Thank you so much for the awesome video! I also worked for fish processing plants for 5 years, and I completely understand everything you said. It is very hard work, and sometimes bullies do come along and make you feel less. Over the years I worked really hard and thought about where could my skills grow in the fishing industry. I'm very proud of myself, I now have a state job with the state of Alaska, and those people who looked down on me saw me again, but this time in my Alaska fish state uniform, and I hope they learned a lesson that it's not nice to look down on people because someday that regular processor could move up the higher ladder, and I definitely did :) Never give up, and knowledge of working in the processing plants is not a waste of time. It will give you great benefits in the future not just free housing, laundry, and food.
I'm getting ready to go too this summer. Your videos have been a big help and inspiration for me. I'm going to up there to work to get the money I need to set my life back in order. I think the time away and all the work is going to do me wonders and give me back on the right track. Then after that I'm moving not sure where to but I'm moving. I'm taking my life back.

Question 1 when you're processing fish on the boat, standing for 12 to 16 hours a day was it really that wet and cold? Question 2 can you keep your own diet when eating the prepared foods? Question 3 do you get breaks in between your shifts? Question 4 I'm someone that's considering getting away from my norm, so how do I apply for the land processing plant over the ship? Question 5 is my last inquiry, how much did you make overall within your single season working?
Why am I not surprised that all the idiots in the comments giving you shit/ignoring the cons are all men🙄 These types see no issue treating women like garbage until it's their own kin, then all of a sudden they're overprotective and its no longer fun and games :/ On a related note, I wanted to say thank you for your honesty about the cons! As a women who works in construction I was doing research after receiving an opportunity to work for E&E and since i've always wanted to go to alaska, I was thinking about taking it, but now I feel comfortable turning it down. I was looking for an escape from harassment and mentally ill druggies, not more of the same with less pay and less time off!

I want to take the time to say thank you for this video; you were definitely the inspiration for me to make this venture to Alaska back in 2020. Got a chance to see you in person by chance. You were evermore the professional. Here I am, at the start of 2022 and I am still working in Alaska in fish processing; out in Dutch Harbor. Will be 11 months straight come May that I would been working here. It has honestly changed my life for the better. Of course this lifestyle isn't for everyone and believe me this is a lifestyle. But it has made me a better person in the long run and has given me great financial freedom that I have longed for. Being a guy out in the world with no one but myself to support, this was the perfect choice for me. It does take a little adjustment, and you are right the substance abuse is a thing, even I fell pray to it at the beginning; but was able to course correct and keep my head in the game. Even managed to get my forklift license last year to make myself more valuable. I can see myself putting at least another three or four more years here. I enjoy the work and enjoy my environment very much. So I guess my only question now is, what's next for you?

@Lil Poetboy I’m reading through comments and came across yours.. had a couple questions for you of you don’t mind. When you had your first season out was it on a vessel? If so, I’m sure at some point the culture shock of it all had to have messed with your mind a little bit?? Asking because I have a 19 year old son who is on a vessel now in Kodiak and I have been able to talk to him a few times, and I have noticed that the last couple of times he has seemed a little in a funk, (he’s only been working close to about 4 weeks) … assuming this feeling is normal, he has mentioned wanting to leave! I feel like he’s burnt out and going a bit stir crazy! I know that this work is tough ( me watching videos is how I know this lol) my kid is a pretty tough kid! And has worked jobs with long hours before, but never has he worked on a ship, and in such tight living space with nowhere to go or see. What advice would you give to young men and women wanting to give this job a try?? Maybe the next time I hear from my son I can try and boost up his spirits!! I see the job listings state that you will be working for 16 ish hours 7 days a week for 45 days and all the overtime you could want but how does the overtime work? Do you just skip sleeping? Do they give you a chance to recover for a bit or just tell you to tough it out? I wouldn’t mind I’ve heard from a friend of mine that anyone can make from $10,000 in a month and a half to 20k nowadays.

