    I was born in Somerset Kentucky in 1953 but moved to Central Indiana in 1957 where I grew up. This channel is very special to me and I thoroughly enjoy watching all the videos. My older brother lives in Southern Indiana and has for many years. I get very homesick for Indiana watching these videos. I left Indiana in 1973 and never returned for more than short visits, but this channel is making me nostalgic in ways that can even bring me to tears. I love this channel. Thank-you so much for such quality video where I can see things I never got to see growing up there in the small town of Brownsburg and going off to the Navy in 1973. I have been in Florida for almost 29 years now.

      Wonderful comments like yours, is why I keep making films about Indiana. Not everyone gets this place, but the ones that do, love Indiana like a beloved relative. I’m one of those people! I see people and smiles from the past, bitter-sweet memories of wonderful days. If I can bring some of that back, or show people places to make new memories, then what I’ve done isn’t in vain. 🙂

      Both of my folks have been gone for decades, but I see their faces all over Harrison County, bringing back so many fond memories of our travels. I wanted to capture the joy of what I saw, when we first visited, remembering the sunshine, the crisp morning air around the old courthouse, the smell of the old caves and excitement. I filmed Harrison County over and over, many years, until I found those sunny, happy days again. I hope this film continues to bless other people, and helps them remember their happy moments.

I know I take the Sherman Minton or George Rogers Clark bridges to Louisville, just to avoid tolls. It’s $4.20 each way without a transponder.

      Have not been to the Wesley House. I have been to several confirmed southern Indiana Underground Railroad locations, and places people have said were such. Lots of places along the Ohio River, as they were shallow areas you could wade across, before the locks were installed.
      In New Albany, the Carnegie Museum has s nice section, talking about the local people that ran the Underground Railroad. While slavery was always illegal in Indiana, it wasn’t illegal for slave bounty hunters to come here, and if they found someone helping them, beat up the helpers.

    I believe I can remember my dad mentioning a Corydon, like maybe that’s where he & my mother went to pick me up when they had adopted me. He mentioned so many places throughout the years. I always assumed that Corydon was in Kentucky seeing as that’s where I was born but when me and some other siblings were taken out of the home, seems like we were staying with a older sister in Patriot? It was in the southern part of Indiana, maybe south eastern part. It’s been years since I was down that way along with a brother that had searched and found me. We traveled to the place where we were born and ended up before being taken out of the home.

    • @AdventureswithRoger
      @AdventureswithRoger  Před rokem +1

      Don’t put it off, write a date on the refrigerator and go! Corydon is in Harrison County, Indiana, across the Ohio River from Kentucky. Patriot, Indiana is also along the same river, northeast an hour and 45 minutes. If you first visit Madison, and drive along the river, it’s a beautiful experience.
      Corydon was also the home of orphan James Best, who built a career in Hollywood movies and TV. He was most famous for his role as “Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane”, in the original Dukes of Hazzard TV series.

      @@AdventureswithRoger I’ve been to Madison to, my adoptive mother had a foster mother that she would go & visit from time to time & from what I was told she apparently helped with the adoption when they adopted me. I can remember us driving down a hillside and seeing water running down the rock or stone wall before getting into Madison. I was quite young at that time but I can remember certain things about Madison. There was a historical home not too far from the river that we went through. I love the older historical homes & getting to go through them. But I can’t drive to these places on my own, I have to have someone take me. It sucks having to depend upon someone else to go on trips like that. My husband can’t handle a lot of walking either so that’s why I don’t get to go to any places that I would love to go to! I’m used to walking long distances, so the walking or hiking wouldn’t bother me none!

    Those winding, hilly roads you're talking about? My husband was from norther Ohio & I grew up in Floyd & Harrison counties, but we met while both living in Florida (flat, straight roads). Once I retired, we moved to southern Ohio, which is very much like southern Indiana. Because he'd only known me in Florida, he was at first afraid to let me drive here. I told him that he just didn't understand - that I'd learned to drive on roads like these. He admitted that he finally got it when we went a couple of years ago to visit my family around New Albany & Corydon.

      I don’t drink, so have never covered wineries. A couple of my friends, a married couple, visit them all the time. I told them they should make a channel about it!

    It's with sadness that I heard Butt Drugs closed its doors for the last time! Loved my Butt shakes! We'd make a point to visit when we visit from northwest Indiana.

      Lots and lots of people feel the same. I hate to see a beloved family business, and institution, close. Salem, Indiana has a drugstore on their square, with a soda fountain. Over at old downtown Jeffersonville, Schimpff’s has both the fountain and is a candy factory. A little closer to you is Zaharako’s, in Columbus, Indiana. There are a few still out there, but they are definitely thinning out!

    What are those huge potholes that are scattered throughout the county? Theyre really easy to see on google maps. Some are circular ponds. Some are just round holes in the ground. Very peculiar.

      Sink holes. It’s a very pronounced karst limestone environment, with over 600 known caves. It’s a cavers paradise! 🙂
