    Oh wow - that 1969 London Tube map! I would love to see that. My first visit to London was in June 1971 and when I returned this year for the first time since that trip, it took me a little while to adjust to the Tube because it seemed A LOT more complicated than it used to be. Of course that didn't surprise me because a lot can happen over the course of 50 years, but I wondered what it looked like back in 1971 and you just happened to find the map!

    Great video. I'm not in London, but when I meet any visitor I always try and get them to visit the Regent's Canal - it's a great 9 mile walk from Paddington to Limehouse basin, passsing loads of interesting places. A particular favourite is the narrowboat pub. The canal towpath is on the north side of the Canal so gets the full blast of the sunshine all day and has a lovely warm microclimate

    I loved this video since it tell us about places which are off the beaten track. There are many hidden gems in London which many don't know about, I happened to visit a few in May & June 2023. I am from India and I visited UK for the first time this year on my friend's insistence, he has been living in London for the past 45 years. One interesting place was Forest Hill, it is a picturesque place which has a small botanical garden and a museum; I wouldn't have known about this place if my friend hadn't taken me there. The other is Ladywell Fields Park, a very pretty place near Catford station in Lewisham Borough, it has a stream flowing through it and has a history dating back to the Roman times; my friend's house is right opposite this park. Another interesting place which is actually outside London is Seven Oaks, a quaint little town in Kent, my friend took me there primarily to show me the English countryside. I plan to visit London again in May/June 2024 and try to discover for myself a few more hidden gems.

    Brick Lane in general for some of the best food in London- it is a city that runs on curry (at least late at night). Also London has loads of amazing museums, but few people know about the Sir John Soane's Museum. It is just an amazing collection of "stuff" of one of the great collectors of Georgian England.

    • @dianacoles1017
      @dianacoles1017 Před 7 měsíci +2

      As a Londoner I totally disagree. Brick Lane restaurants are mainly Bengali, not Indian and actually tend to be generically 'indian'. And not that special. Indian food varies hugely from area to area and there are actually many far far better restaurants that specialise in cuisines from specific regions.

    Thank you so much for your channel! It was one of the channels that helped to make my first ever trip to Europe last April such a success. I absolutely loved London thanks to you! Also kudos to the advice about using my own credit cards! Didn’t need to purchase any type of card to put money on and use there. My cards and Apple Pay were all I needed except for a few merchants that only took cash, of which $200 pounds was more than enough cash for a week!
    I noticed in this video you blurred a lot of people’s faces. How do you usually go about getting permission from people? Do you make a general announcement and ask if anyone doesn’t want to be filmed, or do you go up to each individual that was in the background and ask them if they are ok or not with being filmed?

I was in Standard Premier class (right in the middle). Everywhere I read that I would be able to access the Eurostar Lounges in the train stations using my Amex Platinum. I find your comment very interesting. I don’t know the Forest of Dean, but in my experience the countryside although very beautiful in parts is somehow less accessible and less user friendly than London parks and Green spaces, which have lots of benches to sit on when you feel tired, cafes, toilets and good public transport all around you.

    What’s your favourite way to get around London seeing as you go to lots of different areas?😊

  • @neutrino78x
    @neutrino78x Před 7 měsíci

    Love and London, you might be the best person to ask this! Because you grew up here in the USA but you live in London.
    Ok, so, is it possible to get apple cider in London? What are some examples of places you would recommend to get it?
    I guess it's possible that "apple cider" means something different in NYC....here in the San Francisco Bay Area, it means you took apple juice (pasteurized) and added spices like ginger or nutmeg, and sometimes caramel, and then heated it to the same temperature as "hot chocolate". 🙂
    Starbucks makes a version of it that they call "Caramel Apple Spice" (like a PSL but no caffeine).
    I recently saw a video from Lawrence Brown, he does the Lost in the Pond youtube channel, he's a Brit who now lives in Chicago (he has dual citizenship now). He said that what Americans call "hard cider" is just called "cider" in Great Britain. But what I want doesn't have any alcohol in it. 🙂
    It's like "Wassail" but NOT based on an alcoholic drink! "Apple cider" does not contain alcohol. (I don't drink, because it tastes disgusting to me, I don't want to get drunk, don't want a hangover, and want to remember what happened! 🙂)

    • @loveandlondon
      @loveandlondon  Před 7 měsíci +1

      You can see if any place offers non-alcoholic cider but we don't think it's very common!

      What sells as apple cider in the US is more or less the same as the "not from concentrate" apple juice which can be found in any supermarket in the UK.

      "What sells as apple cider in the US is more or less the same as the "not from concentrate" apple juice which can be found in any supermarket in the UK."
      Incorrect.
      We just call that "not from concentrate apple juice", just like you guys do. For example the brand "simply apple".
      "Apple cider", here in the USA, is when you take that juice, add spices to it, such as nutmeg and sometimes bits of pumpkin, and sometimes caramel, and then heat it to the same temperature as coffee or hot chocolate.
      Note that what I'm talking about is a non-alcoholic drink. (I can't stand alcohol! I have tried it and I can't stand it. 🙂)
      Warm apple cider is quite delicious 🙂
      But I also enjoy hot chocolate, and afaik hot chocolate is available across the pond, so I could still get a drink I like 🙂

      I will add, if you ever fly out here to San Francisco, let me know, I'll escort you on the light rail to one of the places that sells warm apple cider! There's a place within walking distance of Golden Gate Park that sells it. You don't need a car for day to day life here in SF, I'm one of the 30% in the Bay Area who doesn't even have a driver license. But yeah, once you've tried warm apple cider, you'll wonder how you got by all those years in Britain without it 🙂

    I'm simultaneously disappointed and relieved that you didn't include Lamb's Conduit Street in Bloomsbury in your video. It's the best little street in London in my opinion and I should know as I lived there for 20 years. It has a village high street vibe, with lots of independent shops, coffee bars and restaurants and part of its charm is that its off the beaten tourist track. I realise I've just given the game away with this comment, but happily no one pays any attention to me. 😏