Good video. I commercially gillnetted sockeye salmon in Bristol Bay for about 12 yrs in the Summer. Only had to be up there for about two and a half months. Thank God. Piece of advice for people going up...try and get on a fishing boat.
@@redlilly4016 Pretty much what it sounds like. We simply gillnetted the sockeye salmon. Delivered them to tenders that would come out onto the fishing ground and they in turn would deliver to big processors that gutted the salmon, fileted them and froze the product. Think of it as working on a floating assembly line. Much nicer and more lucrative to catch the fish and let somebody else do the dirty work.
@@cschoen100 Yes, I see that does make sense.. I’m still trying to learn the lingo. I have a son that went into the fish processing side of it. From the looks of it (my research), it seems as the job is pretty tough, as you say they do the dirty work! @@redlilly4016 It can tough to get on a fishing boat. Usually the crews are all set but sometimes crewmen will leave for whatever reason. If your son is based out of a port, try and have him work the docks and get his name out there as someone who would like to fish.
Thanks Harmony, I'm considering this occupation to recover from the post-pandemic-economic fallout. I was an essential worker(healthcare) in Seattle, 2018-2021, but experienced emotional & physical burnout during the social discord(pandemic, racial & political tension) - losing everything I had built. I couldn't get out of bed. I've since moved home to Louisiana for a hiatus and am feeling able-bodied again. I'm hoping this will pull me out of debt and stengthen my confidence. I felt like a failure after Seattle.

Taking my drug test in a couple days for my first trip, I'm in it for the money and checking out Alaska. A lot of the jobs really don't pay much but the vessel I'm going on pays for my hours and I get a percentage of the catch so I figure it should be a lot of money for a couple of months. If I can make close to 10gs or more in a couple of months that's a win for me. We shall see, I'm trying to come back to Cleveland loaded 💵💵
Great video. Looking into doing this in the near future. Im very strong and fit at 59 years of age. Have worked physical jobs my entire life. This ship i applied to work indicated the positions are highly physical and work is 16 hour shifts. Im curious if you worked in a similar setting. I must say the drug business surprises me. I would think they would have that under control, in regards to safety and employee insurance reasons.
People go up there probably 1. To try something new, 2. To make a lump sum of money, of course u have to put in the hrs but it’s what their there for. Well at least that’s how I’m gonna look at it if I go up there. I wanna go there to make that extra couple g’s a month then what I normally make.
I worked in the fish processing industry 10 years started in 2000. It is a lifestyle you will never understand till you do it. I would not go farther West than Kodiak theses days but started in Dutch and Akutan. When I was explaining it to the people coming up to work on my crews for 3 to 4 months I explained the conditions like this. Imagine an out house porta potty that is your life 143 sq’ is your personal space and nothing more you will live with 3 other people in your room you will have communal everything showers sleeping quarters eating laundry. But one thing you need to understand deeply. The only Rule in Alaska is “There are no Rules” Cold Wet Lonely Dark Dirty Dangerous and NEVER ends… You WILL work 14- hours 7 days a week!!! Maybe summer salmon might have a reduced work schedule you will work or you will go home.

I'm a BSc engineer from Bangladesh and I applied for Packer position at Coastal Alaska Seafoods, now 1 .The question is will I have to work in the vessel or in just the factory? 2. is there any chance to ignore their housing facility because I want to stay in a room alone. my job responsibilities are below , 1) Clean, debone, and trim seafood fillets. 2) Clean and remove raw materials in the work area. 3) Separate product on conveyor belt or table by size, color, grade of raw material. 4) Transfer raw seafood product to other conveyor belts. 5) Place seafood products in containers or other containers. 6) Discard foreign objects and incomplete or defective raw material items. 7) Pack product in boxes, barrels, cans, or crates for storage or shipment. 8) Sort and label seafood. 9) Move live or packaged seafood from place to place. 10) Inspect own work area to ensure cleanliness and safety.

I was wondering what company’s don’t drug test or don’t care about weed because I quit smoking, but I’m sure there are still traces of thc to make the test positive. I just had an interview with American Seafoods and was told the coast guard does the drug test. I was told that if I get tested and I’m positive, I will be kicked off the ship. I was wondering what company you worked for because I figure if they don’t care about substance abuse, they won’t care about weed if I don’t have access to it.

