LOOOOVE the new beast!
Make a video of cheapest cars with a duel clutch!
its not fullsize
We ran and still run these all over Africa and the Middle East. These are literally the most tactical rigs out there.
Stop making videos about the Lexus GX470, you’re making the price go up
Right im trying to buy one damn 😭😭
Yes, good luck finding one for a decent price without crazy mileage, I want one sub $10k but....
Lolol I know right?! I need to get a 4x4 for my job and these things are perfect! I just found them and realized they are literally Baby Land Cruisers for a quarter of the price. Hopefully they stay cheap for a bit longer.
@@ln6964 I'm with ya... keep it on the low
I'm in seattle and people are asking 15k for 2010 and 150,000 miles. Its ridiculous
So basically all the GX-470’s were owned by old rich people who never used them off-road
Yes
Yeppers! I live neat Lake Tahoe and I still see these cars driving around and parked on multi million dollar homes. Must be something about this car that makes some people really keep it for long term.
EXACTLY. Was very expensive, top of the line, and the people who could afford them did not run them off road.
Basically
I looooove my 05.
People! Please stop telling other people to buy these things. Let's continue to keep them a secret please. Thank you.
Too late haha. Just saw a stock gx with 180k miles for $17k 😂
200k+ miles are now no cheaper than 15k and around 105k miles is no cheaper than 20k now. Super unfortunate but it is what it is

It’s nine months later and now anyone with a GX460/70 is all “No low balls I KNOW WHATS I HAAAVVE”
I started looking at these a year too late! Still generally better value than used 4runners.
As a 4Runner owner… I agree!!
Used 4runners are in high demand, costly and they have often been thrashed unlike the GX.
@@j_freed True that GXs can often be in (way) better condition, but unfortunately GX is also very in demand. Very few 4x4s left that haven't been "discovered"
U would be stupid to buy a 4runnner over this
@@kylegustafson6761 the Sequoia is going up in price also. I was looking at 300k+ miles and dude wanted 6k. I brought it down to 2.5k and he took it.
bought my 05 gx470 from my neighbor who had purchased it brand new, 1 owner 88k miles for 7k. Got an absolute killer price
Now they're double the price with 2x the miles.
I've been on the market for one, and now all the prices went up. It was the best kept secret in the overlanding community, well at least in the US.
Home boys in the Middle East be riding a GX470, down the street, on the two side wheels🙏
I wish this video didn’t exist. Better that people didn’t know this absolute monster exists and keep it a hidden secret ;)
It can still be removed
Most people don’t have that amount of cash to just spend it on a car for over landing.
Nice vid! We love the GX470 so much, we own 2 of them. Our 2004 has 309,000 miles and still drives like new.
I plan on buying one of these real soon! I probably won’t do any major modifications early on, since this vehicle is already incredibly capable, a simple set of off road tires will go a long way.
Just bought one.
85k miles from someone who didn’t know what they have
Lucky! I only see two in my area. One for 6.9k for 509k miles and 10k for 300k miles... Just gotta wait it out

