  • Again for you, again a platform, an NES exclusive at its release time and a pretty good one if you ask me. Scrooge McDuck wants to be the richest duck in the world, will he succeed? Discover it watching this walkthrough...
    (From Wiki)
DuckTales is a video game based on the Disney animated TV series of the same name. It was first released in the United States for the Nintendo Entertainment System by Capcom in 1989. In this game, Scrooge McDuck travels around the world collecting treasures to become the world's richest duck. The game was also ported to Game Boy. This game is unrelated to DuckTales: The Quest for Gold, which was released on a variety of personal computers in the early 1990s.
DuckTales is often a subject of NES-related nostalgia and was generally popular. The game provides a good example of the work produced by Capcom in the late 1980s and early 1990s, along with such titles as those in the Mega Man franchise; both shared key personnel such as Tokuro Fujiwara, Keiji Inafune and Yoshihiro Sakaguchi. DuckTales has much in common with the Mega Man games: bright and colorful graphics, tight play control with unique gameplay dynamics (such as using Scrooge's cane as a weapon, tool, and pogo stick), and non-linear gameplay.
The player controls Scrooge McDuck, the richest duck in the world, on a quest for even more treasure. Scrooge can jump using the A button; his cane is used as a weapon to defeat enemies or strike objects (B button) and as a pogo stick to jump higher (A then B + Down). There is a wide variety of helpful non-player characters and enemy characters.
DuckTales comprises five levels that can be played in any order (similar to the Mega Man games). A boss guards the treasure that Scrooge seeks at the end of each level. There are also two hidden treasures: a golden ring in the African Mines level and a golden mirror in the Moon level. Upon finishing all five levels, the player is directed back to Transylvania for the final boss fight. DuckTales contains some non-linear gameplay, in that the player can revisit levels to get items that unlock parts of other levels.
The NES version of DuckTales contains an alternate ending shown when the player finishes the game with at least $10,000,000 and has found both hidden treasures. The alternate ending consists of the same newspaper at the end of the game except the picture shows Scrooge McDuck with a crown on his head, and the paper also states that he "stunned the world with his discovery of 2 Lost Treasures."
There is another, lesser known alternate ending, shown when the player finishes the game with $0. Doing so requires very careful planning and is the most difficult ending to obtain. Scrooge is seen sobbing and the newspaper states that he has "lost his fortune in his search for the legendary five treasures. He will use them to rebuild his empire."

same here! I played a lot of NES games as a young kid, but my brother and I never really beat any early on, even though all our friends did (punch out, zelda, etc.). We just didn't have the patience (hyperactive twin boys, heh). I loved the mess out of this game because it was the first game I truly beat on my own (and it's easy to see why..... the game is redonkulously easy, and fast).

any other games I beat prior to snes days were via cheat codes (Ikari Warriors - "abba abba abba") or w/ the help of game genie, lol. Quite a few snes games I couldn't even play w/o cheat codes. Y's III is one of them, lmao. Just didn't have the patience for that game.... jesus... even with the debug menu and invincibility I was always in awe of how hard it seemed (by how much dmg I 'took').

Still got the picture somewhere of me as my little nerdy kid self holding the score I got, lol. I think I scored around 180,000 points. I won a free game rental and chose Ducktales. I made a great choice, cause Ducktales is one of the best NES games of all time.
You think Shovel Knight gets made if not for Ducktales? When I first saw Shovel Knight's attack, I immediately thought of this game. Definitely had to of been inspired from this.

Chances are, if a Japanese dev was working on a game based on a western based property, or even their own country's, it would turn out fine (not always the case, but still), if a western based developer was working on a property from the west, chances are, it would ultimately end up in disaster. I beat this game when I was 4 or 5. My parents thought I was some kind of prodigy. Kids today don’t have enough appreciation for these older games that didn’t tell you what to do at every turn. It was all trial and error, you had to improve every time you got to a part you couldn’t beat before. Could be really frustrating but rewarding when you finally beat the game. I remember playing this, Super Mario 3, and Mega Man 4 for a LONG time when I was a little kid.

Today's attention spans aren't long enough for younger gamers to be able to have enough patience and perseverance to finish games from the 8 and 16 bit eras. Now I know there are some who would be willing to take up that kind of challenge, but today's games are catered to them for that reason, the attention span of a fruitfly.

One of my favourite games on NES when i was a child. In Italy i played it in 1991-92. The music was also the same of the cartoon and was translated in Italian.

When my friend had this game, and Chip and Dale 1, I wrote them off as silly kids games, these days I no longer do so, and have both games, their sequels, and both Game Boy Duck Tales games as well. The sweetest deal I found, Duck Tales 2 NES, and Chip and Dale 2 NES, combined $60 cart only at a retro game shop years back (the games were both in the $100 to $150 price range each, even at that time!), a steal of a lifetime (till I found Cowboy Kid, also locally for $5, cart only).
Now Duck Tales 1, and Chip and Dale 1 have steadily increased in price.

One thing I love about this version is how they did the background. The remaster pissed me off for years with how the backgrounds were done. It made the characters look like they were in a gaint world from mario 3. Hated that.