Wishing you a most happy and productive new year . Sexual harassment seems endemic in workplaces everywhere. But I suspect it is even more stressful when you know the people who harass are sleeping down the hallway. A solution may be to send signals early that you are in a committed relationship and maybe even have a ring handy to prove the point . How effective this will be is any one’s guess , but management must be made aware so that they can issue the necessary warnings . I assume that management is not involved in the activity. Great advice overall to someone who may be contemplating a season to gain experience .
The sexual harassment i experienced in fish processing was different than anywhere else I experienced it, probably because it is primarily men in the industry. Glad u found the video useful.

If not, thats cool, but, if you are, I would love to hear from you
This type of job is not meant for everybody. A lot of people get injuries, they treat you like crap and you will have to share the room with 4 more people. Most of the people here look like they just got out of jail. The pay is a joke compared of what you do in there. There are other places where you can get seasonal jobs and get paid almost the same amount of what you do in here working 16hrs a day. People get sick and if you look young and are not a woman they will put you in tough positions, they can put you in a freezer -60 for 16 hrs pushing carts. You are suppose to get raining gear when you work there due to weather conditions, you are always working in wet conditions and water will still get you wet ,plus low temperatures, you can get sick easily. You are basically a slave and a robot to them. If you get injured, they will have another load of sheep ready to replace you. By the time I was there, 5 people got injured, a guy broke his finger, another one got fungus in his hands, one injuried his back and his toes turned purple for weeks. If you don’t care about your health and want to give it a try go for it. But remember if you quit before the season ends you will have to pay for your ticket back home. All this was in Silver Bay Sea Foods.

To answer your question, it is totally dependent on the amount of fish that is delivered to the plant (if you choose to work at a land plant), there will be times when you are working for months straight, and then there will be times when you work maybe only 3 or 4 days a week

@@baylorbrooks600 hey Baylor, Aloha, so, i work at a land based cannery,s o, not to sure how it works to get on a boat, but, i know alot of people sometimes just go down to the docks and ask around, but, if you want to work at a land based plant, just fill out a application to all of them, im sure someone will hire you, this will be my 9th y ear with the same company (copper river seafoods) so, i dont know to much about the other ones, i did work at UNISEA in Dutch Harbor, but shoot brah, fill out a application with us, couldnt hurt

Yes in most cases from what Ive heard if you quit before completing your contract you will have to pay for housing, and you definitely will have to pay for your flight back. Could be expensive depending where you’re located.
Everyone needs Jesus (In reference to your end remarks on why people are up there doing this job...) That's my opinion. I have Jesus and still want to go up there though! I got hired by Peter Pan when I was in Anchorage in 2018, but bailed out because the work wouldn't start for another month. I couldn't wait so I went back to the 48 to drive a semi truck again which btw I quit. Driving makes me sleepy. P.S. you remind me of myself.

I worked in Mississippi. Little money and if the day they replace everyone with a machine that costs only 15 k a year ??? They will burn the machines out in 6 months by asking to much That's the fish plants!
Want so good advice lol take a I pad loaded with books and music everything you need to live for 8 months if it’s not on there you won’t have it good buds, 20 pairs of wool socks 15 pairs of under ware one pair of jeans one shirt to get you on board and the day you leave 5 heavy duty hoodies 5 pairs of sweat pants tooth brush tooth paste q tips. Buy 2- sets of extreme long John’s that’s it… most people pack like they are going on a cruise. (And a towel) jeans and shirts belts and shit you WILL not use you live in sweats a hoodie sweat shirt rain gear and Xtra Tuff boots you will work 18 hour days out on sweats and a hoodie every day put on the same rain gear and boots everyday and work 16 hours to 20 hours most times you will sleep where you sit and not even go to your rack to sleep. Most people take 10x too much shit…
@@KC1986JR I doubt they have a gym on board you work 16 to 18 hours a day last thing you going to want to do is stay up and lift weights. And if your in high Seas how are you going to be benching 200 to 300 pounds??? You will eat and work eat and work eat and work take a 3 or 4 hour nap then go back to work. Depends where you live and your bills at home. If you have a car and house payment definitely don’t do this. It’s like being in prison but the pay is better. U can go weeks without a pay check.

