect ideal. All you can do is strive for it, and as a Christian I understand that I am always in need of grace, for no matter how hard I try, I fall short. Watching all of this unfold in the Ukraine definitely makes me reflect on the precious gift of Freedom. Just my 2¢ worth.

What a brave and resilient guy Bogdan is. I don’t think I could be that strong. Glad he is home and I hope he gets the support he will need. PTSD is there even when you don’t know it and it can linger for years. All of these heroes are going to need a lot of help.

Wow! This interview stirred so many thoughts and emotions. First off, I want to comment on how good Bogdan looks! Still thin, but he's already looking so much healthier! Secondly, what an inspiration he is! He took a terrible situation and benefited from it! Rather than focus on the misery, they focused on bettering themselves through the exchange of knowledge. That's pretty amazing!
I also want to say that while you state that the world is building another country, don't underestimate your contribution to the world. Hope! Courage! Inspiration! Slava Ukraini!

I am so glad that he is alive! And it's a weird thing to say, because I'm not glad he was imprisoned, but I am glad that he was there to support and be supported by his team. In situations like that people who are able to rise above and keep their spirits high increase everyone's chances of survival. I would be willing to bet money that there are people who are alive now who wouldn't have been if he had not been there. I hope that he recovers fully and continues to be a source of light and humor in the world. Thank you for sharing his story with us, and please thank him for talking about it.

Thank you for this interview. Everything sounds so cruel and unbelievably mean. One of my grandfathers was a POW who was captured by Russians in WW II and some of the stories your friend told sound very familiar. Russians soldiers haven't changed, as it seems.
Stay strong - we are on your side and we try to make those Ukrainians who stay here in Germany feel comfortable. You aren't alone!

I’m sorry that your grandfather had to suffer the misery ass being a POW in World War II Russia. But, history has shown that Soviet POWs held by Germany were also viciously treated. The humane end compassionate treatment of POWs is absolutely Critical for the integrity of a country in times of war.
My great uncle served on the river Imjin in Korea with the Royal Ulster Rifles, survived being a POW and made it back to Ireland....

I work as a teacher here in Germany and working from kids from Ukraine is quite a challenge - but all the other children are so kind and do their very best to make those from Ukraine feel welcomed and comfortable. I hope we will all get through this stupid crisis and then we will all meet in Ukraine and have a nice time...

My greatest respects to Bogdan for coming through his captivity. It is clear that he was not well treated…he needs feeding up & lots TLC which I am sure he will be getting now. It is truly ironic that Putin’s war is making the state of nationhood in Ukraine so strong it is almost a tangible thing. Ukraine is showing the world what it TRULY means to love your country, to have courage & resilience & to find beauty, laughter & comradeship even in the darkest times.
