This is Melissa, thank you so much for playing this. Tony was overjoyed. Love you guys!!! It's nice to watch another couple enjoying music so much together. Tony and I met before a Nine inch Nails concert 25 years ago. We bonded over the Cure and Sting and have been enjoying discovering music together ever since!

Melissa, what a nice request! The mark of a great couple: sharing music. Really enjoy this album. I could consider a marathon of Riverside’s range. NnL, great reaction again. Thanks. I won’t pressure Lexita - she’ll probably pick her bass up when she’s ready. Also, I love that you’re adding songs to your playlist so you get to hear them again - one listen isn’t always sufficient. And we can’t survive on Steely Dan alone! Hahaha, even I mix it up. 🤪

Michele Michele I agree. Some of my favorite songs by my favorite bands I didn't bond with the first listen. A lot of the more proggy songs I like that take you on a journey sound better and better the more you know and can anticipate the winding road on the journey.

If it wasn’t for folks like you who enjoy doing reactions, I would never have heard of this band. I consider myself a person who has a wide taste in music that transcends so many genres. So when I hear a song like this, I wonder why I never heard this before. Probably because most radio stations only play 3 minute ditties so full of fluff without any real meaning. If the song exceeds 5 minutes it doesn’t have a hope in hell of getting any air play. Thank you for this post. A new band for me to look up.

This was my lullaby ... checked the channel before going to bed ... and they sing about "pillow" :-)
For me there are honestly 2 Riversides, the one with Piotr and the one without Piotr. I like them both, but the special sound of Piotr's guitar is not there anymore. I just listened to Second Life Syndrom this weekend and the guitar always catches me, it's simply magical !
I had to laugh about your words at the end :-) No, I don't have a Spotify account and don't plan to get one ... so I'm not gonna mess up your playlists; you'll get my recommendations in small portions :-))))

Well, on Wasteland, the album after Piotr's death Marius Duda played both guitar and bass. So we haven't yet heard a recording of new guitarist Maciej Meller. But he was good in the band Quidam for many years so I am hopeful their 1st album recorded with him will be another gem.

I may have suggested Discard your fear 1st off this one, or Caterpillar and the Barb Wire, or #Addicted. Anyway now you can check this whole album out! If you post a video of Lex playing base to this song a year or 2 from now I bet I'll be moved to cry lol.
And I am overjoyed that my trying to get you two into this band has gotten some of your followers and friends into them!
Since unfortunately they don't play great music on the radio anymore these days, but a few bands still create it, word of mouth through social media is now one of the best ways to discover it. Their lyrics are always melancholic (with a few exceptions), but well written, and topics I'm interested in . . .
A type of music I have gotten into since discovering them and other bands at their beginnings.
    "Hey you
    Somewhere in the mirror
What happened today with your face
    Your eyes
    Sank in their hollows
And the ocean of your disgrace
    It's no shame
You haven't done what you were supposed to
And did what you didn't want to
    One up
    The amount of self-deception
    Slowly starts killing you
    Inside
    You're faced
    With a new decision
Between the dawn and the day
    Melting
Between the life you got used to
    And something you don't understand
    I know
    It demands an effort
And the pills to get rid of this pain
    Not a chance
    I'm sorry, Birdy
I'm your favourite voice inside your head
    Hey you
    Rise and shine
You must learn to stand your ground
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?
    You kept yourself to yourself
    Day by day
Growing delusions in the blue flowerpots
    Your filter bubble
    On the touchscreen display
    Has recommended to you
    What you should want
While you've been watching too much daytime TV
    Dreaming on demand
Your from tomorrow just became yesterday
    Made you crawl again
    Under the bed covers
    Hey you
    Rise and shine
You must learn to stand your ground
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?
    Ooh
    Hey you
    Rise and shine
You must learn to stand your ground
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?"
This was sadly the last album with the late-Piotr Grudziński.

I love Marillion. Especially when Fish was the singer, The music is still great without him but the singing doesn't have the same soul in my opinion without him. And he was an incredible lyricist. I would start them with the songs He Knows you Know, and the beautiful song Warm Wet Circles.

    • @Yesquire0
      @Yesquire0 Před 2 lety +1

@@tonys2899 Your right. Fish gave the band a different personality as its lead singer and composer. However, I find his vocals to be way sub-par for a prominent band, and singing poorly with great passion doesn't fix that issue for me. Hogarth, on the other hand, is a fabulous vocalist and just as good a composer as Fish ever was, and to my ear he sings even more passionately than Fish, and he has the great voice to enhance his passion. The Fish tunes have zero emotional connection for me, while Hogarth elicits earthquakes in my very soul. It saddens me greatly to see a reactor do a Fish-era song, because I fear it will turn off viewers new to the band who go away thinking the band sounds cool, but the singer sucks, and Marillion therefore is not worth a deep dive.
This is all IMHO. You are entitled to your humble opinion. Different strokes for different folks. We all have different personalities, likes, and dislikes. I just wanted to balance out your perspective. If anybody reading this exchange is influenced to check out Marillion, try both the pre-1989 and post-1989 versions of the band. The latter has way more material to explore, seeing Marillion has always been putting out new material since 1989, and has a new CD being released on March 4, 2022.
