do you think that the manga readers dissatisfaction with the ending of the manga is what caused the changes in the first place? because that was the impression i was getting since i heard the manga ending was disatisfying and the anime creators knew that.
@@halo.x.cutie.x.cortana.x.2001 i dont think so, maybe some manga readers have the idea of a "happy ending" or "rewarding ending" that everything will be alright in the end. But to be fair with the creator, i think the ending was just right for the story, given the plot is also about balance, everything comes with a price.. they can easily change the ending in the anime without the removal those important details along the way.

Goldy Pond told us a LOT about the world of the demons and Yugo was a nice "antagonist" to the loving family of grace field so... I got really sad that they justa cut everything out specially the sacrifice that Yugo makes at the end of the arc... :(

I never read the manga and season 2 is unwatchable. It's just bad. It's not even the same great show from season 1. It's turning into some generic anime. It's like Attack on Titan.

When Yugo didn’t show up, I thought it was gonna be like a Parasite situation. Like, he wasn’t sure about these kids and the potential trouble they could bring so he was hiding in the base. And I am super disappointed that isn’t what happened. (In the original post Yugo was Yugoslav because autocorrect sucks 😳)

The only good thing that's come out of these changes was my boyfriend(who hasn't read the manga yet) enjoying the look of horror on my face as I watched episode 4 and realized the show is dead to me.
Oh my gosh I saw red when you said maybe Norman took down goldy pond instead of Emma. I have gross feelings about how they’re treating Emma’s character and taking one of her most amazing accomplishments and most impactful moments and giving to a male main character would just send me into a rage.

The manga is definitely worth reading. I will warn you that the ending is a bit rushed and disappointing, but still worth reading.

FMA at least had the excuse of having the story still ongoing when the first anime went off in its own direction.
PN's story is concluded, so the fact that the mangaka is party to this alternate take on the story makes me wonder if this is what he originally wanted but couldn't get, or just wants something different for the anime.
I feel like the manga would have been a straight up masterpiece if they hadn’t rushed the last half. I put way too much hope in the anime to fix the ending.
I think I just need to accept that (as much as I love it), The Promised Neverland will never be quite as incredible as it could have been, and figure out how to move on.

I know nothing about the Promised Neverland because I do not do well with horror, but I’m watching this (and Geoff’s video) because I live for anime drama.
From an outside perspective, it really feels like the creators of the anime should have been more open about what their plan is. I know suspense is important but.... not at the expense of people you know, actually watching your show.
(Also it’s so fun to hear about arcs and shit I know nothing about. “Goldie pond is perfect” is a statement I completely believe because I have no evidence otherwise.)

We all thought the anime-original stuff was going to be post-Goldy Pond because why the hell would you even think about changing anything to the best part of the manga.

As an anime watcher I was lost the second they added the “pursers” into the story. Because they looked like they were men and we never have seen grown men in tpn. The obvious reason being that the only humans who were ever saved but being not killed where girls. It just seemed really out the story to have grown men that were with the demons added to the story out of nowhere with no context.
I honestly feel like yuugo is alive at that new location with all the goldy pond kids , if they are we probably won't see them until the last few minutes of episode 11

I really hope the season doesn't end with Mujika info-dumping the promise and how to make a new one so that the kids don't have to show off the fact that they're actually geniuses (which Goldy Pond and their incident earlier with the vampire roots were great demonstrations of them using their intelligence and the meager resources they're got to survive, tho I don't think taking out the latter was all that bad).
Anime only here. The biggest disconnect was the Human Hit Squad and the bunker raid. Humans have been established as a rare resource, why would they send them in as mooks? If they're not that rare after all, why would the humans not knock first and use the fact they are humans to lull the kids into a false sense of security? Why would the just explode the door with MP5s? Total left field.
I really wish we could have arc where Emma enters the Mom program and ends up being a big sister at Gracefield.
The idea of Yugo coming now wouldn’t make sense since he was supposed to die, along with Lucas at the bunker 😩 I finally read the manga after Norman coming back and was completely thrown off.. They skipped out so much of Emma’s character development, she went through so much, and now I don’t think it’s even gonna end the same 😭😭😭

As I said, I copied this from the comment I left on Geoff's video, but Goldy Pond was the second best arc, right after the first one that the first season covered, but honestly, everything AFTER Goldy Pond is so bad and chock full of asspulls and deus ex's that anything the anime is doing is probably better than that, because the manga made sure to kill any possible tension or conflict the story could have created otherwise. The first season ends with Emma having to compromise and leave the younger kids behind to be able to escape and survive and craft a plan that will actually allow her to save everyone. What happens with Andrew was building up to something similar, the kids had to compromise, either give up their pacifism and kill him to save everyone else, or just... well, accept that he was going to capture/kill them. But at the crucial moment a demon conviniently appears and kills Andrew. And after that it's one after another. A continuous chain of lucky deus ex's and asspulls that make everything extremely convinient for the kids, so that they never have to actually work on the solution to a sticky situation, out of nowhere resurrections, cures and magic solutions, the kids practically become SPECTATORS to everything, they don't have to even work for their salvation. The manga got neutered, it's teeth pulled and then killed. No tension, no agency, no nothing. My interest and hopes for it absolutely smashed and beaten to the ground. It became little more than a parade for Demizu's designs, because at least the art was still cool, because a thriller with no threat is no thriller.
This is exactly why I stopped reading the manga. It felt like everyone was starting to have too much plot armor. I read TPN for the stakes. Now there are none
Thank you! The whole point of the story seemed to be that Emma's ideals could not be held, that her goals required compromise on her principles. But like you said, it was deus ex machina after deus ex machina to the point that the story didn't have any real message or theme other than "friends are awesome" by the end of it.
My guess is that, since everything goes sour after Goldy Pond, Kaiu Shirai wants to re-write that part of the story ASAP. Since Goldy Pond ends with a dead-end, they opted to skip it and start "fixing" the rest of the story. Whether they can actually manage to do that is to be seen, but since Shirai is heavily involved that's my best guess.
@@jptq39721 I mean, I would have liked it anyway if by the end Emma does accomplish everything she sets out to do, I'm not against happy endings, but only if the kids have to WORK for it, if they are the ones doing the stuff, and the planning and the cool things. But in the manga they are not, everything is handed to them after Goldy Pond. They do not get to do cool stuff and look smart, because everything is being done by other people.
I have a feeling that the Goldy pond arc will be the finally of this season