We bought our brand new in 2007 for $50k after our 4yrs old Landrover Disco 2 broke down on highway with only 40k on it. Our GX470 now has almost 200k only problem was alternator replaced once. It’s everything like u mention in the video great in outdoor snow and comfortable as everyday car. Wife wish she can change car but it still running strong.
I sold a Land Rover Discovery II to get this GX470 as well. Congrats on us for escaping that nightmare!
Bought my 2005 GX with only 117k miles just 3 weeks ago for $10k and absolutely love it so far! I’m the third owner, and everything he says is true, the first two owners literally only ever took it to Lexus for maintenance every 3k miles (shown on the CarFax). Can’t wait to lift it and take it on the trails around SoCal
See you out there Richard!
Nice video. We love our 06 GX. Minor correction, but the air suspension is unrelated to the sport/comfort settings. That setting adjusts the shocks. Air suspension does two things, levels the vehicle when additional weight is added and raises and lowers the back end for increased ground clearance or easier loading. You will typically see both systems deleted when custom suspension is added.
There’s a 2006 I’m going to look at tomorrow at a little corner lot that I pass on the way to work every day.
Totally agree. LOVE our 2005 GX470. This goes through anything.
I own an 05 gx 470 276k miles. Runs through snow like a beast, rides like a dream. Only major - head gasket replacement due to tiny leak at 265k.
Buying my 2004 with 210Ks next week. $7000 out the door! Thanks for cementing what I felt I knew to be true!
i love my 2008 GX. "let's go places."
I just bought one last week and I am in love with it already. Amazingly comfortable and capable vehicle.
Welcome to the good life!
Thank you so much just went off roading for the first time recently and love your content really helping decide what type of rig I want
nice! Hope you get a great rig!
I own a lexus gx470, I got into 4 car accidents with it 2 were my fault still rides like the day I bought it and has 300k miles with no major issues other than the accident repair 🤣
Damn the thing is a beast
Great video and helpful information. Your opinions/facts helped me decide on which vehicle to purchase for my next overlanding build. I was waffling between a full size pickup like the Dodge PowerWagon or one of the many 4x4 SUVs and have now decided on the GX470. Question that comes to mind maybe this forum can help me understand is 'Why do away with the KDSS system?' I've seen their are products available for improving on the KDSS system in the form of the pillows/airbags, solenoids/gauges so why not just make the KDSS system better and closer to 'bullet proof'? What I have heard is that when this type of leveling system fails it leaves you stranded and with very few options....
Opinions or real life experiences are appreciated...
Picked up an 07 gx470 5 years ago on the cheap, from my mother who wanted to downsize, loved the vehicle overall, hated the commuter MPG, it became my daughters first car 2 years ago, it will become my sons first car early next year...I originally thought I’d trade it in after my sons done with it but I’m thinking now I’ll hang onto it as an extra vehicle... over the last few years multiple people have told me it’s a great off road vehicle but I never really thought about it much. Mine is a black 07 with tan interior and 176k on it. It has an aftermarket tow hitch and I was told it has a towing package with a transmission cooler and an oversized high output alternator. I have no idea if the towing package is true and if that was even offered from the factory. Maybe someone else in the know can chime in on that.
Subscribed, can't wait to see you build it.... BTW the 470 was the sister truck to the V8 4x4 Toyota 4Runner, made side by side on the same production line. Incredible drivetrain, mine has over 300K miles from new with zero issues.
I have a 08 and the Mark Levison sound system is freaking fantastic!
Best sound system EVER in a factory automobile
Excellent review- I'v been saying this for years about this particular vehicle. I have an RX 450H, but ave always wanted one of these.
Rx series got nothing to do with gx ,or 4 runner, those are built on truck chasis and suv body.

Awesome! So glad we could help!
Thanks for driving the prices up! Trick. Thanks for a great and informative video!
If you spend close to the same amount of effort on your GX as you seem to on your hair, this build should be pretty epic.