Anyone have an opinion on the company North Star? Could you go and just do 1 contract or is there pressure to do numerous? What's the general time between contracts? And do you have to wait til the end of contract to get paid?

When you worked on the vessel did you have to get the covid vaccine and if so did you have any side effects? I'm in the process of getting on one and they're asking me to get it .
I think cigarettes are like $8 a pack and they usually sell them on site from my experience. Otherwise you generally should be able to go to a nearby store yes, at least every once in a while

@@godxpain6667 hey God, thanks for watching her Videos and showing interest in the Industry, this will be my 8th year in the Industry, and to help her answer your question, all of the processing companies up here have there good and bad qualities about them, some of them make you pay a bunkhouse fee (which you will get back at the end of the season if you complete the season in good standing, and some of them will not), so, check around with each company and see what their policy is when it comes to that. if you have any other questions, be sure to watch all of her videos, im sure she will answer them for you, but, if not, you can always ask me and ill be glad to answer them or you and, to answer your second question, it is all dependent on the amount of fish that is delivered, some times you could be working for weeks on end and other times maybe only 3 or 4 days a week, it really just depends on the amount of fish

Hey Cassandra, I was surfing YT and came across her videos, if i can help her answer your question, This will be my 9th year in the Seafood Industry, and well, I wouldn't say there is a "best" fish cannery to work at, all of them have there good sides and their bad sides, but, if you are new to the industry, maybe a Herring season would be best to see if you like the Industry and its something you want to do, Herring seasons are very very short, maybe 2 weeks at the most, but, you can work a steady 16 hours or more a day for the whole time you are there (Herring season usually runs from about the end of April to the beginning middle part of May)

Generally no although I think there is usually a very low internet service on a lot of the big boats that will allow for the use of a single messaging app like WhatsApp.
Would you say fish processing is better than working fast food or at retail stores? I know you make way more money doing fish processing but if your desperate to get out of working customer service forever is fish processing a good jump to get out of these types of jobs? I’m at my breaking point dealing with customers. Lol.

I was at Ocean Beauty and left 3 days later which they dropped me off the dock and find my way back. I met this one guy that didn’t want to work anymore because of both his waist sprained from lifting 50 - 70 lbs frozen salmon and they continue to force him to work so he threw in the towel to save his hands that were rapped and jumped on a plane.
Do you know if there is a company that hires very short season like 5 to 6 weeks? During summer?, some of the companies that i contact are UNISEA and SILVER BAY, what company of all do you recomend? Thanks
Hey Richard, thanks for watching her videos and showing interest in the Industry, this will be my 8th year in the Industry, to answer your question, yes, during the Herring season up here (which is roughly from the last week of Apirl to maybe the second or third week of May, you can work a short season, and, its really a good way to know if you like the industry or not, its a very short season, but you will be working a minimum of 14 to 16 hours a day the whole time you are there
On 7:39 I have to disagree with you because, My long life dream is to work on a boat, To always be at sea. Not everyone that does fish processing has problems. If i can combine my hobbies such as fishing and work?! thats what it would be. It all comes down to.. If your after the money or the experience.

I'm very proud of myself, I now have a state job with the state of Alaska, and those people who looked down on me saw me again, but this time in my Alaska fish state uniform, and I hope they learned a lesson that it's not nice to look down on people because someday that regular processor could move up the higher ladder, and I definitely did :) Never give up, and knowledge of working in the processing plants is not a waste of time. It will give you great benefits in the future not just free housing, laundry, and food.
I'm getting ready to go too this summer. Your videos have been a big help and inspiration for me. I'm going to up there to work to get the money I need to set my life back in order. I think the time away and all the work is going to do me wonders and give me back on the right track. Then after that I'm moving not sure where to but I'm moving. I'm taking my life back.