If that were true, why tf would they leave in big reveals extremely early in the S2 story? Doesn’t make any sense to spoil the material you’re selling
The fact that they’re messing with it in such a seemingly deliberate and manga-breaking way makes me hope they have something big planned. As a manga reader it is kinda thrilling not knowing what’s next, even if admittedly frustrating to see how much has been changed or removed. I’m really curious how it’s gonna go, it’s hard for me to believe they’d change so much without a plan in mind especially when the writer is on board. At the very least it’ll be fun to make comparisons I guess.

I really hope norman being a villain is more fleshed out, he was a semi bad guy in the manga but that was dropped so damn quickly. And having someone like norman turn to evil just makes sense to me.
I just read my first ever manga, spice and wolf, and I was super happy with that, but it left me with that ''finished the anime what next'' feeling. Guess TPN is gonna be my next manga to read.
Tbh I can't get over how they handled the escape from the bunker. One good but unfortunate thing about the Goldy Pond kids + Yugo and Lucas shows that yeah, some of these kids may actually die. Sacrifices happen, and it ramps up the tension that hey, *can* all the Grace Field kids survive? What will it cost to make it happen?
Instead in the anime they make it to the edge of the forest, are captured anyway, and a wild demon deus ex machina's them out of the situation, and the supposedly elite soldiers who grew up aware of the dangers of their world and doubtlessly trained to handle them... just fire wildly and stupidly and don't even take aim at the eyes (I guess they don't know for some reason??? hello? why?) before it just chomps down on them. The kids of course make it out unscathed, which makes their plot armor SUPER obvious.
Edit: Also the demon looked really bad, but I can overlook that if the story is good.
Loved this video, this is truly a shame, wating so long for a second season just to get nothing. At least we, manga fans, have each other to remember the lost ones. TPN deserved better.
As an anime only watcher, if I discount the fact of the missing stuff from the manga, my only complaint with the anime so far is that it feels like it goes really fast while ALSO feeling like no story is building up, almost like just random stuff happens, but we're like, what, 5-6 episodes in? and Normal just showed up, so who knows. I remain carefully optimistic.
I definitively am convinced to check the manga out, tho I struggle to read any manga that I don't physically hold in my hand, but I'll try.

As an anime-only who's way too spoiled and therefore not really bothered by the anime "ruining" things for me (because just being online already did so), I actually teared up when you said "stick with it, assuming you're enjoying it" - I was ready for this to be really, really against the anime (which would be fair) but just that small bit of validation HHHH-
I'm so sad that GP was spoiled for me so much during the airing of s2 (not s2 itself, I literally didn't know of the elements taken from the manga, but the comparisons and upset comments just really spoiled a lot for me), but there's a lot of things I want to see, even if I know they happen, so I'll definitely check the manga out after the anime ends (planning to do one volume per week, hopefully with my anime-only friends. one of them said "maybe" SO I'LL TAKE THEM WITH ME WHETHER THEY LIKE OR NOT pff- unless they backpaddle or announce something rly fast, then I'll stick with staying anime-only but I highly doubt that so- rip)
And I hope to see this anime as,,, well, something that forced to end in 1 season (and even their plot suffers from it because I think there's some good elements) and still has some merit, and then read the manga and love it for what it is instead of what could have been ^^
ps; idk if you speculated on this in the spoiler section, but my guess is that between huge new cast, manga being over, Norman being so popular in Japan and trio merch, those were probably the factors involved in doing what they did (and I doubt anyone creative did it, the producer first talked about deviating in the MAL interview so yeah. big RIP). I hate that it had to end so soon, but I'm trying to be understanding of that and be forgiving of some elements in the anime. It's a dip for sure but I love them all too much and I'm still excited to see where it goes (not in the trainwreck way, just actual hope haha) - but I don't see it as shitty as most people seem to.

I read the manga after I saw the first season of the anime. It took about 2 weeks and then I waited for the releases until the ending. I enjoyed it so much and was excited to see it animated. Buuut when I saw the first episode I decided I should wait and binge it when Ugo and Goldy Pond, every week a would hear about how disappointed everyone was so I just didn’t watch. I loved the manga too much to do that to myself. Promised Neverland Brotherhood please 😅

I was a massive fan of the anime since early 2020, I was refraining from reading the Manga past volume 4 and planned to read it as seaon 2 came out. (I personally preferred the art style in the anime to the manga and wanted to experience the story animated) I was literally so excited for season 2, like, my heart was racing within the first few seconds of the S2EP1. Needless to say I was so disappointed by ep3-5 hearing that they cut out so much and that the goldy pond arc that I had been hearing so much incredible stuff about for almost a year was completely skipped. I read the manga a few days ago and oh boy do I wish I could go back in time and tell my old self to just read the manga as soon as possible lmao