Excellent video! They really are great cars-best value for the money. Swap the air suspension to OME and you’ve got an off road rig for years to come!!
Hey I am a big fan here watching all the latest uploads!!
ditto that
lets gooooooo! what you think of the new rig for Ideal?
Another advantage of the GX is that 6500# towing capacity. If you plan to tow regularly consider keeping the suspension stock. Now I know that's not the trendiest path to take cause everybody wants to put on waaay more off road suspension than they probably will ever use but hear me out, a properly functioning rear airbag system will keep your rig level regardless of the load. It's nice to be able to lower the back a couple of inches when loading heavy things in cargo area or raise it a couple of inches when off road for clearance. As far as the sport/comfort modes, I find that sport is what I use 90% of the time but when the paved road ends and you get into the washboards on gravel or on a trail or even just a rough stretch on the interstate comfort mode is the way to go.
A good point, I'll be happy to sell my functioning air bag system to whoever wants to tow!
I’ve been running on for stock for 9 years now, I always mean to upgrade it then I go off road and remember It doesn’t need anything.
Yeah I'm pretty sure my modifications have made the truck worse.
Congratulations on your new Lexus. It truly is an “ideal” vehicle. They are too often overlooked. I’ve considered them myself. But, wife prefers the RX. So, as I would never be rock crawling or off-the-track camping (with her).... I, or sorry ... WE would much prefer a low mileage RX with the “Ultra-premium package” (Mark Levinson, semi-aniline leather, more wood (steering), heads-up, .. every option), than the less attractive and much more fuel guzzling GX470. But... if my wife didn’t prefer a chocolate on her pillow at a hotel with a concierge and valet parking... I’d be all over this GX! I’m with you brother, I simply LOVE it! Thanks for a well thought out and edited video. Nice touches.
Kellington Link If you can swing it, the RX with the driving assist features was pretty sweet when I had one as a loaner. It dealt with stop and go traffic which was really nice at times. It was a sweet car.
Have a 2003 GX and love it. One owner before us, dealer serviced by them and us. Runs like a top with ~120,000 miles. LOVE it. And it can offroad. Was 4 Wheeler Mag SUV of the Year for TWO years, '03 & 04 and for good reason.
Great video, I’m currently in the market for a RX350 or GX, and I am now leaning towards the GX, I currently own a lifted overland Tacoma, I think it’s time to level up! Thanks for posting this video, great watch, great info!
Good luck!
One thing to note is that the 03-04 models can use regular 87 gas, the rest need premium. We own an 04 and an 08, since we drive fairly conservatively they drive the same.
04and03 are way better. I see cars as, how much to swap an engine if all goes bad.. engine for those two years 1.5k .. 05 and up.. 3.5k.. plus 03.04 has tranny dipstick..the rest dont. Yall can keep your 40 extra horses.. 235 is enough for me , plus the v8 has great torque to pull out quick.
Just curious. How high can you raise the air suspension at the front and the rear suspension with the airbag suspension on the GX?
Is there a specific year range to target? Also, I've heard the air suspension rots out... is that something to look out for?
Just bought one a couple days ago. At first I was nervous with it having 163,000 miles but I’m very confident in it now. It’s a beast 💪🏼
It'll last so many more miles. Congrats man!
Timing belt/water pump, spark plugs, fresh fluids, maybe start thinking about the alternator sometime soon. Wow. These vehicles when set up properly can get you comfortably to the top of most Colorado 4x4 trails (to put things in perspective if you know what terrain that is). Good choice
does it require premium gas? or can you just regular gas?
@@Ballzackk11 Colorado mountains are awesomeness.
@@roveirdatu3851 It isn't as peppy and gets worse mileage. Premium is worth it imho.

I bought an 06 Toyota Sequoia about a year ago for pretty much all the reasons he is saying to buy the GX470. Sequoias are basically a slightly larger version on a GX470, and they are both amazing vehicles. I bought it as a 4x4 with lockers and it is super capable off-road. The only real problem I've had with off-roading it is breaking ball joints, but that is a pretty simple fix if you can do it yourself. They have soo much space with the third row taken out. I just thought Id let you all know too also look at 1st get sequoias if you can't find a deal on a Lexus. I got mine with 255,000 miles on it for 4,400, so you can definitely find good deals on them also.
Might be a good option since GX's are so expensive now.
I absolutely loved my dad's sequoia. I still give him a hard time 8 years later for trading it for a dodge. That thing scootted for a 5000+ pound vehicle and rode like a benz while doing it

DONE! 2008 GX 470 and its awesome! Congrats on a great vehicle! First thing I did was take the side steps off. Second thing I did was change the manifolds because they were leaking. Third thing I did was change the timing belt water pump. Did lots of driving around with three-quarter worn tires and found the thing was absolutely amazing Offroad. Then I went out and bought absolutely stock replacement tires. Yes stock replacement tires. These work plenty good enough for me. Enjoy! LOTS. Of places to do mild off reading in NJ.
Yeah the side steps need to go on mine, look so goofy.
