I find , it's a matter of conviction. Some would say video games are a waste of time, and doesn't bring glory to God or strengthen the relationship, but I'm alone 164 hours a week (including a full time job) so when I play a game, a. I choose something that is appropriate and I wouldn't be ashamed of if Jesus knocked on my door. B. I lament and consider the word of Jesus in everything I do. C. I make sure that a hobby stays a hobby, it does not replace my prayers, it's not something I "hurry through" my commitments to God in order to play. It is a means to charge the batteries so that I'm fresh minded for better things like Bible Study, but also a way to relax without idle hands or thoughts. Now others...they might play video games to escape God, or to act out violent or inappropriate fantasies , which would make it not a glory to God but self glorification.
If you climb mountains because you wanna taste the air God supplies, have the solitude to hear God's voice, to see His work and sunrise from a different angle and appreciate His glory....then I think it's great. But if you climb mountains to brag to others, or because you enjoy the thrill of possibly losing your life that was bought and paid for in the blood of Jesus Christ, then I'd say it is not a glory to God.
I'm just simply saying, my personal opinion is to involve Jesus Christ in everything we do. Have a personal and real relationship with Him, not just in prayer, or at Church, but in everything you do. Jesus is the roommate that I've always had, the best friend, the teacher, and my personal Savior.
That's just what I believe, I don't want to say I have the answers, I'm just doing my best

I love to knit and it amazes me the complexity of something that seems so simple at first. I find it making my relationship with God deeper as he shows me the nuances of Him and the world he created. I was even able to have a knitting group at my campus ministry for awhile where people could come and learn to knit and talk about their lives and relationship with the Lord and others. I also find that in my school and work and home I can find the complexity of life humbling. Praise the Lord for He is good!

There is a ministry at a church I attended when we lived in a smallish town for a couple of years. They knitted dresses and blankets and other items for safe house for children in a developing country. It was much needed and a tremendous blessing to the children...it was also a wonderful time of sharing and communion for the women ar the church.

My hobby is reading ever since the beginning of last year i would read litterally from 8 in the morning to 3 at night, including school and eating in between.
This happened till July last year when i found the Lord Jesus Christ and started seeking a relationship eith Him, i stopped having the desire to read compleatly
Until January this year where i started reading and its not like the things i read were bad, i just found it so hard to put it down and spend time with Father and our relationship now is not as strong as it used to and till now iv been desperatly trying to get it back to the way it was because it hurts.
I Love God and i just really cant continue on like this, i think its actually time let go of reading. Its not going to be easy AT ALL but im doing this for HIM ... Well me because u cant let Him Go not now not ever.
I promised id never let go of HIS HAND
that was the only promise I ever made to Him i cant break it
I said that nothing could ever tear us apart.

I'm a history buff to the extreme, especially concerning Biblical history. I would love to make a career of it, teaching the history within the Scriptures. Though most times it becomes an idol. Crazy to think something like that can become an idol, lol. However, when I'd study Kings and Chronicles (a truly agonizing, yet enriching experience), I'd find myself amazed at it all. Through the pain of understanding the complex chronologies, I gave thanks to God because I needed His help even to just figure out the date of when a king reigned (an entire complexity in itself). I know that what I love to do can glorify God, and even edify His people. Yet it can also become an offense to Him when we make it about ourselves.

@@simonecher1353 I think there is nothing wrong with sowing, it is in fact, a skill.
As long as you are not sowing clothes so that you can better expose your body in a sexual way or anything bad. Sowing would be totally okay.
My grandma sows, and used to be a professional sower in russia. And my grandma is a Pentecostal Christian(very strict) and goes to church 4 times a week. Regardless of that, her sowing skills has blessed my family many times over! She even knitted her kids clothes, taught my mother how to knit/sow and she made me and my sister clothes later on! And my grandma recently sowed me a blanket since i am tall and need a longer blanket to be comfortable. That hobby/profession blessed us.
So, hobbies can actually be a way for god to bless others!
Think about it: How many times has music, poetry, writing, and art blessed others?
Think of your sowing that way!
How could i bless others later? God made you the way that you are and put in interests into you for a reason! Focus on the good interests and desires. God calls us to think about everything good, pure and admirable!
Also ask: Does your hobby take you away from god, by taking up your time or by changing your desires to a wordly mindset.
If not, and instead, it provides you a time of peace and does not make you stray away from gods will, it is totally okay. But if it is a hobby where it is purely done for yourself then limit the time to a healthy manner.

