- The weather may be cold, but the river is calling, so Kate, Jim and Kava head to the gravel beaches of the Yellowstone River to do some rock hunting. Getting there is part of the adventure, and once there, they discovered some beautiful agates, fantastic petrified and agatized wood, and the biggest piece of aventurine Kate has yet found. The treasures of the river never disappoint!

Great finds! I love the petrified wood. I wish I could find it that abundantly here in Kentucky. I've found a few pieces but mostly marine fossils.
It really is a treat.
A drone or a compass would make life easier . As far as finding the river in unknown territory...
:D I actually did use a compass to make sure I was headed in the right direction - and yep, a drone definitely would help.

The second one, as you said has, do have tubes in it. That is one of my favorite formations. I have one that the whole nice agate is concentrated with them like it got hit with a shotgun.

Wow, it may have been cold, but you sure found a lot! Just amazing finds! Some huge agates and that tube one is going to be fabulous cut! And you just cleaned up on the agatized wood! Some really beautiful pieces! And Jim's clear agate that he found all by himself, will make a great tumbler too! What an amazing bunch of rocks! And my favorite one was the stromatolite! Such neat colors in it too! ❤ Thanks you two, for taking us along on this cold spring hunt! It was awesome!

SO envious you’re out and about already! Are they saying in your area whether there will be significant high water this year or did you have low snowpack?
We had a very mild winter, so we'll be lucky if there is much of a rise at all.
Cats and rock water, right? Bathtub droplets, that water u dip a watercolor brush into, the lil weirdos. 😂

I couldn't believe it when I heard you say, what is it about rock water that attracts cats? Mine do the same. They actually prefer it to their fresh water. I don't get it.😸😼
Are you just cleaning them with water?
Yep! There is a bucket of water sitting on the towel. The minerals in it seem to attract my cats, because I never get through a session without ONE of them drinking from it!
