  • After a 2 year absence, competition was fiercer than ever this year in the Clubsprint category of WTAC. This year we saw the launch of the first full aero, bespoke aero, Clubsprint car in the form of Jonathans A90 Supra. In this video we get into what's been changed on the car vs factory, and how the car is as fast as it is.

    A 1:37.0 is pretty fast for something that you can unbolt the splitter from and go for a run to the shops in! What's everyone's thoughts on the car?
    p.s. That lap was done with the AC still on. Probably not a lot of WTAC cars doing that ;)

      First of all, congratulations on your journey, you are such an example and inspiration for many engineers. I work with OEM product design (PSA part of Stellantis, and I'm moving to Renault) and after some years gathering experience maybe I want to give it a try at motorsport engineering, and of course you inspire me.
      About the project, it's a very nice project indeed, very complete. Congrats on the work of the design and also the composite company to get the manufacturering done.
      I wonder how was the suspension tuned and if they optimized it for the downforce and aero balance the car was going to have, and also how you setup the aero balance with the client (if that won't give any secret of your project).
      That's a topic I'm curious about, because from looking at the onboard (and this is just a guessing work from my part), the car seemed with too much corner exit understeer. Maybe because of the driving technique and that it seemed that the car could have more steering angle on some corners... But it appeared as it could have more entry rotation and power oversteer / exit oversteer. Maybe this rotation is something that can be achieved with driving technique, but I wonder how the setup and design were done in therms of the overall balance of the car.

    • @andrewbrilliant
      @andrewbrilliant Před 2 lety +6

      3d scan and custom design are a necessity if you want to compete at a high level. Shelf parts aren't useless but on a different scale of performance. I haven't tested this exact car, but in general, generic fitted parts are 1/4 or 1/3rd the downforce of custom though it depends on the rules and details of the car in question.