As a women who works in construction I was doing research after receiving an opportunity to work for E&E and since i've always wanted to go to alaska, I was thinking about taking it, but now I feel comfortable turning it down. I was looking for an escape from harassment and mentally ill druggies, not more of the same with less pay and less time off!

I want to take the time to say thank you for this video; you were definitely the inspiration for me to make this venture to Alaska back in 2020. Got a chance to see you in person by chance. You were evermore the professional.
Here I am, at the start of 2022 and I am still working in Alaska in fish processing; out in Dutch Harbor. Will be 11 months straight come May that I would been working here. It has honestly changed my life for the better. Of course this lifestyle isn't for everyone and believe me this is a lifestyle. But it has made me a better person in the long run and has given me great financial freedom that I have longed for. Being a guy out in the world with no one but myself to support, this was the perfect choice for me. It does take a little adjustment, and you are right the substance abuse is a thing, even I fell pray to it at the beginning; but was able to course correct and keep my head in the game. Even managed to get my forklift license last year to make myself more valuable. I can see myself putting at least another three or four more years here. I enjoy the work and enjoy my environment very much.
So I guess my only question now is, what's next for you?

When you had your first season out was it on a vessel? If so, I’m sure at some point the culture shock of it all had to have messed with your mind a little bit??
Asking because I have a 19 year old son who is on a vessel now in Kodiak and I have been able to talk to him a few times, and I have noticed that the last couple of times he has seemed a little in a funk, (he’s only been working close to about 4 weeks) … assuming this feeling is normal, he has mentioned wanting to leave! I feel like he’s burnt out and going a bit stir crazy!
I know that this work is tough ( me watching videos is how I know this lol) my kid is a pretty tough kid! And has worked jobs with long hours before, but never has he worked on a ship, and in such tight living space with nowhere to go or see.
What advice would you give to young men and women wanting to give this job a try?? Maybe the next time I hear from my son I can try and boost up his spirits!! So that he can at least stay the contract !

I see the job listings state that you will be working for 16 ish hours 7 days a week for 45 days and all the overtime you could want but how does the overtime work? Do you just skip sleeping? Do they give you a chance to recover for a bit or just tell you to tough it out? I wouldn’t mind I’ve heard from a friend of mine that anyone can make from $10,000 in a month and a half to 20k nowadays.

Good video. I commercially gillnetted sockeye salmon in Bristol Bay for about 12 yrs in the Summer. Only had to be up there for about two and a half months. Thank God. Piece of advice for people going up...try and get on a fishing boat.
What is the difference between a fishing boat and a fish processing boat?
@@redlilly4016 Pretty much what it sounds like. We simply gillnetted the sockeye salmon. Delivered them to tenders that would come out onto the fishing ground and they in turn would deliver to big processors that gutted the salmon, fileted them and froze the product. Think of it as working on a floating assembly line. Much nicer and more lucrative to catch the fish and let somebody else do the dirty work.
@@cschoen100 Yes, I see that does make sense.. I’m still trying to learn the lingo. I have a son that went into the fish processing side of it. From the looks of it (my research), it seems as the job is pretty tough, as you say they do the dirty work! I’ll have to run this info by him as well, so that maybe he will consider all the different job positions.

@@redlilly4016 It can tough to get on a fishing boat. Usually the crews are all set but sometimes crewmen will leave for whatever reason. If your son is based out of a port, try and have him work the docks and get his name out there as someone who would like to fish.

I was an essential worker(healthcare) in Seattle, 2018-2021, but experienced emotional & physical burnout during the social discord(pandemic, racial & political tension) - losing everything I had built. I couldn't get out of bed. I've since moved home to Louisiana for a hiatus and am feeling able-bodied again. I'm hoping this will pull me out of debt and stengthen my confidence. I felt like a failure after Seattle.