Hobbies are part of a healthy balanced lifestyle. I literally burned out 2 and half years ago and I developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. My whole life turned into living nightmare. I am still on the uphill of my recovery. I used to think hobbies were a waste of time and money, because I could have been doing something "productive" or "holy." I know have a totally different perspective. Hobbies are essential for healthy lifestyle. Our minds and bodies need some pleasure and fun. It's healthy for us! And we can still be zealous for Christ and His Kingdom. There's a Christian book called "Zeal without Burnout" that talks about this problem. I highly recommend it! Americans are some the busiest, hardest working, stressed out people on the planet. Christians are humans that need close friends, hobbies, sleep, fun, rest, and food. Without these things, we will eventually burnout; either in a Chronic Illness, or a mental/emotional burnout. We are not God.

It's a great way to look at the matter: if you can't glorify God with it, don't do it.
If it's hard to glorify God with it, you probably should replace it (the harder it is, the more likely).
And if you can but you're not: examine it! What should you do, then?
Always seek to be thankful to Him for what He's given us, and to not place the gift before the Giver.
And, indeed, if it is something that you can involve others with, to enjoy time with them and to be 'salt and light' in their lives as well, all the better.
I've a long way to go, but Jesus is faithful.
And one more note: 'holiness == happiness.'
Don't try to 'cheat' your way to happiness, thinking that you can do better by going outside of God's will - you're not smarter than omniscience, and you didn't 'get something' that He missed. It's kinda silly, when you think about it, how often we think our own way is better!
He loves us enough to die for us: should that not then act as a powerful reminder that His commands are for our good?

I am collegiate baseball player and I often struggle with having discernment regarding God in/and sports. The nature of sports is to perform and to win of course. But should I be willing to do anything and everything to do so? What should my ultimate goal and focus be? Should I be thinking I must win at all cost? Or should all be secondary to tend to the heart and souls of my guys and be a light for Christ through serving and connecting? It is something that I think about often as I have increased my playing time. When you’re on the bench and not playing as much, you are able to connect more frequently with your teammates. But when you’re on the field, you’re the guy. You have to focus and you don’t have the same opportunities to connect as deeply or as frequently with your teammates. I feel as though I neglect the hearts and souls of my teammates when I’m starting because all I want to do is serve and connect with them.
This season I’ve tried to focus more and have that increased competitive edge. Not to where I think it is sinful, but definitely to a point where those who are close to me notice a difference in how I carry myself. If I am being honest, it’s not something I have meditated and prayed on. But it really can be hard in the context of sports to desire so badly to win but also being careful (as a follower of Christ) to do all things on the field that are honoring to Christ.
How can I approach the last month of my season through the utmost honoring of God but having a healthy competitive edge above opposing teams?

Anyway, I ended up turning this hobby into a business by coaching other cyclists. I felt it was a calling, but there were some doubts. So, I talk to my athletes 1x1 a lot about all kinds of things. Well, it's been just 2 years, but one of my athletes has been struggling... Since the trust was already there, I got him some help through my church. He's now starting to talk about Jesus... I can see where he's going and it's so exciting! I feel like this "hobby" of mine brings glory to God, it makes me tear up and am so thankful. To think that it's helping to lead someone to Christ, wow.