Taking my drug test in a couple days for my first trip, I'm in it for the money and checking out Alaska. A lot of the jobs really don't pay much but the vessel I'm going on pays for my hours and I get a percentage of the catch so I figure it should be a lot of money for a couple of months. If I can make close to 10gs or more in a couple of months that's a win for me. We shall see, I'm trying to come back to Cleveland loaded 💵💵

Great video. Looking into doing this in the near future. Im very strong and fit at 59 years of age. Have worked physical jobs my entire life. This ship i applied to work indicated the positions are highly physical and work is 16 hour shifts. Im curious if you worked in a similar setting. I must say the drug business surprises me. I would think they would have that under control, in regards to safety and employee insurance reasons.
People go up there probably 1. To try something new, 2. To make a lump sum of money, of course u have to put in the hrs but it’s what their there for. Well at least that’s how I’m gonna look at it if I go up there. I wanna go there to make that extra couple g’s a month then what I normally make.

I worked in the fish processing industry 10 years started in 2000. It is a lifestyle you will never understand till you do it. I would not go farther West than Kodiak theses days but started in Dutch and Akutan. When I was explaining it to the people coming up to work on my crews for 3 to 4 months I explained the conditions like this. Imagine an out house porta potty that is your life 143 sq’ is your personal space and nothing more you will live with 3 other people in your room you will have communal everything showers sleeping quarters eating laundry. But one thing you need to understand deeply.
The only Rule in Alaska is “There are no Rules”
Cold Wet Lonely Dark Dirty Dangerous and NEVER ends…
You WILL work 14- hours 7 days a week!!!
Maybe summer salmon might have a reduced work schedule you will work or you will go home.

I was wondering what company’s don’t drug test or don’t care about weed because I quit smoking, but I’m sure there are still traces of thc to make the test positive. I just had an interview with American Seafoods and was told the coast guard does the drug test. I was told that if I get tested and I’m positive, I will be kicked off the ship. I was wondering what company you worked for because I figure if they don’t care about substance abuse, they won’t care about weed if I don’t have access to it.

Wishing you a most happy and productive new year . Sexual harassment seems endemic in workplaces everywhere. But I suspect it is even more stressful when you know the people who harass are sleeping down the hallway. A solution may be to send signals early that you are in a committed relationship and maybe even have a ring handy to prove the point . How effective this will be is any one’s guess , but management must be made aware so that they can issue the necessary warnings . I assume that management is not involved in the activity. Great advice overall to someone who may be contemplating a season to gain experience .
The sexual harassment i experienced in fish processing was different than anywhere else I experienced it, probably because it is primarily men in the industry. Glad u found the video useful.

Hey Harmony, How are you, Thank you so much for sharing this video and your experience in the Seafood Industry here in Alaska, this is VERY VERY random, but, would you ever consider doing it again, The company I work for is a very good one, This coming summer will be my 9th year with them. If not, thats cool, but, if you are, I would love to hear from you
This type of job is not meant for everybody. A lot of people get injuries, they treat you like crap and you will have to share the room with 4 more people. Most of the people here look like they just got out of jail. The pay is a joke compared of what you do in there. There are other places where you can get seasonal jobs and get paid almost the same amount of what you do in here working 16hrs a day. People get sick and if you look young and are not a woman they will put you in tough positions, they can put you in a freezer -60 for 16 hrs pushing carts. You are suppose to get raining gear when you work there due to weather conditions, you are always working in wet conditions and water will still get you wet ,plus low temperatures, you can get sick easily. You are basically a slave and a robot to them. If you get injured, they will have another load of sheep ready to replace you. By the time I was there, 5 people got injured, a guy broke his finger, another one got fungus in his hands, one injuried his back and his toes turned purple for weeks. If you don’t care about your health and want to give it a try go for it. But remember if you quit before the season ends you will have to pay for your ticket back home. All this was in Silver Bay Sea Foods.

To answer your question, it is totally dependent on the amount of fish that is delivered to the plant (if you choose to work at a land plant), there will be times when you are working for months straight, and then there will be times when you work maybe only 3 or 4 days a week

What happens if you leave before you contract is over? Will you have to pay the housing back? Are flights expensive out of Alaska?
Yes in most cases from what Ive heard if you quit before completing your contract you will have to pay for housing, and you definitely will have to pay for your flight back. Could be expensive depending where you’re located.
Everyone needs Jesus (In reference to your end remarks on why people are up there doing this job...) That's my opinion. I have Jesus and still want to go up there though! I got hired by Peter Pan when I was in Anchorage in 2018, but bailed out because the work wouldn't start for another month. I couldn't wait so I went back to the 48 to drive a semi truck again which btw I quit. Driving makes me sleepy. P.S. you remind me of myself.

Want so good advice lol take a I pad loaded with books and music everything you need to live for 8 months if it’s not on there you won’t have it good buds, 20 pairs of wool socks 15 pairs of under ware one pair of jeans one shirt to get you on board and the day you leave 5 heavy duty hoodies 5 pairs of sweat pants tooth brush tooth paste q tips. Buy 2- sets of extreme long John’s that’s it… most people pack like they are going on a cruise. (And a towel) jeans and shirts belts and shit you WILL not use you live in sweats a hoodie sweat shirt rain gear and Xtra Tuff boots you will work 18 hour days out on sweats and a hoodie every day put on the same rain gear and boots everyday and work 16 hours to 20 hours most times you will sleep where you sit and not even go to your rack to sleep. Most people take 10x too much shit…

I think cigarettes are like $8 a pack and they usually sell them on site from my experience. Otherwise you generally should be able to go to a nearby store yes, at least every once in a while

@@godxpain6667 hey God, thanks for watching her Videos and showing interest in the Industry, this will be my 8th year in the Industry, and to help her answer your question, all of the processing companies up here have there good and bad qualities about them, some of them make you pay a bunkhouse fee (which you will get back at the end of the season if you complete the season in good standing, and some of them will not), so, check around with each company and see what their policy is when it comes to that. if you have any other questions, be sure to watch all of her videos, im sure she will answer them for you, but, if not, you can always ask me and ill be glad to answer them or you and, to answer your second question, it is all dependent on the amount of fish that is delivered, some times you could be working for weeks on end and other times maybe only 3 or 4 days a week, it really just depends on the amount of fish

Yes there are contracts for less than four months, and you will know when you apply if the job is on a vessel or on land. Hope that helps 🙏

Hey Cassandra, I was surfing YT and came across her videos, if i can help her answer your question, This will be my 9th year in the Seafood Industry, and well, I wouldn't say there is a "best" fish cannery to work at, all of them have there good sides and their bad sides, but, if you are new to the industry, maybe a Herring season would be best to see if you like the Industry and its something you want to do, Herring seasons are very very short, maybe 2 weeks at the most, but, you can work a steady 16 hours or more a day for the whole time you are there (Herring season usually runs from about the end of April to the beginning middle part of May)

Generally no although I think there is usually a very low internet service on a lot of the big boats that will allow for the use of a single messaging app like WhatsApp.
Would you say fish processing is better than working fast food or at retail stores? I know you make way more money doing fish processing but if your desperate to get out of working customer service forever is fish processing a good jump to get out of these types of jobs? I’m at my breaking point dealing with customers. Lol.

Hey Ryan, Thanks for watching her videos and showing interest in the Industry, to answer your question, yes it is, I started with my company 9 years ago as just a worker on the slime line (pulling the guts out of the fish) now, I am the Dock Foreman at the Plant that I work at, so, there is definitely room for advancement at a fish cannery also

I was at Ocean Beauty and left 3 days later which they dropped me off the dock and find my way back. I met this one guy that didn’t want to work anymore because of both his waist sprained from lifting 50 - 70 lbs frozen salmon and they continue to force him to work so he threw in the towel to save his hands that were rapped and jumped on a plane.

Hey Richard, thanks for watching her videos and showing interest in the Industry, this will be my 8th year in the Industry, to answer your question, yes, during the Herring season up here (which is roughly from the last week of Apirl to maybe the second or third week of May, you can work a short season, and, its really a good way to know if you like the industry or not, its a very short season, but you will be working a minimum of 14 to 16 hours a day the whole time you are there