I write poetry as a hobby. Btw, the "Baby" here is a metaphor for the rebirth of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
    Make Way for Baby!
    He's been waiting patiently
    for many months so long.
He's been nesting nice and cozy
in His womb and growing strong.
    And now He has decided
    to come tearing out--
    through cramping muscles,
    burning flesh,
    and spines that splinter into!
    He'll leave us shaking, trembling
'fore His glorious task is through!
    But I wonder if He'll be upset…
    or angry at a few
    of His well-intentioned relatives
    for whom
    He's overdue.
    For some haven't been prepared
    to make an offering,
to welcome Him into this world
    for all His suffering.
    Some haven't been excited
    about His soon arrival…
    instead we've wondered if
    He'll inconvenience our survival.
    “Will this Baby hurt us…?
    Will He demand too much…?
    Time and money spent
toward all His needs and such…?”
    “Will Baby make us miserable
    living on the
    straight and narrow…?”
    Well, misery does love company
    with every fallen sparrow--
into crime and rape and vicious lies
that lead us to the hearse.
I think it's safe to say,
    without Him,
    we've done worse.
    I bet we'll be relieved
    to see what joy
    Baby brings…
    see Him forgive
    our sins,
    our stains,
    and all our shortcomings.
We'll see Him comfort and love us
    despite the way we are…
    if we repent
    He'll wipe our eyes
from wrongs made near and far.
And now at last - He's coming!
I feel my sides seize up!
But for all my crippling pain
I cannot drink from this, His cup.
    Can't others feel this pressure
    in all surrounding areas?
    Surely, I'm not the only
    sainted mother
    in hysteria.
    So soon, sweet rapture,
    we'll see His face--
all else will melt behind Him.
All fear and doubt and agonies,
    His touch
    will bless and bind them.
    This Baby offers love,
it's what He comes to share…
    along with peace eternally--
if our own cross, we bear.

Paul only mentions enjoying creation to the glory of God one time in the new testament, and even then, he says that in this time you should focus on other's needs rather than, and above your own. The rest of the new testament is about sacrificing and surrendering our lives to Christ, devoting ourselves fully to the Lord's work and to other people - even if that causes us suffering and pain.
The truest joy does not come from 'enjoying God's creation', the truest joy is living in surrender to Christ and seeing Him touch countless lives around you. It's the purest, deepest, most beautiful joy that no hobby or pleasure could ever offer you.

I am a passionate piano player but often times I feel that I am by the fact that I am unable to afford a good instrument that would help me work out precise techniques. Then I start to question if I am being held back by something, or so and start to doubt my abilities. However I once heard Michelle McKinney Hammond talk about what charactarises the god given talent in us individually, which would be true about my musical ability. As a result I started doubting my own abilities in light of the given situation. I prayed a lot about this issue, non the less this is not yet resolved. God is putting me to a test. However my fears and insecurities never vanished and having heard this helps me greatly understand the circumstances of my situation. Thank you and god bless!

If I have someone over, usually they are a talking point since they look really realistic and almost like little people. If I lost them in a fire, I wouldn't feel tragic. They do increase in value of the years as they become more rare or in demand, if the right price is offered I would sell them and use that money to invest in something more practical or useful like a house or something... anyway I think I've questioned myself whether or not my hobby is God glorifying... which I don't know. I look at them with amazement but I always reflect on how much greater God is for creating us and every detail in existence.

The angles of the body, the engine design, all of it is reflection of His glory and wisdom. 2. It is refreshing me because I feel so happy when I see these cars and drive them. They are exciting and relaxing. 3. I am involving others by drawing many people to start a conversation about the cars which I turn around to give thanks to God for and ask if they know Jesus. Yet, i can’t help but feel these three questions are insufficient but Im glad Piper said it’s not about the money or time spent.

My hobbies very much can glorify God, especially if they involve others as well. They can be a way to reach the lost and make connections that would otherwise be difficult at best. However there is a danger too. If they include things are exciting, then they can become too important. And you can become out of balance rather quickly. I have been riding dirt bikes since I was a kid, at one point I had to set them aside because I was out of balance. You can not assume that it is ok to continue to do if it leads you away from your relationship with God. I suppose that could be true of many things but there are some hobbies that are more dangerous because of the adrenaline that fuels the activity.

Grace and peace from the Lord Jesus Christ and from God our Father. My testimony: I believe in Jesus Christ. The reason I believe in Jesus is because I heard God's message about Him, preached from an authorized King James Version (KJV) book of His Word and His words. After hearing the message, I believed it. God has faith His blood is propitiation for my lifetime of sin, and I too believe His shed blood pays for my sins and the sins of the world. After believing, I turned back to God. That's what it means to repent. And after turning back to God, I put my full trust and faith in Jesus and in what He did. I am fully persuaded, just like Abraham, that God, who cannot lie, will do everything just as He has promised. I declared and do declare His righteousness, and He imputed it on me, a believer in Jesus!
My testimony includes what justifies me to stand before God. It matches Romans 3:24-26.
Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
    Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
    Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
    Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Now hear Romans 1:18-3:20 and you have heard the full clear gospel. You can make a choice.
